Setsuka Videos

Will watch the vids some time during the week. Amy vs. Sets is a but in Amy's favor because of her speed and ability to punish most of Sets stuff...Sets step doesn't help much either. Still, I think it's not TOO bad because of Sets damage output. Some of the biggest things in that match, I think, are to step, space, and punish correctly. On top of that, you cannot hesitate or be afraid to use mids. In all actuality, you want Amy to use more b+k.

Sorry to disappoint again but I just got really nervous during Dev top 8 (especially when they told me they were completely resetting the bracket). On the plus side, I learned a BUNCH of stuff about Yoshi (probably not more than Doc...why have we never had a Sets matchup thread? =( ) and I think I was the only one to take a set off of Lolo (though we were never playing with any clear set goal...as I don't believe either of us like to play that way).

O well, I guess. I'm going to experiment with taking a shot or something before the tournament because I was hungover and drank a little the first day and don't remember being as nervous (though my reaction time was shot just about all weekend).

Other than that, I'm completely convinced that I can beat any other player. Has my blade finally reached perfection? Guess we'll find out come NEC, but I don't really fear anything anymore (except fuckin' Amy and Soph. >_>).

You did well, you only played way to defensive against Vince. When people jump all the time you have 214K airhit into umbrella, check that in trainingsmodus. Or just use more dash cancels to bait some moves. An other really good move against that is dash into aB slide which gives really nice damage against aired opponents. Lolo shouldnt be able to jump so much...same for vince. 44B+K, 214K~Umbrella, ab slide..she has some tools against jumpers. Even 66BA works...Also Sophies 4B shouldnt give you so much trouble, you can A+B auto GI his 2A with 236A+B...same for 8B. And against AA you have ch 4A...in the end you have the better options. Or just JF Umbrella the shit out of his mixups, you would have beaten EVERYTHING he did. AA, BB, 2A, Jumping moves...

I really think you need to be a bit more aggressive with JF umbrellas. People should be feared to attack you, not the other way round. Vince didnt even know the matcup at all...he didnt punish your 1AA (TAS B!), he never punished B+K, no GIs on 1BB...But really nice usage of single B pokes in your matches.

BE MORE AGGRESSIVE!!

Yeah, most of the super turtling was because of nerves. I played Vince and beat him 17-2. Guess you'd have to see how I play in casuals and mm's, but I have really...really bad nerves... Didn't think about the 236A+B but he was really only using 9b and AA afterwards so I just 4A. Really need some advice on dealing with nerves more than anything...

Fuckin' Doc! XD

But I'm seriously looking to try out anything now... That or I'm just going to stop playing in tournaments. I swear I was scared only once my entire tour of Afghanistan so I feel fuckin' silly when I get up there and I can't stop my heart from racing and my hands from shaking. Plus...you know...I use Magnums so...at the end of the day, I'm still a winner.

Just noticed something also because I watched the stream and saw how Vints made it out like he downloaded me or something. It was 16 and 0 but I had to go soon to take care of some stuff. He won 2 straight then and then I convincingly won the last one. Still, history is written by the victors so I guess I'll just have to come harder the next time we play.

Watching the vids now. Will comment on them (from what I can see for now, you're way too agressive with her wake up game wise. You end up loosing initiative nearly all the times at the wakes up against KrazyCD for exemple).

Pressure is one of the only drawback to Setsuka. Keep trying :) It'll work.

PS : I am back ! I have a new xbox, and a game, I can play SC4 again ! Will try to upload vids against Yoshi soon.

OK watched the vids. You shoked on KrazyCD and you should have won against Vincent. Too bad.
My advice :
- Less 1B:B (!! you're lucky they're lenient enough in the US for this to work so much), less 33B. More 3B (!!), more 9B (!), more throws (!!!!), more 214K, more 6K, more 3A. More "random" umbrellas (!). More "random" 214~3B:B. Work on your tracking mids.
- You play too beautiful. Stick to the basics. Doc will tell you I play an ugly Setsuka. That's true. But it works :)
- More 236~3B. More 236~Throws. Especially after 2A. Forget about WS B after 2A. It doesn't deal NH damage for the same speed.
- I'd put more GIs too.
- Stop rushing your wake up games. Get your 2K, backdash and let them rise and come. When you feel they start doing other things than rolling OTG you can mix it up.

Good, solid play overall. Keep up the good work !!

Oh my god! It's the Legend! =O

- Yes, the Yoshi vids would help a lot. I pretty much just learned all my Yoshi matchup stuff against Lolo last Friday. In particular, I don't really know how safe a bunch of his stuff is or how to step some of it.
- When I get nervous, I use a bunch more 1B:B; it's something I know I really need to work on. <3 33B. I really don't 'know how to use' wrK (except after certain attacks) or 3B (it seems like it either works beautifully or gets stepped and I get my shit punished x_o). I usually throw a hell of a lot more but didn't because of nerves.
-There was actually a method to the wrB after 2A and I feel like I should've used it more. A lot of people watched me play or played long sets with me prior to the tournament and know that I tend to mix people after 2A so they started 2A'ing or using jump attacks after any 2A I did. You can especially see it in my match vs. KCD, where it shut down my initiative quite a few times.
- I really suck with random umbrellas unless I'm feeling myself. It'll get blocked and punished sometimes and then I'll dwell on it too much. Tend to forget that I play Sets and she has the highest average damage output bar none.

