Yep. Creative video art.

No. I believe both endings could be considered canon. Sophitia reach the top of the tower, defeat Algol, grabs his SoulEdge and try to destroy SoulCalibur but the sword starts to possess her and Algol stop/help her... He ask her to go back home to her children and Algol fades to only God know where with both swords. In meanwhile Siegfried reach the top of the tower and cross paths with Nightmare which after being defeated gets frozen/crystallized by SoulCalibur and Siegfried as well until some point in time before SC5. Note that Algol's SoulEdge and SoulCalibur are not the same as Nightmare's SoulEdge and Siegfried's SoulCalibur since each of them has those as main weapon when facing each other so just because Algol disappear with the swords and Nightmare and Siegfried are seen fighting with those as well after doesn't means both endings couldn't coexist.

Anyway about the whole aging issue people are just completely overreacting... This is fiction, not reality. It's a videogame for God Sake, real aging rules don't apply in videogames... Just look at Tekken I would say 15% of the roster is made of old guys who still kick the younger folks butt, Heihachi, Baek, Jinpachi, WANG and probably others I'm not remembering right now... To be honest I'm more concerned about the female characters since there aren't many old female characters in the fighting games. I can only remember of Sindel in Mortal Kombat who is like 10.000 years old which would be like her 40's or 50's in earth aging years...

But even in real life if someone turns 60, he/she will not just automatically turn into dust just because they made the effort of raising their hand to slap somebody... The appearance and health of someone depends on the life they made, if someone has been active for their whole life of course they will live longer, healthier and even the aging signs will take their time to be seen.

that is true but also being a game that the characters seek to attract more people besides an elder does not attract more people than someone young

I can say I have no problems with that as long as the character is fun to play with, interesting weapon choice, unique selection of outfit, haircut, etc..., appealing voice and dialogue all that count to make me fall in love for a character in general. I don't really pay much attention to if certain character is old or young. I love Jinpachi as much as I love Heihachi, Kazuya or Jin (4 relatives each one with a different age).

the problem is we do not know which characters return

Some are a safe bet, the youngest ones, Zasalamel since he is immortal and don't age (you bastard I wish I could be like that and date a girl from each different era hehe), Tira since she is able to change bodies, etc... Of course there will be some old chars as well to give some variety to the roster... If only my 27 fav. chars would be there... A guy can dream XD

Well, that's exactly it. If the entire roster consisted of male characters I think there'd be far less to worry about. Tekken cheats quite a bit since characters like Lee, Paul and Ganryu are technically old, but they don't look old at all. But what Tekken does and all other fighting game series does is get rid of any females above the age ~35.

And just in principle I think this is such a backwards move. The story has never been good, so getting rid of characters for that reason is bad. Heck, I'm gonna bet that the story will still revolve around everybody and their dog trying to get to soul edge, just like in the previous games.

Yeah... It seems japanese society/developers really have a problem with women being 35/40+ and being attractiv...

Well maybe it's because they're busy raising kids or something instead of marching off to fight with weapons in skimpy outfits.

It's not just Japanese society. It's a pretty common (mis?)conception everywhere to believe that life ends at 40, moreso if you're female, isn't it?

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Ivy and probably Taki will have some bs plot mechanic to slow their aging process or something. And I'd like an older Talim. Not a big Setsuka fan, but I guess they could transfer her moveset to the girl from her SCIV ending, if they really wanted to. Amy can go die in a forest fire. These are just my thoughts though. I think any hardcore Soph or Cass fans might be a little disappointed...

But that shouldn´t be a problem. Like in Sophitias case, the husband can take care of the kids and the mother fights as long as she can. ;)

But i really think it´s even more common in japan that even 30 year old woman=old. But it´s true that it seems to be some kind of a wrong worldwide "assumption".

I think it's a bad idea, most of out favorite characters will have their physical stamina greatly reduced. People want to play as the sexy milf Sophitia, not Patroklos.

I honestly want to play Patroklos. I like Sophitia a lot as a character (I was never really a fan of Cassandra), but I find Patroklos and the time skip idea incredibly interesting.

Siegfried's back and I like what they've done with him. I think a lot of the characters who will be 40s and such will likely return with a new design. As an example, Siegfried and Kilik are the same age and with Siegfried's return I'd say it's more than likely we'll just get a redesigned Kilik as well.

As for characters that may not return, well.. so long as they have suitable and enjoyable replacements I don't really have much of a problem. I like when developers take risks and try things different, otherwise everything gets stale.

sophitia's the only confirmed (and i guess cassandra indirectly) character with direct blood-related descendants in this game no ?

well out of the 2 confirmed characters yeah;

Its a gimmick I hope they don't overuse tho'. "Yeah all the women settled down and had kids!"
