vBExperience!!!

neat idea, though, I'm also against this sort of thing generally. I understand why you're going with it. That said, is there, perhaps, someway just to get rid of the bars? There's just a lot of clutter by the profiles now, and I just don't need to see what someone's level/activity rating is. If there were some way to turn off the bars period, I'd be happy.

If there is, I'm sorry. I searched the options (albeit for all of two minutes, haha) but couldn't find any.

It really doesn't take up any more room if you're using the New Postbit Model... If you're using the Legacy Postbit Model, then yes. But I've already stated before, I will not be providing support for the Legacy Postbit Model.

How you can help 8WayRun.com

Do we get anything for working on the Wiki? Also whenever we get Wiki finished, we should add combo videos...simple ones with the commands of the combo's listed within the video.

Unfortunately... NO...

Wikis are one of the WORST things you can put on a website... They are huge database sinks and they affect performance worse than anything out there. For that reason I have put the Wiki into its on database. Both the Wiki and the Forums are on the same server, but they are on different databases. If you go to the Wiki it may feel slow and sluggish, while if you go to the Forums, they still run great. If both sections were on the same database, the Wiki would affect the speed of the forums.

I could add some scripts to calculate for it experience points from the wiki, but there are several problems with that. The calculations are done through the database; but I am continually pruning the Wiki database. As I already stated, Wikis are bad for databases, and because of this I regulary delete old revisions from the Wiki. Every edit creates a new page, and a history revision for each page. Leaving these revisions undeleted would make the database too large.

Personally, I like the new system. It should definitely promote new activity on the site. Keep up the good work, Jaxel.

One question: is there any way to examine the exact algorithm that determines our level and activity? Right now it seems like too much of a black box. Maybe I'm just a glutton for numbers.

Okay... I figure letting people know the metrics to the experience system may help promote activity in the metrics that provide more points. I am constantly changing these numbers while I figure out a good scoring method, so these points are subject to change.

Timeframe for Activity: 28 days
The person who is most active will be put at 100%, and all others will be judged against them.

Points for infractions: -100
For every infraction point you get, you will lose points. This is a permanent loss. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED (you will recieve infractions for spam and thus lose more than you gain.

Points for days online: +5
For each day from the creation of your account, you get free points.

Points for social group members: +5
For each person who joins a social group you created, you get points. If they leave the group, or become inactive, you lose the points.

Points for friends: +5
For each person who joins your friends list, you get points. If they leave your friends list, or become inactive, you lose the points.

Points for visitor messages: +5
With the new VB3.7, you can now post directly to someone's profile (think of it as a guestbook). These are PUBLIC messages and should in no way be treated as a private messaging replacement. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Points for album pictures: +20
For every picture in your album, you get points.

Points for referrals: +100
THIS IS THE LARGEST AND FASTEST POINT GAIN STAT! We want new members, and the more members we get, the better. Get people to put you as the referral for their account creation and get a massive boost in points.

Points for threads: +5
For every thread you create, you get points. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Points for tags: +1
For every tag you put on a thread, you get points. The tags generated automatically will also be awarded to you. Abuse of this system will not be tolerated.

Points for thread votes: +10
People make polls, vote in it and get some points. We're trying to promote activity here, remember?

Points for replies to own threads: +1
YOU CAN GET A LARGE NUMBER OF FREE POINTS THIS WAY. I don't want people just making reckless threads. I want people making good threads. So in that manner, for everyone who responds to your thread, you get points. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Points for thread views: +0.05
In fact, people dont even need to respond to your thread. If your thread is popular enough, you'll get points just for them reading it!

Points for sticky threads: +10
If a moderator deems that a thread you created is worthy enough to be stickied, you get some point bonuses. I would normally have made this value higher, but I feel with the Soul Arena system, it invites too much abuse.

Points for posts: +2
For every post you make, you get points. As you can see, its not worth much. We want genuine activity, not spam from people who simply want to rank up. SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Points for views on other user's attachments: +1
People sometimes post attachments. For each attachment you download, you get points.

Points for attachment views: +0.1
For each person who downloads your attachment, you get points.

IWT - vBExperience - Points For Arcade Championships: +100
Be a champion in the arcade? For each game you are #1 in, you get points! If you lose your championship, you lose the points.

Points for Post Edits: +1
Double posting is bad! If you edit your post, instead of double posting, you'll get points. If you edit your post to clean up the english and make it easier for others to read, you'll get points. You can only get these points ONCE per post; so you cant edit the same post 50 times and get 50 points.

Strange, I was on last night and was at around or above 300 pts. I don't remember which side it was. Today, I'm down two levels? Not that I'm very worried, but I am concerned that I am being viewed as a troll or spammer somewhere.

Since I put 8wayrun.com into my PSN message i've had messages from people who want to join - however were unable to. Can't understand why but hopefully they can get that fixed... didn't even know you got points for referrals etc.

I'm not one for competing on that level - and what with being careful about what i'm saying is spam or not - so I tend not to care too much; however I do feel it's a really cool idea. Haven't noticed any points go down or anything though lol - sounds like paranoia.

PM Jaxel about it - there absolutely SHOULDN'T be any reason. I know that before there was somebody on the caliburforums complaining about it but then he realized he wasn't putting in the anti-spam security code at the bottom of the page.

lol RTD is gonna take the top spot with his 5 posts and one superthread.

oh and i don't think you guys lost anything per se. we all dropped massive points...i fell like 5 levels and jaxel dropped like 20! i'm pretty sure it is just a result of him adjusting the parameters of the point system. rest assured all the points you've lost are relational to everyone else.