Going to go back to the lab and really try to work hard for NEC. But, in the mean time, I'm looking forward to any advice/discussion we can get going.

What is important also...if you pressure your opponents who roll in the ground, you need to usw 2B+K. 2B+K, 2K and 11K are basically everything she has in those situations. Thats by far her weakest point. So dont forget about 2B+K :)

Well, Yoshi's my regular training partner. I know him very well. I'll try to get a cam recorder or someone to get vids.
Btw, in your previous post you asked why we didn't have a Setsuka MU thread. We had. Nobody cared. Tried to get it running and interesting. It died. Last answer of the MU thread is ... me June 2009.

About 1B:B, I love it too. But sometimes it is counterproductive to use it. You need to slow down on doing that move and think : what other things could I do which would work better ? Here you could have done with less 1B:B on wakes up. But it's still a very good move.
About 33B : I love it too. But try 236~3B. With a delay. It has built it tracking properties because of the delay. <3 it even more ;)
3B is a very good move overall. Very underated one but it has very good 1) Pushback 2) Range 3) Spacing uses 4) SG damage 5) built in tracking. You really need to use it in your game. It has very good uses against some characters, including Sophitia, Astaroth and Ivy. Btw, 3B into umbrella is an air combo depending when the 3B hits. 214K into umbrella is an easy air combo, but 3B into umbrella is even better, because even when you get your 3B blocked, you have so many things to do. And it hurts the SG.

About WS B after 2A. You didn't catch what I meant.
2A (blocked) into WS B is a solid string to prevent them from attacking at disadvantage. But 2A (blocked) into 33B is even better. Because now even if they only duck you'll get NH damage.

I've lost count of how many times this happens after a tournament. Dudes giving advice in a soul arena after losing to me. lollllllll

I get critiqued after every tournament and casual session - it's part of how I improve. But, if you think I lost to you in the tournament because of anything other than nerves, you can either refer to the way I perform outside of tournaments against...just about everybody (to include you) or we can go ahead and do a $200 ft10 at NEC. Know you're trying to troll and you're happy you beat me in the tournament after I beat you in Winner's and that 17-2, but you need to realize that I don't get angry at the people who beat me - I get angry at myself and reflect on why I lost. So, yeah, either take your win and run with it or go ahead and put up at NEC.

Other than that, I never even knew a matchup thread ever existed for the Sets SA and I don't think a good deal of people knew (Doc and Trace have been asking about matchups). Guess it's a bit late in the game's life for in-depth analysis but we've definitely gotta keep something together once Sets or her replacement rolls around.

You knew, you just forgot btw. I remember a Kilik vs Setsuka thread of yours when you start like " I know a MU thread exist but blablabla"...

Don't let the trolls prevent you from discussing Setsuka, here, we had a thing going, nearly the interesting MU thread I had in mind for the Sets Arena long times ago... I know he beats you, I know he's a jerk for rubbing into your nose here, but who cares? Don't let the interest die.

Ur a scrub, and I can beat you any day of the week (except for wednesday 'cause that's when I play bingo).

Remember that time u accused me of translating your french words on google because I thought u said my hwang was disgustingly boring? Well, you were right. I did use google. But u know what? google+ is out now, and I'm not adding you as a friend. So hah.

U shouldn't be giving advice on setsuka when u lost to thugish at cannes. I've literally beat that guy dozens of times in tournaments. you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

I'm 5'11".

Yeah...must've forgotten. And, yeah, I don't let people get to me. Seriously, I take every chance I can to reflect on my own game. I honestly wish I could play against myself just so I could understand my mindset and what I excel at and what gives me problems. Either way, are you going to be around come Sc5? Also, what happened to Angrel-San? Lots of people I remember posting here must've found something better to do in their free time.

Either way, come SC5, I'm going to be hitting Sets (or her replacement's) SA pretty hard...along with everyone else's. I generally don't like talking about matchups when I don't feel like I've went through every possible approach (the Kilik thing was an exception due to frustration. FYI, I no longer have problems with Kilik but DO believe it is possibly the strongest character in the game...IF you don't understand how he plays). Still, once it rolls around, we should all chronicle our thoughts, findings, beliefs about the new Sets (if we're playing her/him) so that we can learn faster from each other's mistakes and start a new REIGN OF TERROR!!! Mwuahahahaha!

Oh yeah! I was going to note how it's kinda cool how it seems we all approach Sets pretty differently even though her movelist isn't even that big. Bring this up because Thugish claims Trace and I have a similar style. =P
