Video Games Are Anti-Social and Addictive

hmm final fantasy vs god

what an epic battle

at least final fantasy is real

the cartridge is real the stuff happening IN the cartridge (what you are talking about) is...in fact... not real in the same manner that god is "not real" (unproven to be real).

What if people don't care if they could be outside saving a life? What if people don't care about God? What if people don't give a damn about being anti-social and all they want are their video games? If they didn't care about one of the three things that i just listed, your entire arguement just went out the window. Also, state facts not opinions when saying something is bad.

Well, just because someone thinks its okay to kill cats by blow torching their fur, cutting off their feet, and then hanging them doesn't mean its a very "good" or "nice" thing to do by the universe's general standards of right and wrong...lol. So maybe someone doesn't care about saving a life or "being good" which is more his point...but that person is just self-centered if they don't care AT ALL (don't get me wrong...nothin wrong with vg's at all as long as its not ALL you do with your life). Caring about god doesn't have much to do with his point (although I still wonder why he brought god/religion into the convo unless he's a minister of some kind or something like that). And ppl stating only facts when saying something is bad is just NOT how the world works..lol..BAD is a matter of opinion (as you even stated earlier saying "what if someone doesn't care about BLAH" without saying that person is just simply WRONG by thinking as such). My "bad" is not the same as yours or the next person. Same goes with the meaning of "good." There is not good or bad, right or wrong..just consequences to an action and the assumed sentiment behind the reaction to your action. BLAH BLAH BLAH

Technically Lobo anything concrete is > god since god can be equated to zero, and zero doesn't exist.

How is god equated to zero?? Unless you predetermined that there is no such thing as god. In which case its a non-invertable relationship of god=zero. Which honestly just means that you guys are all just stating your own opinions about religion in response to him commenting about his own beliefs relating to himself (or at least that is how I read it). Atheist, muslim, christian, jew... why do ppl see the word "god" and all of a sudden think they need to start stating their own opinions.

Then finally to the actual post (lol...) There is nothing wrong with video games unless you sit down and say "i'm not gonna play" and then you end up picking it up anyway. Then you have a problem. Your gal-pal doesn't have to find you playing a game as a life accomplishment because it shouldn't be. Its nice to have ppl say "wow! cool! you are awesome!" but it shouldn't be a problem if that "respect" you are talking about isn't given. If you play to get that respect then you are playing for the wrong reasons. I had ppl say it was cool that I was on nationally recognized basketball teams and a very good orchestra..but for every person that recognized a team name or an orchestral group there were a lot more that didn't know what the heck was being talked about. Gotta take the compliments and understand the "no-comments" but overall its whether you ENJOY playing the games or activities. And if you enjoy them then there is nothing wrong with doing them some of the time.

Seriously, you are just feeling down that you are playing more than you should be...simple as that. Play a little less..take your woman out to some place nice to eat...go for a walk to the park or go on a run..go to the gym and lift weighs or use an ab machine or something... Just go out and do something. Stories are what make life interesting, and if all you do is sit and play videogames all day...then go to work that you dislike, its no wonder you are feeling unhappy and unaccomplished.

I talked too much....lol

Addiction exists as a possibility with anything that you react positively to. If one of those things is your religion, guess what? You can be addicted to your religion. The popular, superficial sentiment is that it's good to be addicted to that, but it has most of the same elements to addiction to other addictions. If you feel you have an addiction to something, you need to admit it and find help to balance this out. A poor example of this I love to point out is that Alcoholics Anonymous trades an addiction to alcohol for an addiction to God.

If you want to get to the core of what "doing something" means, what truly happens is that you're either always doing something or never doing anything, because the whole consideration there is what actions truly have any merit. I think it's great to have a passion for something, whether it's really useful or simply esoteric entertainment. It doesn't matter whether you devote yourself to charity, defense, or yo-yo tricks, as long as it helps you feel good about your life and does not take over your life.

Finally, I'll just say that everything I've just mentioned is simply my opinion, just like anything anybody tells you about what is right or wrong is simply opinion. The only person you really have to be responsible to is yourself. Don't let it get to you when anybody tells you you're wasting time by playing video games. If you are ok with it, keep it up. If you actually do start to feel like it's not what you should be doing, well, do something else that makes you happier, then.

It doesn't really matter whether you believe in Yahweh, Allah or Ganesha. It all comes down to you having one live to live and you should do your best to make sure that you leave that life feeling somewhat fulfilled.
Do what makes you happy and as long as you're not selfish or wronging anybody else by doing it, then there's no problem.

Whether your achievements are real or insubstantial there's nobody apart from yourself that can quantify that. If you feel a little bit of pride from doing something well, no matter how small, then more power to you. 99.9999% of people will never achieve greatness or make any real difference in the world, but we'll all make our mark in some small way. Don't get too tangled up with what is and what isn't and just enjoy yourself.
If at the very end there's been no higher reason for any of it, then at least you can say you've had a good time.

Now go forth and rut like animals!

Hi my name is Robert and I am addicted to Left 4 Dead.

