Xiba Non-Gameplay Discussion Thread

Hey Signia, do you know if Xiba managed to keep Kilik 46B? I know the move's gimmicky as all hell, but I loved throwing Maxi's off with it in the middle of their shenanigans.

Lot of moves that either integrate that step kick or goes into stance. Along with some better damage at range, Xiba is looking boss. Sure will miss asura and fotd though.

46B is my usual followup to kB as a frame trap, but it did not come out at SCR. The input could easily have been changed, though. It'd be annoying if he lost all his long range i13-i14 punishes like 46B, aB, and 6B8. We might just have to settle for K from standing and 2A from crouch.

The new 3kB looks to be a great standing mid punishing tool, though. Maybe instead of having good i13-i14 punishes he'll have good i15+ punishes.

I'd much prefer a nice clean punisher + knockdown over 15 damage and frame advantage.
I have been waiting for this for years.

Lots of Xiba play on tonight's stream! Filthie Rich's Xiba was great!

I noticed that 3AB can be cancelled into the aGI stance, probably 3A(B)

He looks so strong right now. He has a pretty fast Low out of his Stance...i dont know if there will be a good solution against this or its a pure 50/50...

Also not quite sure if this constant Stance pressure is the way to play him...but it looks pretty damn good. Also wtf at the 3 Hit Brave Edge that looks a bit like Asura...dmg ftw. i hope there is a way to quickstep or punish..

Rich was overusing the stance a bit I think, using it without a transition a lot but it looks a like a great way to continue offense. He has 3-4 mids that have string followups or can be cancelled into the stance. I especially like how BB or B(B) can be used in juggles, where the second B threatens to hit grounded but if they try to block it they may get up into a stance mixup.

It's actually not 50/50, since you can step both the B (mid) and the K (low). The A followup tracks sidestep, though. Choosing to step, guard, or crouch beats 2 of the 3 options. The mid however is safe and the high has launcher string followup which is probably unsafe but shortening the string makes it safe. Oh and everything is guaranteed on a successful aGI. You might be able to GI all three options, since the speed is similar, but the stance moves are probably delayable.

His CE is nothing like Asura, the animation is completely different. You should think of it as counter-CE like NM's. It GIs everything and is pretty fast. It does NOT do as much damage and is slower than the other CEs, though, I'm not sure why you think that's too much.

What exactly does his stance aGi because I saw Rich get hit with a high vertical and mid attack or is the window extra tight so it's not easy to abuse.

It seems it doesn't work on high horizontals. My bad. NFK was really hasty about testing that so I didn't get a great look at it. It certainly worked for 2As and it did not work for vertical mids.

Ok thanks. I was totally baffled watching the stream Sunday.

Hmm i wasnt talking about his CE, think you misread something there...

Oh his BEs, I can see how you'd mistake that for Asura
6AK$, 6BK$, and 66BBB are three hit strings that you might mistake for Asura, but these all require CH

For BEs he's got
6AK$
6BK$
A+BK$

which all end in that delayable kick then the headbutt. I'm fairly certain you can CH confirm the kick and for the BE extension.

He also has
33AA$ (4-low string)
44K$ (which is Kilik/Mina 44K TJ kick)

One more BE I forgot: WR K$, where he does Kilik's WR K, does an additional kick, then throw the pole at them. So that's 6 BEs, wow, Pat only has 3.

Well im assuming the first three you posted above are his shoulder charge after that delayed kick. They are really just different ways to get that particular BE to come out. Seems fair.

Xiba looks like alot of fun; it seems like they gave him even more moves to control horizontal movement. I can't wait to play with him.

Okay, so after weeks of stalling I've finally taken some spare time out of my life to give SCV a 3rd look and watch a legit match video with Xiba (Signia vs Barry's Maxi). It was a good match that I think showed me a great deal about both characters.

I've mained Kilik for over 10 years.
I'm not playing this idiot for even 10 minutes.

I dunno how you guys could've liked playing Kilik in pasts game and then tolerate this new guy. This was my input back in December 20th on SRK.com when Xiba's english-language trailer was first revealed:

"It's official: Namco REALLY doesn't want me to play nor expose this game, because they knew that the most sinister thing they could possibly do to the series is to not only REMOVE Kilik whose been a great and major character since Calibur 1, but REPLACE him AND get Johnny Yong Bosch to do the voice for the new guy. Bosch...the worst, most overused, most same-sounding, shittiest voice actor on the west coast who should've never been given another role after Wolf's Rain. Well played, Namco; you knew my weak point. You wanna see how badly this guy Bosch can ruin something great? Watch Akira.

Speaking of shitty, overused things: Xiba is EXACTLY what I said he was going to be when I posted in that first article that revealed nothing but artwork and screenshots for him (go see it for yourself, it wasn't modded): typical monkey king-archetype, rehashed concept #680,124 with the generic, shonen, Son Goku-ish personality of a peppy, bright-eyed 10 year old retard that thinks about nothing but the excitement of fighting and always wanting to eat food. Well I guess since I already know so much about how Japan overuses all 12 of their character concepts I believe I'm ready to apply for an anime studio and start producing. It sounds like easy money and I seem to have the whole business down so I think I could hang with the best of them. Look for my name in the credits of Bandai's next biggest piece of shit anime (no, I don't mean the new Gundam coming out where they fight aliens)."

With the way Calibur has been since SCIII and how tough it's been for people to take the game seriously/competitvely, you could always at least count on a particular character or fighting style to keep you interested in the game even when most people wouldn't touch the series after SCII. Not something that was considered gimmicky or slapstick-humor bullshit, just something visually appealing yet not overdone that manages to make the game look a little better. Kilik was able to do that despite how fucking lame he was competitively in SCIV post-patch.

But when I watch this character Xiba, all I see is some loud dork who talks way too much during his attacks, treats his staff like a stripper pole, does goofy "ride the pony" shit (or whatever that back-turned move was) and every time he gets beat all he has to say is "SO HUNGRY". And I'm not supposed to feel like I was 100% right about how mediocre this character was going to be? I'm not psychic, it's just that I can tell when Japan is going to do something stupid after seeing a mere screenshot. I guess if you solely play fighting games to win tournament matches no matter how boring or retarded your character is then you won't have a problem with any of this.

Xiba isn't stylish, he's a freak show that makes the game look worse than it already has for over 5 years. It's a digital travesty. Xiba represents everything that is wrong, confused and friggin' immoral with Calibur as well as Japan's current state of (un)creativity showing in fighting games. There's no way I can pick Xiba, play a tournament match, win, and feel like I styled on my opponent when I spent half the match throwing out moves that belong in a gawdamn carnival act. Fuck this stupid character; I'm picking Maxi whom I'm not even half-decent at using. That'll at least motivate me to play SCV for more than 2 hours.

Cheers, gentlemen.
