Is Dampierre for CE pre-orders or all pre-orders? THe news bit isn't really clear.
That said, if his play and looks is as updated as people say it is (haven't done BD), I would say it gives a decent chance for CAS weapon styles.

One random note, that ingame model of Dampierre looks identical to a render Namco released of him back in 2009. It's very possible they made sure he was also playable on 360/PS3 when making him for SC:BD. If that's the case, it makes a lot of sense why they're adding him to SC5, since he's content which was completely or almost finished in 2009 for 360/PS3 but not released.

I wouldn't worry. Odds are the use of his gun/crossbow will be used in throw animations, whether they're his regular throws, command throws or attack throws.
Either that, or something akin to Cervy's unblockable.

Source is he's a DLC character, IE, the game is going to launch, and people will play the game and many of them will not have him, but still want to enjoy a semi-coherent plot. Plus he hasn't changed an ounce appearance-wise from Broken Destiny.
Obviously they could add some semblance of story relevance in with his DLC, but overall he won't affect the plot. So perhaps non-canonical was the wrong term to use. If he has a story, and it is in fact treated as canonical truth, he will still not be important to the games plot.

that's neither source nor evidence. that's mere speculation. there might be plot holes to be filled by DLC characters and side storyline. as we know nothing about the overall plot, really, it's a bit early to state that certain characters are oh so unimportant, don't you think...
BTW: i never noticed, but Dampierre's outfit obviously has a frog animal theme. his punch blades are frogs, too, along with his necklace (and his crown pointing towards the frog king)...

It doesn't look like there will be anyone else. If there was another guest character they would probably be on the cover with him.

He's in the cover but don't go on "WAAAA I'M VADER FROM STAR WARS! WATCH ME! I GOT LIGHTSABER TOO!" mode to steal the scene
He's here, he's marketing but still don't interfere with SC atmosphere (and imho add awesomeness :D)
