One of Namco's key talking points in the development of Soul Calibur V has been their desire to support the tournament community after the release of the game. With the interaction between 8WayRun, FilthieRich and Project Soul being constant, the next logical step would be for Namco to provide direct support to the community run events.

This morning, I got some news that was nothing short of an amazing surprise. Interested? Read On!

Hate Speech: Algol Nudes Surface, Scandal Ensues

Welcome back to another standard edition of Hate Speech, what is fast becoming the source for fuzzy wuzzy let’s-hold-hands-around-the-campfire communitarian schlock. It’s not that I want to be a positive person—I don’t. My tiny, black heart pumps nothing but the condensed syrup of scorn and loathing which sustains me, but these are unusual times. We’re a month and some change away from SC5’s release, and I’m seeing arguments which are as counterproductive as they are wholly unnecessary, so today we’ll be discussing a few more community/demographic issues and hopefully putting everything to bed.

For those of you out there who didn’t catch it, there was briefly a thread in the SC5 forum regarding Famitsu’s Algol and Edgemaster character reveals. The sight of Algol’s majestic nakedness (he looks awesome, don’t you dare argue the point) sent everyone into a predictable frenzy; tempers became short, perceptions of reality began distorting, and several people started actually taking Vincent seriously. These are all dire omens, indeed...

Critical Edge: Building Your Own Stream (Part 2)

Building a stream setup is an incremental process. First you need to put together a system to record your games, then you need to add vocal commentary, and finally you take all that it do it live. Last week, I went through the basics on how to record your video games. The first thing we accomplished was a setup able to handle the recording of video from your console to your computer.

However, just recording video games isn't enough; you need a way to infuse commentary into your recordings. There are many ways to add commentary; if you were just dealing with recordings, and not a live stream, you could simply add a voice over in post-production using a PC microphone and a video editing program such as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. However, since the end result of these articles is to have a live stream, this just isn't good enough.

Kayane has made it into the record books for being the first woman to place top 3 in 42 fighting game tournaments, for which the majority of those placements were for tournaments in Soulcalibur.

She was also invited to London to receive the accomplishment, which can be seen in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition for 2012. Please check her blog for more details. She received the award back in July along with Ryan Hart who received his own award, but had to keep it a secret until now. There will be more pictures from the shooting, including her cosplay as Chun-Li next month.

Hate Speech: A Christmas Miracle

Editor’s Note: Every year around this time, Hates returns to Oklahoma, land of his birth, in order to spend time with those members of his family still willing to speak with him. Already a stressful time for many of us, as suicide statistics clearly indicate, the holidays are an acutely difficult time for Hates. The intersection of cold weather, good will toward men, and overt religiosity leaves him in a state of severe agitation. Despite such hardships, Hates maintained that he could stick to his writing schedule, and the Hate Speech Editorial Cabal remained optimistic..

Optimistic, that is, until the Associated Press began picking up stories of rum and eggnog-fueled chaos in the Tulsa area, including the following: swinging from holiday lights, ham theft, unlicensed freestyle caroling, and fleeing the scene of an altercation with an inflatable yard Santa...
