Video Game soundtracks

They were all good.
Most good remixes can often be put into the "rock" and "non rock" category.
Personally, I don't like most remixes very much because you will often find techno and trance remixes off of 30 second 8 bit songs that have minute long intros filled with nonsense.

You did find good ones though. I do have to get the Shadow of the Colossus remix.
I already have Dracula Selection-Perfect Battle, and I agree that they are all awesome.

Streets of Rage 2 :) That is just awesome.

Hahaha, I have to agree here! I played this game so much. My favorite is still the battle with Mr. X music. It sounds so sophisticated, yet intense like the rest of the boss musics.

Streets of Rage 2 had a great soundtrack. The OST of Streets of Rage 2 was done by the same person who did Actraiser, also Actraiser had a truly amazing soundtrack.

MGS music is pretty much it in terms of VG music for me. Nothing tops it, imo. Here a few tunes from MGS4:

And my favorite game song/cutscene of all fucking time:
WARNING! MGS4 FINAL BATTLE/ENDING SPOILER

Might as well watch the entire cutscene for it's epic manliness, but in case you're a slapshit, fast forward straight to 6:40 for the music.

The part with the syringes made my life complete, btw. The music was at it's climax and the almighty MGS1 life bars graced the screen.

FUCKING EPIC!!! The epic scale revs to overdrive as the music starts playing and explodes as the music ends and the grand final battle begins.

Also, some of the 20th anniversary ipod tunes in MGS4 were pretty badass, such as Show Time (Start at 1:15, that's where the song starts in the MGS4 version. Imagine running around the middle east owning fools to this song. Badass!):

As you can see, I am a MGS fanatic. I'll post more tunes later. VF5R has a pretty vicious soundtrack.

Music by Harry Gregson-Williams will make the Metal Gear Solid games stand out. From Metal Gear Solid 2 onward, the series has had a movie composer, and it shows.

The Soundtrack to Metal Gear Solid does sound a lot like a summer blockbuster and it is a fresh change of pace from most video games. This kind of soundtrack is way more fitting for the game than a Japanese composer. Metal Gear Solid was definitely meant to try and have an American feel to it. I actually think that it would hurt the experience if it had a soundtrack like "Shadow of the Colossus".

While I agree, Rei, MGS1's soundtrack was also mind-blowingly amazing. Only game music that rivaled it at the time was FF7's, imo.

Also, my man Jaytech reminded me of the epicness of Xenosaga's OST. Yuki Kajiura outdid herself on XS2's and XS3's OST, and Yasunori Mitsuda's stuff in XS1 was as good as his other stuff.

If you don't listen to every single one of these, you're robbing yourself of some good gaming music.

Xenosaga 1, starting off with "Fighting KOS-MOS." Mitsuda is too good:

Xenosaga 2, starting with the 2nd best song in XS2, "Here She Comes":

Followed by the best song in XS2, "The Image Theme of Xenosaga II". This was the #1 game trailer for any video game the year this trailer was released:

Xenosaga 3 stuff, starting off with two epic songs in one trailer, "Forgotten Sanctuary" at the beginning, then "She's Coming Back," which is a rerrangement of XS2's "Here She Comes." Too many epic songs for me to rank them. Promised Pain is probably one of the best final battle songs ever. Hepatica is VERY good, too.

Maybe Tomorrow Piano Version

There are a lot more good shit from the XS series. These re just a few that came to mind.

Dunno who did the XS anime ending, but it's pretty good too, I thought:

Also, the Onimusha series' music is LEGIT. Check out Onimusha 3's intro. Probably the best video game intro ever. The music played a huge part in making it as epic as it was:

Way better than FFVII in my opinion.
That was the time when Soul Blade, Symphony of the Night, and FF Tactics came out. Xenogears did not come out much after that also.

FFVII was actually one of the less impressive soundtracks to a hyped game for me at that period.

FF7's was amazing and there is no denying that, but don't all of Square Enix's games have beautiful music?

I definitely deny that it was great. It was good, but I definitely think that the Soundtrack for FFVII was much worse than for FFVI and FFVIII.

The music in Square Enix games are good, but I tend to think that they are overrated compared to other good soundtracks.

Danny Elfman, an American movie composer who has perhaps the most distinguished style of music out of any composer I have heard.

He often worked with his good friend Tim Burton.
He did movies like
Batman (1989)
Batman Returns
Beetleguese
Spiderman 1 & 2
Nightmare Before Christmas (and also the singing voice of Jack)

and far more...

Uematsu is good, but he started loosing his touch after FFVI. FFVIII still ended up being really good, but FFVII, IX, and X seemed less impressive in comparison. I honestly forget what a lot of those songs even sounded like.
