8WayRun Fanfiction: The Writer's Block

That is for you to find out. ;)

Oh god, I just ruined it for people who haven't read The Hunger Games! Ahh! Must Fix!

EDIT: Fixed

Okay, here's an idea, and it would be awesome to see what you guys come up with. You've all likely dabbled in this already, and writing them is quite a bit of fun.

Write a story, in six words.

I'll use the one Ernest Hemingway wrote, and where the six-word-story originated. His story:
Hemingway said:
For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

What is this Hunger Games thing? Why is it so popular? A co-worker tried to explain the story to me on a smoke break. It sounded completely bizarre.

And then she said it's being made into a movie.

My first thought was: Jesus. I need to sit down and write a post-apocalyptic teen fantasy romance screenplay with the most ridiculous premise imaginable. I'll make millions!

I'm sorry if your a fan. And I'll admit, I've yet to read the thing. It just sounds terrible.

Lies. Well, by killing each other, yes that's terrible, but not the whole plot. It's about kids having to fight to the death in an arena for those who are viewing entertainment. It's about a girl hasn't discovered herself yet and a boy who loves her trying to figure out a way to survive in a cruel, unjust world. Typically, it's almost like slavery. The capital (Owners) lived in luxury while the districts (Slaves) have to work for the capital and live in poverty. The Hunger Games is supposed to inspire you to learn that you should speak your mind and that when something is unjust, rebel.

Maybe your co-worker didn't explain it that good, I don't know! >,< I think you should read it before saying it's terrible. It may seem that way, but never judge a book by it's cover. ;)

XD I guess my rants over. lol

It's not bad, and a really quick/easy read.

I really reallly reaaaallyy hope they don't go the Twilight-esque route with the relationship bits.

Yeah, doesn't sound like my thing.

I guess I'm in no position to judge though. I enjoy stuff like The Black Company. And Conan. :P

It broke my heart when Conan tanked in the box office. I guess that old-fashioned blood, guts and T&A style is leaving fantasy.

But it does sort of reveal a change in the demographic of fantasy readers, doesn't it? Things like Twilight are the cash cows now. And their fandoms are predominantly female. Which generally means that more females are getting into fantasy and sci-fi, so I guess it isn't all bad.

You should read A Game of Thrones, and The Gardens of the Moon. There's not really a change in the demographic, the two you mentioned are targeted a junior high and high schoolers.

And Stephanie Myer is a complete and total hack.

waiting in the airport; so boring

:P If you like (and have the available funding) you could call us and never have to wait for your flight.

As a fan of high-fantasy, I really don't mind. Though Conan, I wanted it to do well, only for that actor Jason Mormont, or whatever his name was only because he was in Game of Thrones (HBO TV series)

For those who want to see a good adolescent relationship-y vampire film, 'Let the Right One In' will make you forget about Twilight for a while. Well done characters, atmospheric, and extraordinarily violent.

I've heard about it. It sounds great.

It is! It's Very good! And Spartacus.

------------ EDIT ----------------------

Here is a short-short from the projects my cousin has me doing. It's about the first-person perspective. Expect more shorts to come tomorrow

I am a lot of things, but mostly, I am a bully. I can be mean spirited, cruel, or even haunting should I choose to, and I often choose to. You may feel alone, distraught, or depressed at my very whim. By the same token, I can decide to make you happy. I can leave you with a sense of elation or accomplishment if I feel like it. Whatever I do though is my choice, and yours as well; however unwilling you may be. You may keep your apprehensions, and keep them to yourself.

Do not take me for a fool though. I am a god, and when you enter my world you play by my rules. Oh you can cherish your opinions but your actions I control. What I do, you do. When I act, you act beside me. You may disagree, even abhor what I do, but you come join in all the same.

I am the one who holds the power here. Scoff all you will, but you are following my every wish. Shall we go for a walk down a quiet cobblestone lane? There is no need to reply, you can do naught but say 'yes.' Peaceful isn't it? Now where should we hide the body of the girl? You don't remember? You were there. Such a shame.

Oh how I have you! Don't think to look at me like that, you can take a joke right? Relax. Sit down. My world is your world now. Make yourself at home, I insist. Now do you see the power I hold?

I grasp the pot and walk from the fireplace; embers fading and turning to ash and filling the room with such a rich aroma. Would you like some tea? Do you see the game I play? Look around, gaze upon the Cézanne perched above the crackling hearth. Such an easy one to hold, you are.

Now come along, I have much to do.

I'm contemplating on wether I should read The Hunger Games before the movie comes. At first when I heard about it (me being slightly hipster) I didn't like the sound of it and pretty much said that it was an American version to Battle Royale (Read THAT one. If anyone is interested I'll give you a description) But all of the hype for it has made me look into it further. It does seem like it's on a different level of developement. And I do believe in giving things a chance. Books anyway. I gave Twilight a chance. Read half of the book and suddenly wanted to kill all the fangirls in my school (we were in middle school at the time) So I think I can give this one a chance too. I wonder how far I'd read before I have a conclusion.

I think you should read the book first. IMO most books are better than the movie. But I also think you should read it so you could have a better understanding of the hunger games universe.

Lol I've never read battle royale but I've read the description. HG and BR differ because even though they're still killing each other, in the HG, there's no mercy. Those kids barely know each other and some of them would kill for fun. BR I'd suspect because they've known each other for years, they'd be afraid, or hold back, to kill each other.

Japan made a movie adaption for Battle Royale. It's great too and I reccomend watching that to the highest degree! I feel there would be more mercy in the Hunger Games. Well, I'll get them soon and find out for myself. =P

No way! BR would have more mercy than HG! lol But this is a discussion for another thread. lol

Updated.

Edit: Here's a sample of Ch. 5. Tell me what you guys think.

Viola’s morning was terrible. Pyyrah had knocked on the door dressed in her night gown. Surprisingly, this led to a chain of disastrous events. When Viola had heard the knock, she awoke.
What she saw was a raven standing on her chest and staring at her.
She screamed at this sight. She screamed at the top of her lungs and leaped out of bed.
The raven gave a high pitched scream and flew, broke, out of a window and flew back in.
This caused Zwei, who was still in bed, to start screaming at the top of his lungs, along with Pyyrah. So now they were all screaming.
Zwei fell off the bed and hit his head on the floor with a sickening thud. He slipped out of consciousness and somehow, he sank through the floor. Viola was batting at the raven while screaming.
Pyyrah, watching this started to back away, but slipped on a raven feather and fell over the railing, plummeting from the third floor to the first.
Viola, on the other hand, fell out of the window. The window started from the floor, to a little over Viola’s height. It would’ve been a beautiful window; it was stain glass, if Viola hadn’t crashed through it.
She also plummeted down to the ground, only seeing flashes of lush green and brown, and then darkness.
When she hit the concrete, she slipped in and out of consciousness. Then, before she finally gave in, she saw a cruel smile and the shape of a jester’s hat hovering over her…….
