Soul Cal 4 for the arcade?

That's what I thought...

Meh, somehow I think that I shouldn't have given any personal example, but I couldn't find a good way to just ask "why do you think arcades are too dead for Bamco to release SCIV arcades?"...

I think the answer you're looking for is because we live in a fast food culture.
People are lazy, and they want it now.
If the general populous are average at best at SC, and have a console copy, why the fuck would they go find arcades?

I've met enough folk through SC online who aren't interested in the slightest of trying to become better at the game or to find competition.

Most of my 'friends' suck at games, and when it comes to fighters they especially turn bitch, because it's all fun until they feel the saddening futility of defeat...and because of that, instead of applying themselves - would much rather give up.

SO why would people who spent money a game, go and put money into the same game and get beats?

Is that what you mean?

Pretty much.
I already have a hard time getting my friend to play SCIV online with me, because he doesn't take the time to go in practice mode much and feels discouraged whenever he gets beaten by spammers online.

But another reason why I asked is that there HAS to be a reason why fighter arcades are dying.
And if we can point the finger on the reason, then maybe there's a solution.

Someone talked about fighter games becoming pointlessly complex, discouraging people and dividing us.
So game developers could work on that...
But maybe there's something that the non-developers can do as well.

The division starts when people consistently lose.

As for going into practice mode - so not necessary.
Only for intricacies and moves you won't normally find or use by random means...
but only chars i've touched in training were Tira, Sets and X.
I just play random matches now online and starting to understand others moves by simply playing. Hell, I've had a real blast with Raph recently

Why do people go to bars and clubs? You can stay home and drink at your own pace for less money! Plus you can make any drink they can make at a bar at your home. I don't understand why people would want to go out and drink.

The argument ended here.

I guess you should go say that to all the people who used to go to arcades and stopped, then.
I'm sure that the reason why fighter arcades are dying is because they all just somehow forgot that arcades are like a bar.

Yeah, in fact, reading SF4 notation now makes me cringe. When I'm asking 8WR players how to do a move in SF4 I actually breathe a sigh of relief when they give me it in SC4-language.

I dont reaqlly get making an Arcade SC AFTER a console SC. It seems proven that Arcade 1st=more balanced console game. If their is an arcade edition what would you guys change about it?? One thing off the top of my head is make Setska more powerful OR remove her completely. I hear unless you nail some just with her everytime she is no good. So yeh either option would make me happy. Oh and slow down 2kb

hearsay is not good evidence

fair enough. When i have fought her she seems very underpowered online and offline. When i took her through practice i found her movelist to lack any real punch. But thats just me

It's mostly in the frame data.
Setsuka can pull strong attacks quickly, which makes her a good punisher and also helps her pressure game.
She also has good enough tools to break free from opponent pressure.
She's very hard to block-punish.

...And if she manages to sidestep your attack, there are good chances that you're giving her a free 86 damage.

Edit: The bad side is that, as I like to say, she gets nothing for free, unlike most of the other characters.
If you did something useful, it's because you worked your ass off to do it. Luck will almost never help you.
Which might be why most Setsuka users don't look that good.
It's easier to look like a good player with nearly anyone else...

Not enough HC players these days.. like when fighting games were basicly new they were huge then it has been going downhill from there. Young guys aren't stepping up. THat's why you'll mostly see 20-30 year old people at tournaments these days.

Unless it SSBB. Thats why we do SSBB tourys with our other tournys and now we're seeing younger people enter tournys again.

LOL, I'm probably the only 16 year old who would rather see Darth Vader beat up Cervantes than see Mario beat up Pikachu.

And while we're at it... Nightmare for SSB 4!

NM in SSB4?? That tempts me to start a Lameass thread titled "Which Single SC character should appear in SSC4". Seigfreid is the protagonist and Nm is the Antagonist of SC so maybe one of them. Voldo and Ivy are prolly a little too sexually themed... Mitsa maybe? he has been in every game thus far but so has Taki and Cervy and a few others.... choices choices

What do you mean no money in American arcades? I spent money there last weekend. I goto my local arcade nearly every weekend spending $20-$40. If you think American arcades are dead you've been reading the wrong funny papers.

You could buy 1 or 2 brand new games with that kind of cash a month. Or, in two months time for that sort of cash, you could buy two arcade sticks and bring the fun home.

Arcade are fun and all, but they're a huge waste of money, in my opinion. To each their own, but personally I think there's better ways to spend that money. With online gaming, a good game library and friends I don't need to go to the arcade. They really are a thing of the past.

The only reason I want SCIV in the arcade is for rebalancing and possibly more levels.

I'm 14. Beat you. On that note... SSBB is godawful. Terrible. You know, nintendo were quoted as saying they tried to make to make it more fun or everyone by taking out the skill.

Also... I have the same problem among my friends. I have one good friend whose excellent at SSB64 (we play it at school), he doesn't block but uses invincibility frames in moves to null your attacks, but he's intimidated by the execution of fighting games in general. He goes on about how smash bros is much better, with its like, a dozen moves. SC execution isn't that bad. Most character's JFs are unnecessarily or mashable.

I am an undying proponent of the arcade, but $40 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend there in a week. The real ideal is to spend maybe $5 or $10 a week, play many kinds of games, many of which use hardware that can't be practically reproduced at home like full-cockpit driving games, peculiar music movement games, large-screen large-gun games, possibly with an additional screen inside the scope, or what have you.

To simplify: Arcades are for specialty controls, premium-grade hardware, a superior level of competition, and a particular kind of focused, hardcore, 100% voluntary enthusiasm. Home/portable gaming is for purity of experience within single games, superior comfort, selecting niche titles for your particular tastes, playing with close friends at great convenience, playing with distant friends via the Internet, and playing games that take a very, very long time or have a very relaxed attitude.

You would have to be a jackass to deny the following: Both environments have games/genres to which they are better suited. Both environments are part of the total gamer culture, and to exalt one and deny the other is ignorance. Ignorance may be bliss, but it's also a root of all evil.
