Theory Calibur/Go to DEV/Like This Post Thread

Well... you make good points, but I see it in a different way. I dont think Raph has no pushback. I see his range an advantage in itself. A great step etc. Before we go on I want to know what is this about, does some Raph player need help or its another tier discussion? Lets talk about concrete examples, not general theory.

What is interesting however, when my VS Amy videos first come to web I got a lot of feedback from top Amy players of the world , who told me "Edge is not playing right" , "he should use more lows" etc. Until EVO that is. Much like what you're saying. I assure you, Edge is in no way a weak player and if Raph was so low tier he definitely wouldnt be losing so badly against him.

To get an idea of how strong Edge is, you must remember Rufus, so Edge is slightly better that Rufus and also has much better matchup knowledge. Although I'm flattered you say "you're the best" (I know you think Omega is the best though, so I wont fall for it!), I still think you give Edge too little credit.

PS: Answer my PM's once in awhile please. Do you ever check your inbox?

Concrete example.
My sparring partner plays Raphael competitive since SC3. Raph SC3 was bad, but this one is even worst (comparative to other characters). Nickname: Gohan. A lot of matches of him on youtube. COPDT7, plays Raph since the very beginning of SC4. He had some good results but no victory. Keev pick Raph for 3 or 4 month, and didn't manage to win a single FT5 against my Ivy with Raph. He started to win at first against players like Keysona or Kira, until they learn the match up and not just the character moves. Then was not able to win anymore. Since the very beginning of SoulCalibur3 I had only lost 3 FT5 against Raphael, one during SC3 against Gohan, two during SC4 against Saitoh (yeah, that's a sad story...) and Keev with my Zas. I really know the character very well (even play him for time to time) but the more I play against him, the less I feel it able to defeat other characters. Yet, Gohan save my LASTCHANCE team in Cannes, whereas Kayane, Alex, Panto and I where out he strykes back Maxou's team in the final with Raph !!!

Both Gohan, COPDT7 and Keev will be happy to have some help with Raph against other characters. I'm pretty sure of it.

Some ex:
COPDT7 vs Kira (Cervantes) : http://www.justin.tv/gnouzcorp/b/272924424
Gohan vs JTB, Akire, SLS, Sakon : http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12978912
(Remember the "a little bit more agressive" advice !O_o ah ah ah)
Keev vs FreackySound (Voldo) : http://www.justin.tv/gnouzcorp/b/278574772 (1:30:00)
Keev won. Still I think Voldo is very advantaged here.

I know that Edge is strong. But you are way better. I still think Omega is the best (well, maybe Scud is the best now.) but in Russia you still has more XP of competitive play. There is no reason to deny it. Rufus was very strong, as expected but also lack knowledge on some match up. His FT5 against Keysona was very very close, but then he loosed to Keev badly. Not because Keev was very stronger, but because he had trouble with Night. Everyone was able to see it. Edge is probably better than Rufus (if you said so I believe you), but it's not easy to learn a match up.
+ Every players had some trouble with some characters, no matter how strong they are. Talim and Lizard are still difficult for me for example. I know Setsuka is a pain for Saitoh. Maxou can't stand in front of Mitsu without fear. Keysona don't like Ivy at all. Scud is not very confident against Astaroth. etc, etc... Maybe Edge don't like Raph.

This is very easy to check. Play a character for 2 years against some people, then change for another. You'll win the firsts matches for sure. I won some matches against my sparring partners with Rock, Taki, Tira, Mina or Raph at first. Then after some weeks, I had to come back to Ivy in order to defeat them again. However it is true that my opinion on Zasalamel is probably wrong because of Omega. And, yeah Kura is a beast too !

Ps: Sry I forget to answer. Done now... several times...

How do you still find Lizard difficult when Sakon plays him? Surely you've had at least some experience in casuals with him, no?

I find ivy getting a nerf unlikely, she's one of the pet favourites of one of the devs iirc, so she's at least guaranteed to be good.

ive read the threads on it... honestly there are times when that bitch makes me want to throw my controller(mainly online but still) but they were stupid about it. A quick tap with the nerf bat would pass, but they rammed it up her rear :(

Is Ivy that bad in BD?
Well certain things are just overly dumb: sure coil 1B,B+K is way too spammable but they made it practically useless from what I've read(keep in mind that what I read was based on ivy players opinions and thus bias). There's other stuff too, but in my opinion she just needs her SC damage lowered and a few tools but they went too far.

I dont think they intentionally make some characters good and others bad, it's generally an oversight as there's so many variables to consider

Why was he supposed to be really good? My argument is that they don't strive to make characters better than the others simply because of popularity, relation to canon, or newness. Everyone is all over the place in tiers in those respects. Algol however probably was simply because he's a boss, but that's debatable.

When tiers in a competitive mainstream fighting game are determined by the story of said game as an intentional choice by the developers (outside of boss characters) I will quit fighting games.

Yeah I'm deleting my post because I can see how ridiculous things would be under the "only as good as plot lets you be" belief.

thanks for cheering me up ..... until I realize that BD shall forever remain only on the PSP
Yes, but surely SC5 will have a lof of stuff based on BD. Not that it's a good thing as BD has even more balance issues than SC4...

I thought the same thing but... let's look at Setsuka for example. She was a new character in SC3 and quickly people realized how imba she was (oversight could be a good explanation here), then toned down in SC4 (but still good) and then... again imba in BD. How can we understand this? Developers made her so good only because she is "difficult" to master?
