Whoa, Hilde is top tier? Maxi is bottom tier?

Lol! When I read this thread's initial post I could have sworn u were DINO in disguise. Just out of curiosity who the hell are u competing against that makes u think this. I'm seriously curious (no offense).

Really?! We're really discussing Maxi vs Hilde here?? There's nothing to discuss, Maxi is god awful and Hilde is god. Someone gave the right advice earlier, if you have problems fighting Maxi it's because you don't know him. The only way to really learn him would be to play a Maxi player frequently or learn Maxi yourself so you can begin to recognize his strings and how you should counter them. For example, that 'low stun' you're talking about is probably his RC KK, a slow low sweep that causes an unbreakable stun into a flip kick and then a bruce lee style flying kick if they do the just frame. When you can recognize each stance Maxi is in, you'll see this move coming from so far away, even online, you'll be able to block the low sweep and GI the flip kick everytime. Other shitty strings of Maxi's include 44A,B where the B part of that attack can be GIed everytime, this is hard to do online but offline it's a snap. Ducking the K in Maxi's 4BBK series is probably the first step to exposing Maxi for the trash he is. If someone ever uses AA or BB on you and you block it, stop any other incoming bullshit with 3K just in case the Maxi player tries to get cute with the B+K auto GI. Certain attacks of his gives frames which means even if you block it, Maxi will beat you to the next hit. Most of these frame traps come from high moves that can be ducked and gives you a free hit on him.

As for Hilde, since she's so slow and clunky as you said, we don't have to give you advice on her lol. But I'll just warn you that all the Hilde players you must have fared against were.....well, garbage. If you weren't flying out of the ring every single round, then the Hilde player wasn't doing her job. Even in a closed arena, a good Hilde player will fuck you up.

Exactly maxi has too many holes in his offense too be a main threat no one should fear maxi. lol

I know what you're going through. Not in this specific instance, but as somebody who has been playing soul calibur for years but never tried to "learn" the game until 4 came out.

When you don't *know* the game you can only judge on how things sort of look or seem to you, and those perceptions can be way off.

Now, I still don't know *first* hand as I haven't gone back to apply any of it, but back when I played Soul Cal 2 I would have sworn up and down that Heihachi was garbage. However I've been told he was actually beastly. It's just, the people I played sure as hell didn't know how to use him and neither did I. If you're not *using* what makes a character good, or you're not exploiting the things that make a character bad when you fight against them, that can lead to some really skewed opinions.

Maxi goes both ways: for those who don't know how he works, he's a beast, and for those who do, he's pretty much a joke. The best thing Maxi has going for him is the unknown factor-- at first glance, his move set appears to be frustrating and varied. He has a good mix of H's, M's and L's, and because so many of his moves transition into his stances, it's hard to predict just about anything. As mentioned, the first step to beating Maxi is to start evading his telegraphing moves like the jumping finish on 4B ~ LO BK, because those moves usually put him at a huge disadvantage.

As for Hilde, she has absurd RO potential. In the RTD/JTO video, notice how many times RTD goes for the RO against JTO. Look at her Doom Combo, for instance, and the way it limits JTO's options. Not only that, but she's usually sitting on advantage, even on block, which makes her moves especially safe-- which essentially gives the players on the defencive no options, unless they beat Hilde's next attack to the draw with something with a low i for CH.

I had exactly the same idea when I was new to SCIV-then I saw that Hilde is raging, and Maxi is just taking his time, lol. I'm good at Maxi (I think), and I can freely say that Maxi can be useless at many points, it's very hard to be good at him (he's not the worst tier, but still...), whilst Hilde can nail you pretty hard. Maxi is fast, but he doesn't have much options so his moves are very predictable (he only has a few good lows I believe), so you should act fast with him. Yet; Hilde is slow but pretty unpredictable, and her moves are indeed devastating, and when she does combos... ouch.

I haven't had a lot of experience fighting Hilde players, but the few I did fight online managed to hand me my ass. Hilde is more of a technical character than she lets on, if well played, Hilde proves her salt in top tier. As for Maxi being bottom tier, I'm pretty sure a good reason is that once he starts his combo, it's hard for him to stop. A good portion of buttonmashing Maxis (since I've not yet seen a legit one played) just do the same somewhat predictable combos and can easily be sidestepped into a good combo/unblockable/grab. Then again this is just my opinion so I wouldn't dig too deep into it.
