Your Top 5 Rappers of all time

[09] Warrior
1. Jadakiss the guys charisma and wordplay is just too dam good with a raspy voice complete monster.

2. Jay-Z He could be 1 i just like jada better.

3. Bigge grew up on him he was ahead of his time i think certainly showed the young cats such as myself how to get that money.

4. Nas the poet for everyone.

5. Raekwon this guy never gets the credit for how great he is.

Honorable mention AZ & Rakim

1: Big Pun. Boricua. yessir.

2: tie big and 2pac. i got to give it to big for the slight edge. simply because biggie was a performer. 2pac was a great rapper. listen to his stuff when you want to think about somethings.. want to dance, want to get in a party mood... biggie was where you needed to be listening.

3: Jay Z. reasonable doubt.

4: Lil wayne. mainly for the carter 2.. but this man is a fucking monster. when he conscious... his shit can make you laugh, do double takes and make you question his lyrics. and fuckin ey... his shit varies so fuckin much i can't tell if he has a ghost writer or if he's actually making the shit up himself. Just a little fun tidbit about this man.. listen to his joints.. he is one of the few rappers out there today that can get away with doing a 4-5 minute song without a hook.

5: fuck.. another tie. Budden, Joel Ortiz, Lupe

and because it's relevant and had me laughing..

1: Notorious B.I.G: G.O.A.T

Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl6jwab3HWk

2: Wu-Tang (as a collective): Moment i heard Wu-Tang aint nuthin to fuck with, I knew they were going to be some of my favorites. Simple, effective repetitive beats laced with lyrical bullets, fired at 90BPMs. An all-star team without equal. They really should be given more respect than they are currently getting.

Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl6jwab3HWk

3: Tupac: Liked his old stuff like "I get around" much more than for example "Hit em up", but still...From California Love to Brenda's Got a Baby, this guy produced so many classics, you couldn't count them with 10 sets of hands. He was one of the few who could take an old pop song and make it better (Kanye makes his living doing something similar but don't ever include him in the same sentence as Tupac).

Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl6jwab3HWk

4:Big Pun: He wasn't fat, was just full of beats. Only recently started listening to him, but from what i've heard, this guy is an iron wordsmith. Great flow, terrific pace and a very strong voice.

Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl6jwab3HWk

5: Eminem: Only one on the list who is still relevant in today's market. I have to put him here cause if it wasn't for Real Slim Shady playing on the bus while on my way back home, all the way back in 2000; i would still be listening to Pop music. The white boy always had great delivery and though some of his choice of material could be improved (rapping about Hailey for the 1000th time), his persona, lyrics and most of all flow, are still shinning beacons in this dark time for Hip-Hop.

Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqmH493JEpA

Special mentions to Ice Cube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqmH493JEpA), Coolio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EvCSAMUrcY), Shock G (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs), DMX (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs), Dr.Dre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs), Kurtis Blow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs) , Beastie Boys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs) , Run DMC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs) , Young Snoop Dog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs), Nasty Nas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs) , do the Fugees count ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9_yW8tZxs )?

I think Lil Wayne is a terrible rapper. After Fireman, lollipop and Make it Rain...my impression of him is beyond repair. Autotuned hack imho. Listening to Drop the World atm and Enimen is killing him on his own song. Lol. Pathetic. Hip-Hop is dead. RIP.

in no particular order here
LL Cool J-this dude been putting down hits longer than most on this site been alive.
Easy E-how can you forget about this guy. pure genius.

Run DMC-dont get much better than this.

2 Short-is the shit regardless.

Eric B and Rakim-i always loved these guys music.

just a couple of my favs but too many to list.

*sigh*. so misunderstood but what's the world without enigma?

took a beat that was made for TI... and made it his own. you can't honestly sit there and tell me, that after listening to 6foot 7foot that this nigga is not a beast. okay? you can't because that would be a bold faced lie. and you know damn well it's a hard ass track. fucking corey gunz signed on that track. and he hates wayne. had every reason to cause wayne owed his ass money, and wayne got his ass on that shit. both of them came off hard. from what you just told me proved to me you don't hear his lyrics.

you can tell me. you're not a fan of wayne and that's respectable. but to tell me he's a terrible rapper. c'mon son. the fuck out of here with that bullshit. go listen to the carter and the carter 2.. then come back and tell me he's a terrible rapper. if you can sit there and tell me after them albums- shit just listen to 6foot 7foot. if you still say he's a terrible rapper, i'll say you're in denial. I'm not saying you have to like the nigga but i am saying respect the man's talent. wayne is a fucking beast.

and lookin at that list of yours.. i'm sorry but if i had to judge, I'd say wutang doesn't belong on that list. maybe top ten.. top twenty. and reaching for top fifty. not top five. slaughterhouse ranks higher then them. if we were back in the 90's I'd say wutang does deserve a spot up there on top five.. fact is.. here we are 2011.. they have not evolved. they haven't changed or adapted well to the times, and ODB (R.I.P)'s absence is felt. it's just wow.. sad really. I heard Meth's recent album and that shit was a tragedy. I mean way to prove budden's point.

I see your special mentions include coolio... really? no mobb deep? scarface? Lox? Lords of the Underground? Pete rock cl smooth? Dilated peoples? black thought and the roots? Arrested Development? talib kweli? common? mos def? pharoh maunch? pharcyde? gangstarr? coolio gets special mention but none of these niggas get recognized... gangsta's paradise musta left an impression... and it's a damn shame that LL got no love. he = the greatest battle rapper of all time.

on that note special shot out to bone thugs n harmony. rip eazy e... Creepin on da come up... east 1999 Eternal... fuckin art of war was ahead of its time...

don't worry b.. you're good.

also. hip hop did not die. the paradigm changed. it still does live and lives well. it just grew the fuck up. people saw money in it.. and did what anybody would do. get that money.

