Getting High Hurts Your Gaming Skills...

LOL! From the Huffington Post...

The White House Drug Czar's office has tumbled through a cascading set of warnings about the dangers of marijuana over the years. The drug that once would fry your brain or lead to heroin addiction has recently been downgraded to a cause of sloth.

The softer ads argue that while it might not kill you, pot will make you a couch potato and a good-for-nothing loser.

Now, the Drug Czar Office (currently run by acting chief Ed Jurith) is going one further: not only will marijuana sink you into hours of wasted time on your couch, you won't even be any good at video games while you're sitting there.

"Getting high affects your brain in ways that may directly influence your gaming ability," warns the Drug Czar's Web site, citing the impairment of "many of the skills required for winning a background, defeating an opponent, [and] beating games."

To dramatize how bad a stoner can be at video games, the site interviews a computer-generated character who laments the demise of a gamer friend of hers. "I used to have a good time with Lyle. We made a good team. He had skill. He had swiftness," she says. "Well, he used to, anyway. Then our last fight, Lyle decided to get high. And it was simply: sayonara skill, sayonara swiftness."

The 2009 budget allocates $100 million for the Drug Czar's media campaign.

Ask Neopopulous what happens to my gaming skills when I smoke a cigarette.

I really don't know about this one o_o....

I think more indepth when I'm high, like as in if I'm playing an RPG, I'll really analyze what my attack pattern is, and the right mixture of defense and offense, etc.

In a fighting game such as SC4, I take alot more risks when I'm high, pulling Raphael's riskier prep moves off, etc....not sure if that makes me worse or better.

Hard call o_o....pot effects everyone differently. Great sexual stimulant IMO as well, that's the biggest reason I don't want to give it up. My g/f might not like me smoking much but she can't argue that fact either.

i used to do my best looping high. problem is my defense takes a serious hit as well. SC and SC2 i played great high. SC4......not so much. it did help me come up with peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwiches though.

alright then, explain the stories of ViciousSuicide I used to hear. lol.

There's a lot of saturated fat in those munchies snacks.

Also, I ate those all the time as a kid... they call them a... uh... fluffer... fluffernutter. Goggle would probably confirm this just uh... be careful.

Careful. Fluffernutters have been banned in a few school districts.

ok, i'll relate this story. the two of us were running house in halo one night at a friends house. now to celebrate our victory jaxel decides to smoke a cigarette, gets all dizzy and high, and then proceeds to get owned and we lose the next game. tobacco makes jaxel a noob

There is no explanation. But he could barely compete without weed in his system, and was almost unstoppable when he was high. It's not that I haven't seen players play better while high, I've just never seen those extremes before.

I wonder if the gap between stoned and unstoned vicious has closed at all over the years? If there was ever a tourney that would let him smoke up during matches, he'd probably godmatch everyone straight through the whole tournament lol.

I used to play with a French Canadian kid in UT2k4 ctf/tdm who HAD to smoke before he played. He was complete garbage if he wasn't stoned. However, after he toked up a bit, he'd just start tearing shit up like mad.

LOL they were vicious. ask vicious bout the first time he smoked lol. it was in chinatown in NYC during tekken 4 regionals, vicious! and EVO2k8, VICIOUS!

i corrupted vicious lol. we used to be roomates back in the day when he lived on the east coast, we killed more trees than loggers in the amazon lol.

i too play better while 'supercharged' in most games especially UT2k4 either DM or ONS.

and the epic food contests ive been apart of lol, oh yea, supercharge FTW!!!

i like this thread lol

I LOL'd hard at that.

LOL I still remember that pic after Evo2k4 in that thread "What makes Vicious so Vicious!?" and hence, that is why Vicious was the FIRST person to come to mind when I saw this thread.

I may have been exaggerating the time spent per day to make a point.

Drugs are for losers end of story.

so does getting hammered ...but I don't think I've really ever heard of people using a few beers to IMPROVE their game...lol. I mean...damn that shit kills one's reaction time. (and while I don't smoke this thread wasn't a question about whether smoking was good or bad so try not to troll the topic of the thread by just randomly saying things...)

Drugs are for losers end of story.

Care to elaborate as to why, or are you gonna stick to sweeping bullshit generalisations?

To quote Bill Hicks:

"I know this is not a very popular idea. You don't hear it too often any more... but it's the truth.
I have taken drugs before and... I had a real good time.

Sorry.

Didn't murder anybody, didn't rape anybody, didn't rob anybody, didn't beat anybody, didn't lose — hmm — one fucking job, laughed my ass off, and went about my day."

I got to witness this first hand at Clash. Vicious was tearing through the brackets pretty much untouched, and he was calm, quite, and clearly completely smoked out.

And then he began to come down. And you could see exactly when he started coming down- his perfects starting disappearing, he started complaining, and started making mistakes and getting really frustrated.

And then suddenly he lost, and then lost again, and was out. lol

To date, I've never seen anything else, or anyone else, like that in gaming.

Lets get your mom on the phone and ask her what she thinks about her son being on drugs.
