Types of Scrubs

Maybe it's my disconnection from the general population in most areas, but I fail to understand this thread. The whole concept of this "Scrub" thing, which I had never heard of until I read this, seems to be the categorization of experiences or acts rather than individuals. We all get aggravated at times when we can't achieve something we want and push that aggravation onto something else, so tagging a person based on how this is expressed is baseless- for lack of a better word. As pointed out, many individuals fill multiple "scrub categories" making the point of the concept abstract.

I feel more like I read through a thread about things people don't like about what other people do, and at the end I can't help but be perplexed as to why there isn't a thread about how to react to individuals who do these things in a positive manner. Sure, that may make me sound like a bleeding-heart, but these are still people who deserve not to be titled based on things most of us have done. Everyone has done something stupid, but the past is just what has brought you here, not who you are or some dictation of what you must be in the future.

If this was all just intended to be humorous, it is either the most esoteric thing I have ever encountered, or the bitterest of jokes driven more out of spite than the intention to make a satirical or sarcastic point. In this case, add in something about people who take out the inadequacies they feel on an object because they know (or rather feel) that they are completely powerless towards their shortcomings, venting this way because it seems like the only thing they can do without causing problems for others- throw that in so I'm not left out, or anyone like me. Call it "Angry Scrub", or "Violent Scrub".

At first glance, yes it is as you say. But people online are always gonna be stuck to their beliefs like some spoiled child with their precious candy.

Imho, I wouldn't post a thread like this at first because it could be offensive. But at the same time, I'm tired of playing nicey nice sometimes. Tired of scrubs labeling me someone of whatever salty logic. And I need a thread to vent all those meanies who said hurtful things and other unrelated hurtful things not about playing a game. That's what this thread is for.

Peeps online these days, are so goddamn salty. They can't just take a loss and move on to improve. Always make excuses, always blame the person who just defeated him/her.

And as such, I can conceitedly say I'm those stubborn nice guys who does extend a hand to help since I know the pain of losing....only to have it smacked away because the saltiness the scrub has. So tell me, why shouldn't I partake in mocking those spoiled scrubs to rid of the bottled up angst like my fellow 8way brethren?

Don't get me wrong though, I love the "hold hands and let's make things better" sentiment, but you can't do that if the scrub isn't willing to. I want to be a nice guy all the time, but being a nice guy sometimes gets me "doormatted".

I'm not saying what you're saying is wrong, but no one likes their hard-earned training to be shatted on. Regardless, I'm always gonna have to bear with the saltiness(no matter bad I'm treated) with patience and unconditional kindness. And I'm pretty sure the other 8wayrunners here would do the same.

Heh, heh, heh. Hmm. The list doesn't include the "Policeman" scrub type that isn't based on legit online concerns, eg "ringouts are cheap", "NM/Natsu is cheap", "spamming the same move over and over is cheap," etc.

There's also the matchup excuse scrub -- who explains every loss as not knowing the matchup with an underplayed character (I do this sometimes, although done properly it's still blaming yourself; if I thought it was worth it, I could -learn- the matchups vs Voldo, Damp, Zwei, and Astaroth rather than explaining that I don't know the matchup well after a particularly humilating loss [and then repeatedly challenging the person in hope of figuring out some countermeasures, because that's what you -do-]) rather than because they're a scrub.

What you don't realize is the difference between a new player (or a "noob," if you want to be a virgin forever) and a scrub. A new player is bad because they just started. A scrub is bad because they make no effort to get better. Rather than try and get better, a scrub will make excuses forever. This is not limited to this community, but to basically any type of competitive community. The internet just makes it easier for these people to stay in their bubble. We aren't simply insulting players of a low skill, but players of a low skill who want to pretend they are good by convincing everyone else they are bad through extremely stupid rhetoric.

Granted, most scrubs call other players scrubs because they are idiots. This has caused the term to kind of de-value itself, but I assure you the meaning is still quite specific.

Essentially a scrub cannot be beaten, no matter how sound the loss seemed. They lost because there was lag, or because they haven't played in a while. Or because you were using a cheap character, or that they weren't using their main character. Or because you are a cheating bastard.

A lot of this confience comes from beating their friends, who most likely aren't very good at whatever game or activity we are talking about. When they run into someone who knows what they are doing and get thrashed, their self confidence and self image becomes immediately tarnished, so they start firing off excuses in order to invalidate the loss.

Scrubs are like excuses & excuses are like assholes & everyones got one. Unless your a special snowflake... Excuses don't exist. The MLG term "Play to win", if you failed "oh well, train harder & adapt".

I fall under NO scrub in that list!

The False Try-hard.
Good players who try to win at any cost and usually are versatile in mind and skill. They don't make excuses except when they blame themselves for their loss, making a silly joke of their loss, or they want a runback to try hard and win while having fun.

The True Try-hard.
These scrubs are mixed with the Scrubby Policeman, Pro Scrub, Tier Scrub, The Local Champ Scrub, CAS Scrub, The Extremely Bad Scrub, The Style-Over-Skill Scrub, The “One True String” Scrub, and perhaps many more. Mix and match the ones you usually meet, but realize they will discriminate you. These silly drones ideal rule is: play to have fun. This is subjective as fun could mean many things. They're usually petty to say such trivial things.

Examples include: if you win too much you shouldn't try hard, if you do pro tactics like spam the same move to shut down their flashiness, you're a try hard. Their logic totally makes sense because, why should you try hard to win? Competition beckons one to try hard or face defeat, yet it's dishonorable to try too hard according to them.

Can people stop answering the list with ridiculous nit-picky reductio ad absurdum? The paragraphs are quite extensive in describing what makes them a scrub, and people just pick out one phrase or sentence to bash and post stuff like, "Your list is dumb because I make CaS and you called me a scrub for it."

If you do one of the things every once in a while, of course that doesn't make you scrub. This isn't a one offense permanent branding. If you abuse the stuff mentioned in the lists, then you're a scrub. But yet there is still reductio ad absurdum going on like, "I'm the best in my town, guess that makes me a scrub."

If you're doing it humorously, that's okay. But please stop with the ridiculousness.

I would like to express my frustration towards this kind of scrub.

The Edgemaster Scrub
This kind of scrub tries to play every character in the game. Generally they tend to have most of their time used on Edgemaster/Kilik/Elysium. They will brag about how good they are at the game and how others are inferior to them because they only play one or two styles. Whenever they lose, they will blame their loss due to getting/picking a character they do not play "for real". The only way to calm down this kind of scrub is to beat their "main", but most Edgemaster scrubs will not play their main because you are not worthy of its power.

I think your "false try-hard" is actually a real try-hard which is not a type of scrubs.
Your "true try-hard" is what i would call a try-soft type of scrubs.

Yeah, just felt like doing a juxtaposition. Pardon my pretentious nature, but I need to harness the power to be a true try hard at trying hard.
