Life After Nationals/Evo?

how would tag really make the game more fun? hey i tagged you in now you fight then if your life gets low you tag me in and i'll fight? thats fun? for me just balance the weak characters and i will keep playing.

Yeah back in SC3 things still happened after Nationals, and people were saying the same stuff. Unlike that game though, this one is fairly balanced/bug free by comparison, so I can't see it dying off anytime soon.

If anything, Nats and Evo will re-ignite the community with even more talks to character bans and such. People who lose gonna want payback, etc.

Tag unlocks a new kind of multiplayer experience and combos. Simply having 4 player is a fun addition. Competitively counter picking and new combo links are great. Imagine chains like Ivy pulls WP 1B, 2B+K then you switch to astaroth and pull 28:B+G. You can also pick characters for good range on the fly. Use Taki and then when you get knocked back switch in your kilik till you knock the opponent down and you can pop taki back in to cover ground. The switching is also disorienting. Getting ready to block a predictable Talim string and out of nowhere Ivy pops in and throws iCS! It also allows you to have a friend hop in when you may not be the best person to beat whatever character/person your fighting between you.

Tekken 6 is said to have soul cal style fighting now and i fear that SC5 may never be and Tekken may just absorb it, and I REALLY hope I'm wrong.

Are you serious? EPIC no.

Look, I've PLAYED tekken 6 last summer (I've still got my arcade ID card to prove it). If anything, Tekken 6 is like Tekken 5. Which to say was like Tekken 3, 2 and 1.

In other words, no, it doesn't play anything like SC; its still about from-jab-hit-to-8-million-hit-ground-combo-can't-do-anything-about-it style gameplay. Honestly, (off-topic btw) I will still play it for a couple of weeks for the sake of my friends, but I still don't see what makes Tekken fans keep playing this game. The unrealistic physics are patched up a little in this version of T6, but its still relatively unchanged since around '95 when the first game came out. The Virtua Fighter series had about 3-4 different overhauls in the same time, giving it a fresh style, whether you like the game or not. Even Soul Calibur changed its playing style between 2,3, and 4. Tekken just looks and plays rediculous now, getting juggled by weak jab hits still pisses me off to no end, as there is no logic behind it.

Sorry, got carried away again. --END TEKKEN RANT--

Im sure it could unlock a few new infinites too :)

My circle of friends will likely continue playing this game until SC5 comes out. Why wouldn't we? It's a really fun game and we've all spent a lot of time developing our characters. We really wanted to get involved in the tournmanet scene in Toronto, but our work schedules have interfered thus far. Working weekends sucks.

SFIV came out, we played it for maybe a month, got sick of it and we're back into SCIV. We're looking forward to BlazBlue, but even if it's good, SCIV is still going to get playtime.

Forgive me for this question, but won't SCIV be at EVO next year as well? If there's still a strong community, why wouldn't it have an international tournament scene still? Unless of course SCV hits the market. With SCIV selling 2 million copies in the first week of it's release, SCV seems like a sure thing.

Even though I wont participate in Evo, I'm going to play SCIV until T6 comes out and then it's bye bye to SC for me for a while.

Soul Calibur 4 basically stole me from Fight Night Round 3 (SN check.. LeftHandLead)... But once Round 4 drops in June. I'll most likely be returning to the FN community. I'll still jump on Soul from time 2 time mainly to shoot the shit with old buddies who still may be playing.

The game isnt going to die... its just funny how people want to write it off like that. There will always be a core community and I wish people would just stop being so negative about everything. Like Jaxel is one thing but once you realize he never has anything good to say about anything and treat him like a walking cliche hes just funny. But like this thread in general makes me wonder if some of you want to try and kill off the scene... or is it that you just dont realize thats what your doing? Like when a new person comes to visit the site and sees this thread on the main page what kind of first impression is that? Why would someone come out to travel for something if all his interactions with the online community are experiences filled with negativity? You all love to cry broke too... ban this thread... this is too low tier thread... this is too top tier thread... Now the this game is dying thread... GG

any chance this game will still have competitions after evo/nats? Perhaps another year of them? Not sure how it all works.

I'am playing actually SF4, it's fun, but i reach some kind of creativity limits.
I will play T6, cause i love KING, and it will be fun.
But i still love SCIV more than the others.

There will be maybe a major international tournament, who knows!

Most of the people I play with have gone SF4 happy, even I tried to play it. But we stil have people who play. I still play, I play online with some friends and some decent players to try to learn some things from time to time. We will continue to hold monthlies and SC4 will continue to be part of those montlies as long as I'm around.

I'm not sure if Albuquerque can pull off another one of those grand tournaments like we used to do at Howard Johnsons, but with the gamers lounge that we have here with two 60 inch screens and eighteen 32 inch screens, we could put on a pretty good dual fighting game tourney, would just need enough PS3's to go around.

Anyway, as long as people are still throwing majors, and people are willing to travel, it shouldn't just die. SC players play other games too, so they will still get together. I mean, you have a Blazblue tourney, you might have SC4 there as well, or a tekken 6 tourney will still have calibur players there as well.

There will still be big tournaments for SC4 in the coming years, don't even worry about that. SC3 still had them and people jumped ship early on because they didn't like it. This game is in no way in danger of dying.

That's what they all say, this game will die the day after Evo.

[/sarcasm]

If the community dies it dies but I don't see the point in predicting its death or talking about it dying. Its already apparent our community is pretty weak, but we should be looking on how to improve it rather than pointing out the obvious.

Tag would be broken as all hell. Hilde's C3B Doom combo and instead of ending with C2AA you switch to Asta and titan bomb them? Gives it massive RO range that could possibly go from one end to the other of the snow level, would do insane damage and if there's a wall, would combo into 2B+K A+G for even more retarded damage. In fact it doesn't even have to be Hilde, switch after any launcher and Asta can titan bomb for forward RO and killer damage or A+G for reverse RO.

And all moves become safe since you can switch during block stun or hit, which probably means there are some retarded guaranteed combos after guard breaks.

Simple solution to tag, add a huge combo damage deduction when you switch. When the combo ends you go back to normal damage. I just like the idea of 4 player and counter picking etc...
