Why is it possible to pick the stage in Ranked?

There's nothing dreaming about it. Namco made a game they wanted to be competitively viable, and took the laziest way out for variable character sizes in CaS. Consistent hitboxes should be an expectation, not a dream.

Youre WAY off in another world my friend.

Ever wonder why in football they dont come out in thunder drums. In NasCar they dont have troll dicks. Every sports team you have ever watched has a UNIFORM! Might be different colors or patterns on them, but essentially they are virtually the same.

Same rules apply to esport gaming. Why would I have a uniformed maxi vs a maxi that has shoulder pads, helmet, mouth gaurd, air bag in his steering wheel and spiked cleets? It just seems like the other guy would have way to much advantage over the other!

Kinda like having a corked bat or a greased up baseball. It gives advantage to the player that shouldnt have it. Playing CaS characters in a competative environment is like having a corked bat in baseball.

Do you get it know? If you dont, Im with Idle, youre hopeless!

Discounting those who make off-sized CaS's, the difference between a CaS and a regular character should be nothing more than appearance and voice. Just because one character looks and sounds different than another doesn't mean that there's any advantage one way or another. It's certainly no corked bat or greased baseball. I really do not understand what's impractical or dreaming about that. On the grounds that you're stating, we should ban all 2P outfits, or perhaps further than that, put every single character in the same outfit.

You closed-minded fools are the hopeless ones. I'm done here as well.

again your getting selective on whats permissable in ranked and whats not. I dont think you have a clue. Im done.

bye bye dicknose

Anyway, let me flesh this out a bit more. Ranked is dumb, and will always be dumb. If you want to be competitive seek out other like minded players and/or go to tournaments. Imposing your competitive constraints to ranked scrubs will not improve your competitive experience.

TiZ, it's collision detection issues. For what ever reasons, it's not the same for CAS. For the most part these aren't the kind of issues that really make a *HUGE* impact but even with the occasional whiff or dropped combo on an all-default proportion/size CAS it's a big thing to the folks you're arguing with. A single bullshit whiff can cost a match and money, and that's something that would be extremely unfair.

To know the exact nature of what the CAS issues are and how they could be fixed, we'd need to actually have worked on the game. No one here knows exactly what the issues are caused by, they're just kind of there. Without any real knowledge of it, it's kind of a bad idea to contemplate how to fix it other than nuke the problem out of existence(banning CAS).

Maybe it's a really, really simple fix. Maybe it'd require rewriting the entire code for the game. We don't know. So what do we do? Propose something we know works and we all assume would require minimal effort(CAS ban) or nothing at all.

Oh, sure, I'd love to have CAS be tourney legal and everything too. But that's just not how it is. So we've only got the options of accepting it or...I dunno, ragequitting? I really, *REALLY* can't think of an alternative to accepting it :x

Casual is the other side of the coin that game developers have to cater to. They have to keep from making the game completely competitive.

Is there even a good fix for the hitbox problem? If they were to force the hitboxes for the fighting style's 1P, wouldn't that just lead to a different problem of hits which looks like it would hit doesn't hit, because the CAS happens to have a larger body size than the fighting style's real 1P (or random armour which looks like it would logically have a larger hitbox)?

Oh well, making a decision either way isn't gonna go much regardless. I doubt Namco is very keen on patching the game again, and I really doubt they're listening to specific requests from the community, even if those requests make a lot of sense.

.
There's more to it than that. Maxi is taller than any character model CAS allows someone to use as a foundation for example. Astaroth has similar issues.

No CAS using Maxi's move set quite works like Maxi as a result.

Ranked is a joke. After they fix the grade system then they can focus on all the arbitrary bs.
This, guys. What is the end goal of ranked? To get the steak sauce. Once you get it, what is there left to do? There are probably several hundred or more people with a 5000/5000 A1 rank, and what does it mean? Are they all the tippy-top level players? No, but if they were, is there any way to tell whether UnseenWombat has a better Natsu than Tokyo1220? Nope. For all you know from our rank, I'm just as good or better than him. And even if you look at our win percentage, it's entirely possible for scrubfags to inflate their win ratio by lag switching when they're about to lose.

The first thing to get out of the way is the terrible meaningless rank system they have and put something in place like a real elo system. Also, a way to actually punish pullers. Then we can talk about standardizing the characters you can use and the stages you can pick.

Another thing is to actually give us a true "player match" that doesn't keep track of your stats and display them for the whole world to see. I believe Tekken 6 got this right if I'm not mistaken. As it is right now, if you want a real competitive experience, you can go into a player lobby with other like-minded people and ban cas and stage selection to your heart's content. And it will even keep track of your win ratio. The only thing different about it and ranked is you can't change your silly, meaningless letter rank.

Sorry Cla for coming in here and saying "rank is a joke, don't play it," but unfortunately I have to point out the elephant in the room.

i use rank as a warm up. usually get in 3 or so games before i move on to anything else.

like what Wombat said if I feel like playing a lot of different players then I'll play rank because frankly I hate waiting for my turn to play in a room

I have a better question... Why do you even play rank?
Honestly the only reason to play is to find new blood. Fighting against Xeph or Partisan is like trying to beat Agent Smith. Finding decent players in ranked and challenging them to extended matches seems to be the way to go