I work 3rd shift at a grocery store, always cautious about a zombie outbreak happening. Even making my way to the breakroom involves stealth cause of fear of a witch and I've yet to find a molotov. I run to the car to go home in fear of a last minute smoker grab or hunter pounce, lord be damned if its a Hunter on fire.

I try not to check every room at work in fear of spawning a random zombie horde. Although, I've yet to find any pipebombs OR weapons! (even tier fucking ones!). I sometimes believe my manager is a Tank in disguise, she hasn't chucked a rock or punched at car at me yet, but I feel its coming. And although I havn't been able to find any health packs I have found alot of pain killers, just in case I happen to take any damage.

Just recently, a friend of mine said he was feeling sick like he was gonna puke, I shoved him away and ran as fast as I could to the front before my foot clipped a death shelf and I got incapped. I was on the ground for hours yelling for help while my teammate just looked at me and said "What the fuck is wrong with you man?"

Oh, how can I battle this addiction!? What would PUGPUG do!? -wait, I hear a hunter....

See?

Rek's addicted to video games and look at how much of a well balanced human being he turned out.
XD

Vidya gamez 4 lyfe, y0!

Rekano is officially the guy to talk to over a Jill sandwich when zombies swarm.

But anyway from what I have heard video games like television promote heavy activation of the right side of the brain thus weakening the left which focuses on logic and concentration. At the very least they are addictive time wasters. I think over time video games will be completely accepted by society but in a way I am not too happy about that. When new media arises people always think it is corrupting and evil and then calm down and become accustom to it. In the early days advertising was considered to cause mental decay but now they have changed people so much people identify with the products they buy. Case in point is the console wars and how people identify with a console. This uproar over new media happened with Rock music, comic books, movies, t.v and Video games are just the latest thing. What annoys me is that maybe we should accept that all the media we accepted does still have negative sides and that while in most instances the people who decry them are overall ignorant about them doesn't mean the new media is perfect. Is it right that people spend years of their lives looking at advertisements? Is it right that all the visual stimulus from t.v and video games may be changing the way people previously primarily used their brain (left brain vs. right)? I think society should examine these things again and not just with video games.

Video games allow a person to feel as if they have accomplished something without doing anything. So you beat every Final Fantasy. Nobody really cares, except other people that have played Final Fantasy, and even they don't care that much.

A huge problem is that a lot of women are not gamers. Some are, sure, but a lot aren't. These women tend to have very little respect for in-game accomplishments. That's why a lot of gamer guys want to date a gamer girl - because she is more likely to give him the respect he doesn't deserve. I know it's not a big deal to my wife that I can build a business in Capitalism 2, a theme park in RollerCoaster Tycoon(though I did get her playing that one) or that I can build a city in Sim City 4. Every time I say "Look what I did" she reminds me that I did nothing, which is the truth.

But it does not feel that way when I am doing it. None of it is worth anything in the real world, but it feels like it's so important. So I waste time with them instead of hanging out with my family, doing work, or spending time with God or on ministry.

You may say, "But I play video games and I do all those other things too." I say to you, are you doing those things while playing video games? If so, then there is room for them in your life. Sadly, in my life, my wife is not interested and my son is not old enough. Work has it's 40 hours a week, so that's not an issue. The only thing left is God and ministry. The only way I can do ministry through video games is to play multiplayer games, so all single player games are out. And God wants me out there doing real things for real people. So even multiplayer games are out.

So my video game time really is wasted time. But I'm not going to give them up yet. I'm not ready. I'm still addicted. I want to accomplish fake things, because it's fun. One may say to me, "Entertainment is needed too, so video games are okay in moderation." But really, I could have just as much fun playing with my son, hanging out with my wife, talking to God, or doing ministry. So I'm thoroughly convinced that these games are not needed. But it's just like any other addiction... it'll eat away at me until I give in, or I get over it. I'm still giving in.

Face it guys. We're all sad anti-social fools. This is why we come here to post about random things and bitch because over the internet, no one can hear you scream.

And yes, this is a joke topic. Quite useless to debate about video games and what they do to people. If they become emos and/or die (WoW freaks) because of them, it's one less idiot who doesn't know how to manage their life.

why are all cosplay outfits made of that same cheap vinyl stuff that elementary school field day and county fair ribbons are made of.

i swear that seung mina suit: a, could be put in a pot and brought to a boil. b, could in a short amount of time, be taken apart into about 10000000 unconnected threads. and c, could be completely soaked, briefly shaken, and would mysteriously be dry again in a matter of seconds.

is a cotton costume too much to ask for?

geez.

video games are fun, thats pretty much it. tv is way way way more anti-social . murder, rape general death n misery on the gogglebox - no problem, same shit in video games - outrage. stupid people always blame what they dont understand for the worlds ills. i agree with the thing about feelings of acheivment for doing nothing, remember the craze for gamerpoints? would you play ranked if you couldnt level up n show strangers how awesome you are? would you want the master materia in ff7 if you coulda bought it for a few gil? well prob bad examples but you know what i mean
