Trouble Sleeping Thread

Fearless Eyes
For the past few nights I've found myself having a harder time falling asleep, and for no reason. I'm not anxious about anything and I find myself tossing and turning for two hours eventually drifting off at around 4:00 am. Any tips on how to fall asleep quickly? I don't see any reason for me to be up and moving this late...

Its not actually supposed to put you into a state of true sleep, but I sleep like a baby and drop off listening to it when I put it on.

There's several things you can do to sleep easier and better, but if your problem is chemical in nature none of this will help you and you need a night at an actual sleep clinic.

-Exercise more in the day. Variety helps. Cardio, muscle-building, a bit of everything. If your average day doesn't include such, work it in there.

-Adjust how much you're eating at different times of the day. Big breakfast, lunch smaller, light dinner. Eat a bigger lunch too if you're burning a *TON* of calories after lunchtime though, if your sleep and food intake aren't enough your health with start deterioating.

-Set a personal cut-off time for absolutely *ALL* media. No phone, intrawebz, books, TV, music, and especially no vidja gaemz. If you can't handle having nothing to occupy your mind, do something mind-numbingly easy and repetitive. Get your brain to start shutting down.

-Good sex makes sleep easier too. No joke. It's one of the many benefits of relationships. Yes, better sex means better sleep for the most part.

If you keep having difficulty sleeping, don't neglect it. Not being able to sleep fucks up your whole life, from a medical standpoint. You can't "make up" for lost sleep either. Over the short term it's just exhaustion or whatnot, but over the longterm it damages your brain and weakens your immune system amongst other things. It's bad yo.

Watch SC4 Sophitia mirror matches, that will put you to sleep instantly.

I personally prefer third strke Chun Li mirror matches.

Anyways, here a technique you can try: since you can't go to sleep until four o'clock, make that your bedtime. Over time start going to be a little earlier in intervals until you have reached your goal bedtime.

If you're desperate enough for sleep, then talk to your doctor about taking prescription medication.
or if you want something less serious, over-the-counter Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can aid in sleeping. I know its commonly used for allergies but can help with sleep also.

Personally, reading a book with a hot cup of tea puts me to sleep instantly.

What do you find is keeping you up? There are different ways to deal with different things. I've had/have like a thousand sleep problems. I've been good for the most part, recently, after experimenting with melatonin and tryptophan. I was prescribed Ambien and amitriptyline, though. I really didn't like what the latter was doing to me (even though that shit worked like animal tranquilizer) and...I was having too much fun with Ambien...but it's really not a drug that's supposed to be used for extended periods of time and started getting less and less effective at putting me to sleep after a while.

Lie in a comfortable position and listen to music that relaxes you. Don't try to think or do anything except just focus on the music that relaxes you. Particularly, I would listen to something soft and gentle. Something with a fairly slow to moderate beat with no lyrics and singing.

Something like this on repeat usually gets me relaxed. Or classical music, jazz music, and a few others. Hope this helps.

I don't want to be critical of other's advice here, but taking melatonin is a bad idea. Like any other hormone your body produces, taking it means your body will produce less and less of it over time. Stay away from that shit. In the short term taking it once or whatever is fine, but it's better to not even try it at all. Just about anything else will be better, like severe concussions!

Well another cause of not sleeping well maybe due to sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when you try to sleep and you don't have enough oxygen intake.

Not enough of oxygen recieving is due to relaxed muscles that block the majority of the passage of air flowing into your lungs.

Also throughout the day you may easily feel very tired no matter what you do.

There are options to deal with sleep apnea but not cure it:

1st option- is a machine that forces oxygen into your lungs as you sleep through a breathing mask that you cover your nose. It's called the c-pak machine. It's expensive, you pay on a monthly or yearly basis and I think you have to do monthly maintenence like replace the filters other new parts (not cheap as well).

2nd option- is to buy nightguard from a local dentist it forces the mouth to be at normal position so that more air can reach to your lungs. Cheaper but more conventional alternative.

A possibility to cure sleep apnea is to lose weight by doing regular exercise perhaps it may cut the cloginess that blocks air flow through the passages. But there are ppl who got sleep apnea by heritiage.

I find I just lie awake with my eyes closed daydreaming and I end up doing that for hours on end sometimes. I need to be able to wake up early on Wednesday but I end up falling asleep at such late times every day. Ugh. I know it's only 11 but I felt like I was going to pass out all day but now I can't even lie down without tossing and turning and give up to watch TV. I don't know what it is but I can't stand it. When I lie down I find if I lie on my stomach my heart beats more than normal and I just can't fall asleep. I'm going to try a technique tomorrow where I fast for 12 hours from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep and I'll see if that helps adjust my sleeping schedule.

Oh, my god. How old are you? That sounds EXACTLY how it used to be for me when I was in high school (down to the lying on your stomach and your heart seeming to race more).

After it progressed to the point where I just wanted to cry because I couldn't sleep, I completely cut carbonated drinks out of my diet. I probably drink one like everyone 2 months or so now. I got really bad headaches for a while after I stopped but that may be why I can sleep a bit better now.

The working out in the morning thing may or may not help you. It used to help me but...I dunno what happened.

I also noticed that I sleep rather easily and heavily if I sleep with someone else (the only problem is that I'm a pretty wild sleeper so I tend to wake the other person and myself up a lot).

I think I know exactly what you're going through, though. I fuckin' hated when I'd lie down for hours and not fall asleep, only to have to get up and feel like a zombie.

Seriously, though, try the melatonin (or you can get a prescription for Ambien, but, like I said, that stopped working after a while for me. Still, the trippiness was fun!). It may take a couple of days for it to really start working, but I think that's why, for the most part now, I can get tired and go to sleep at night. Also, of course, once you get a sleep rhythm going, try to stick to it. I have a lot of energy and, like you said, my mind's always racing, so I tend to like to be doing stuff, but, if you feel yourself get tired at night, lie down and try to go to sleep. If you're the same way, if you wait, you honestly won't be able to get to sleep.