Top rappers? Well, I don't have many in the 2000-present hip-hop scene that like.
But, I'll list a few artists that don't make me cringe as much. Remember, this is just my opinion.

Timbaland
Snoop Dogg
Kid Cudi
Kanye West(Despite his behavior)
Flo-rida
Jay-Z
Lupe Fiasco
Eminem
OutKast

I tend to look for joints with the whole package(beat, flow, etc). However, the present hip-hop IMHO feels like "one-two-sesame-street" and nothing more. But if you start speaking 90's and below hip-hop, then I might be your guy.

People like

LL cool J
Rakim and Eric B.
Dr. Dre
Tupac
Biggie Smalls
etc.

Dylan

madnis, it isn't that wayne is terrible, it is that he has over-saturated us with garbage. does he have good stuff? sure he does. but when you are releasing a song a week for two years it is bound to be 90% trash. he has zero artistic integrity and it has ruined his name, imo. sometimes i hear his stuff and think, "wow this guy is brilliant" and sometimes i hear his stuff and think, "oh there's wayne not making sense and talking about retarded shit for then 9th song in a row." consistency is crucial with any form of art or performance, and he has zero of it. also, LOL at thinking that LL could even come close to eyedea in a battle. that man is fucking untouchable.

that said, my top 5 rappers, in order, along with some of my favorite tracks if you are unfamiliar, are:

Eazy-E (RIP): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWFV9QbtjNk
Eyedea (RIP): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-8GUXaRig8&feature=related
Sweatshop Union: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_oyQ4jSa8M
Del tha Funky Homosapien: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ihraCCCrpk&feature=related
Brother Ali: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K5rJdGbOqo

honorable mention to MFdoom, Carnage, Immortal Technique and Slick Rick/Dr. Octagon

Shad.

He's like the only one I know, so. I guess Classified, but he's not so much a rapper.

So, Shad.

For the rest of my list:

The Korean girl from Wonder Girls. She's got style, talent, and flow.
That dude from Brokencyde. God he's good.
Insane Clown Posse. Juggalo 4 life.
Shaquille O'neal. Can't be stopped.

do you want me to shoot it? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
do you want me to pass it? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
DO YOU WANT ME TO SLAAAAAAAM?

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

@madnis- let me go download those albums (not giving that hack a cent) then ill get back to you.

Also some of the others you mentioned i liked a lot but it would be impossible to list everyone who was good (or i liked) during the golden age. Loved LL but his new stuff was pretty damn terrible. Eric B/Rakim i missed. Dilapated peoples didnt get them over in my country though i have heard a few songs. Mobb Deep sucks balls since they joined with 50. Their old stuff, yeah was fantastic. The roots we didnt get either. I forgot about Easy E but his lyrical content was never the best and he used ghost writers. His delivery, flow etc however were top notch so i shouldve included him as well. I wouldve included southern rappers like Nelly, Luda, outkast as well. But hey i missed em. I loved Coolio cause he actually did have a couple of good CDs back when he was popular. He had great flow and his style was crazy. And gangster's paradise is one of the best songs of all time so yeah...

Don't forget, im going back in time for a lot of these songs and rappers. I didnt have the luxury of turning on the radio and listening to the songs when they were new. Also most of the songs which reached my country were butchered and mutilated by censorship before they even got on the air. Also when trying to listen to imported uncensored CDs, you had to pay 50-80 dollars for one. I remember buying my first copy of Doggystyle and it cost like 60 bucks (40 USD) back in 2000. So i missed out on the Roots, Dilated peoples etc etc.

But yeah if you prefer wayne over wu tang, i think we're going to agree to disagree.

Hip-hop is dead. The times where it was something intellectual, witty, fun, crazy or even chill are over. No more talking about life and its problems. Now its bitches, money, hoes, G6s, making it rain and other material crap. Yeah Biggie did talk about the previously mentioned things, but hey, it was witty and clever. Now its rinse and repeat. Perfect for the idiot generation. Technically Justin Bieber is part of hip-hop now (God help us).

Im embarrassed when i tell to music lovers that I love hip-hop.. Their common reaction is "What?!" before guffawing. I would (and i should) stand up for hip-hop, but its very hard nowadays. Very very hard when Lil Wayne and friends are the headliners.

Edit- All im hearing from 6 foot 7 foot is an irritating self-centered little man with an utterly irritating little voice. Its got some witty lyrics and is better than the other stuff from him ive listened to but where is the rhyme? Where is the technique? What's his theme? I didn't get it on the first listen...
His delivery is terrible, sounds like hes got a speech impediment. Don't get me wrong, im wanting to like it cause if thats the case then i can go buy my first new album in 3 years. But now its ended and there's nothing i really remember of it.

engared check out my eyedea or brother ali links. hip hop is far from dead, it is just underground as it always has been. what you know of it is 15 years old, which is how it should be before the shit hits mainstream.

Listed in no particular order.
I'm all Underground.
1.Jedi Mind Tricks
2.MC Exposition
3.One Be lo
4.Stro the 89th Key
5.Talib Kweli

I agree with Mandis no matter how much you get sick of lil wayne the guy is a great rapper. He takes a lot of chances that other rappers don't haves the balls to take. Between wayne and rick ross they are the hottest dudes out right now... I'm amazed at how many different styles wayne has new flow for every song homeboy is shining right now.
