To stick or not to stick, that's the ?

I play on a 360. I want to get better. I'm getting there. ...slowly. I also want to know if I should be using a game stick instead of the 360 controller. Is there a definite advantage of gamestick over controller? I understand there are better and worse sticks (TE's etc), better and worse buttons, better and worse brand names (albeit the Hori cheapo does come with the spiffy SCIV characters on it ;) ) . But from ground zero, if I intend to get somewhat decent at this game, am I better off learning on a stick?

I appreciate all opinions. ...except those from haters :) .

ive no experience using kilik, so cant say much on that. but yes the 360 pad is notoriously bad for this game, are you using the d-pad or the stick? but to be honest its not actually that bad, i can get all of setsuka's inputs 100% and most of my characters are 236 orientated, and although i used to curse the 360 d-pad i have no problems with it now. i guess its just whatever suits you best. have you tried a stick before? my votes for the crappy 360 pad.

I use the stick on the controller. I have no feel for the dpad. I have not tried a game stick. ... well, except back in the day at arcades. Thanks for the input, PJ.

you definatly need to get used to the d-pad, analog stick is horrible for any fighting games.

Interesting. Is it more "precise"? I seem to be able to pull off some more techy moves with the analog and not the d pad (Asura Dance), but I did not try for very long with the D pad. I'll give it another shake. I still would like to switch to a game stick if it is that much better.

On the 360, the analog stick is definitely better than the d-pad imo. The problems with analog sticks in general are far outweighed by the fact that the 360 d-pad just doesn't work.

the d-pad may not be as accurate, but shouldnt be a problem for any of sc4's inputs. my main problem with the stick is doing 8wayrun moves and impacts. personally i find i can do any input much faster on the d-pad.

I'm thinking of getting a stick perhaps even dreaming of getting one. I'm thinking so far the HRAP 3 SA. I'm getting sick of my fingers slipping to the wrong buttons when it comes to the critical moment to perform the moves I want to perform. Maybe I don't have to button bind after all which I need to mostly for the pad.

I had very little exp in handling the arcade stick, but I'm sorta getting the hang of it maybe with Sanwa buttons being sensitive I can get a good responsive input on certain situations.

hrap sa is a very good stick. probably the best you can get along with the madcatz TE. (they have a slightly different layout so its more about taste than anything else)

and you can mod it so it works on both platforms -> you have the same controller on xbox and ps3, no need to adapt when you play at a friends / at a tournament / whatever

I don't really think there is a major advantage but sticks can help you pull of more precise moves easier and the buttons are more responsive then the controller.IMO I find sticks alot more fun to play with its like your playing on a mini piano.

Generally a stick will improve your game in any fighter. Especially in the directional department, but it takes some getting used to.
When playing on a pad you get those shoulder buttons though, making sure you don't screw up any dubble presses.

I prefer pad. SCIV aint that hard of a game to play compared to sum others and most inputs can be done easily on a pad. It's really just what your used to. I've only ever played on pad and everything feels natural. The PS3 D pad feels precise and I use the analog for the circular motions. Not to mention button mapping does help.

I bought a stick and tried it out but failed. I know i can change but at first it even felt a bit wierd cause it felt like i had to reach a long way to hit block and had no way how to actually hold the stick. It was hard for me to even hit diagonals.
