I'm not saying I don't like sc2 but I wouldn't call it the best, not the worst either, but I have a few problems with it 1. just because its fast it isnt balanced 2. The bonus characters were pointless clones and liz shouldn't have been so complicated to unlock 3. why wasnt spawn on every console 4. why no playable inferno 5. Cassandra was a pointless clone with no difference to sophitia 6. raphael, ivy and xianghua were broken 7. not problem so much as a opinion but the series got better with each installment, an arcade mode with a few extra cutscenes and a game speed so fast it disguises balancing issues and makes more, rook splitter spam anyone, does not make a game better. I'm going to /v/ now, before the "scrubs" as you call them hound me into oblivion, £50 to anyone who proves me wrong. P.s sc3-4 nightmare eats sc1-2 nightmare for breakfast.

Jeez I really gotta think back. I've played competitively since SC2, we had the best in the nation descend upon Albuquerque many times, I've seen the tournament results, the gameplay. SC2 was legit man.

Bonus characters? No real point to that, since they were banned in tournament play. Each one was console specific, thus they were banned from tourney play.

I don't remember Liz being unbelievably hard to unlock. Maybe complicated, but not worth my time to complain about. Worst comes to worst, use someone else's memory card.

No Inferno? Ok, so what. Charade did a decent job at it, same thing, random clone character.

Cass was a pointless clone of Sophi? Obviously you've never played against people who know what they're doing. The sisters both had good attributes. Mick would show you the differences between both while dismantling you.

Raph, Ivy, and X were broken: Hmmm. I know that hi level Raph play was a beauty to watch, but I didn't see him taking every single tournament. Ivy was pretty dang good, that was the last game I played Ivy, and two of my friends were top Ivy players. Very good, but not broken. X..... X was boss. So many mixups, cancels, guard crushes, fast lows. She was tough to play against, but I don't remember the community banning her. I even picked her up for fun and spammed the good stuff.

Hates or anyone else with good NM sense will gladly point out everything that was better with SC2 NM.

And bust on Talim all you want, SC2 had the best version of her. I like some of her current stuff, but would love to have the old Talim back. She could easily hold her own against the cast.

I just see a lack of experience on your part. Not calling you down or anything. I'm not even some high level player, but I got to play with good players on many occasions. I'd get out there and try the tournament circuit and see how people REALLY play the game. Look up KrazyCD's Maxi, Micks Cass/Sophi, Talim JP's Talim. There was a lot of variety in that game man, the speed was just right. 3 was super fast, but when people saw all the glitches and the balance issues, there was a lot of uproar from the community.

4 is better than 3, but the speed was an adjustment. I remember firing it up, playing a few rounds, and then shutting it off because it was so slow. Eventually we all adjusted, but I'd welcome an increase in speed. Good luck man, hope you get out on the tourney scene for SC5, as in get out and travel to play people.

In many ways competitive wise I can easily see SCII being the best. The gameplay was downright beastly while the extra modes were brilliant. It definitely helps one learn to be good at a fighting game. SCII was probably the best game in the series for teaching me the controls of the characters and learning how to guard especially. Not to mention the story mode and arcade modes were both fun to play and the leveling up system and being able to buy weapons and do all the challenges in the game definitely kept me busy for a while. So there is a lot to like.

In SC III on the other hand we probably have one if not the best (glitches aside) casual SC games. SCIII beats IV because of Chronicles of the Sword (and because IV sucked in terms of solo play). It introduced the CAS system, introduced some new play styles, action commands in cut-scenes (simple mind you but I liked the concept behind it), and over all was just a lot of fun to play on a non-competitive (casual) arena.

SCIV probably wins for best graphics (minus Setsuka who looked better in III). I mean sure the game was rushed and had a shit-ton of problems but graphically it was one of the best (if you ignore the lack of layering in CAS). I mean this did have a worse CAS than III but more options and had a huge cast. The bonus/exclusive characters though sucked (for the most part) and did not fit the game and more than that it lacked the proper story that the other games had. It was also strip calibur which although I did not mind all that much I did find it annoying when I tried to create a character only to have them be fighting in their underwear moments later.

If I had to pick a best game though I would have to say that Soul Blade is probably my favorite although SCV may beat it if they meet my expectations. Soul Blade introduced characters to us, had an awesome opening, gave characters background, personality, and motivations and was just a lot of fun (nostalgia maybe) to play. SC expanded on this game but as I have mainly sony consoles I've never actually played the first SC game. SCII greatly expanded on Soul Blade though and although Soul Blade wins for nostalgia reasons SCII is in many ways the best...if they had combined the play of SCII with the casual play (chronicles of the sword and CAS) of SCIII then it would have easily been the best game. Soul Calibur V does seem to be including an edge for competitive play, casual play, and graphics whores so I think V has a high chance of becoming the best in my mind...maybe.

SC1... stupid 8WR system... I try to side step and my character just crouches instead... LAME... Damage output was too high... it was hit, hit, hit DEAD...

Sc2.. GI, GI, GI, GI, GI..... forever. Doesn't matter if your playing the computer or a good player. Buffer system was stupidly loose in that game. X was broken.

Sc3..... Unbalanced, too many BS bonus characters that NOBODY used... VC... which isn't a problem if both players mutually agree not to do it. Too many glitches. The AI blocked EVERYTHING once you got to tournament mode 5 or 6.

SC4.... SLOW AS FUCK.... Arguably even more unbalanced than sc3 with HILDE. Stupid SW characters that didn't fit in with the cast AT ALL.

That being said, I still believe that each game got better and better. Granted, all games gave their flaws, sc4's flaws aren't nearly as bad as the others.

Sc4=best for me.

I think the reason sc2 is the favorite of so many people, is because it was the most noob friendly. Most moves were safe, GI was SUPER EASY, and it was way too easy to apply pressure and do seriously high damage combos. Despite what people say, I DON'T think GB moves that give +frames for the attacker is a good idea AT ALL, if anything it should be 100% neutral.

And lastly, Sc2 high level play looked boring as fuck.. Basically what Idle said in this forum I agree with 100%.

It's close, because it was my first soulcalibur game ever, but it goes to SCIII for me, overall i enjoyed it the most due to it's first introduction to my favorite modes Character Creation and Chronicles of the Sword as well as the best story moments in SC history.

If SCIV had what SCIII had in terms of content SCIV would be the best for me, but all SCIV was, was online and good looks, but SCV is pretty much shaping up to be, SCIII, SCIV and SC:BD all put together and then some. so SCIII just barely for now, but ultimately SCV overall.

If GIs were super easy then it should be cake to GI those slow, flashing guard breaks right?

Don't bother responding to my posts. I say what I'm gonna say and I vanish for days. I very rarely read my responses these days, and depending on my mood, I MIGHT respond back. I'm done arguing over the internet. If you don't like my posts, DON'T READ THEM.

This quote made me laugh, considering he posted like 4 times in a row.

Just because you and your friends GI eachother all day doesn't mean it was easy. Bet you couldn't land more than one or 2 on a good player.

Also, trying to prove your point with a bad player playing the AI of all things isn't a good example. Who would be dumb enough to keep immediately attacking after doing a GI everytime.
