Can someone here read info on game disks?

Somebody will probably do it without even having to be asked. Isn't that how everyone found out Vader was on the 360 disk and Yoda on PS3 back when PS was denying that they'd be cross platform DLCs?

That will be awesome Luneth! Best of luck to you and we will all be eagerly awaiting your findings. But please, take your time. Enjoy the game first, then see if you can find out anything.

Hotaru, I am not sure, but it's definately possible that did happen! I was trying to get the ball rolling on this now just in case it hasn't come to their minds to do it yet.

Lol Enkindu, calm down! XD I was just doing as you asked, finding information as to how they extract data from the game disk - I'm really not good with such programs actually, haha...so you'll be better off finding someone else =P

Someone did this to SC4 and found that both Vader and Yoda were on the discs regardless of which version people bought, long before the unlock code was released/announced... possibly a week after release. If anything, someone will do it, just like they did then.

I've modded SC4 a whole lot, so this is something I should be able to figure out shortly after getting the game. Well, unless they drastically changed all file formats since SC4.

Considering the engine looks to be the same as SCIV, the file structure should be fairly similar (I would assume).

@Zohar, that thread is total bullshit and lies. It's a pretty obvious troll. Makes the account that day, can't take pictures or anything because he somehow "Doesn't have a camera" (I mean seriously, who doesn't have a camera... they're on everything now a days.)

On this same note, I'd be extremely interested in finding out how to rip specifically voice files from the game disk. If anyone is planning on doing that, or has the know-how but not the desire, please let me know - I'd be more than happy to whatever gruntwork there is involved with doing something like that.

this is random but for your "look at my mains in Fighting games" it seems to be incorrect. As far as I know, Dragonuv and Lee have not been confirmed for Street Fighter X tekken.

I really hope we can get the information on the disc out fast. It would benefit everyone who buys the game

Yeah, turns out it got closed, but I was really giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. It would have been just the kind of info that Enkindu was asking for, had it been legit.

Why would he take the time to make those things up about Kilik's mimics being "selectable" via predetermined button inputs? I guess trolls really do need something better to do with all that time on their hands.

Damn... my wish for Zasa to be a part of SCV's roster was almost satiated.

This game wasn't made by Capcom y'know.....
Namco is actually worse than Capcom when it comes to DLC. You can look at the marketplace for Ace Combat and Idol Master for proof. And also, as a quick reminder, SC4 had one character as DLC and 7 DLC packs with CAS items. All of those were unlock keys for stuff on the disc.

I won't expect much, but I think there's at least CAS items on the disc for SC5 which we can expect as DLC. With many signs pointing to SC5 being rushed, I think the development team was too rushed to finalize the actual game to add extra hidden content waiting for unlock keys.

I can look into that when I get the game. I was able to extract all the voices from SC4.

I ask this because in MvC3 someone was able to read the data on the disk and found out that Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine were on the disk, therefore finding out before they were actually released that they were going to be DLC characters. Is there someone on this website that is technically inclined to do this for SC5 when it comes out? If so, post up and let us know! This would be a great service.

EDIT for hever's idea:
Actually the gamestop website spilled the beans by accident on Jill and Shuma Gorath being DLC.

You might be confused with the Street Fighter 4 disk having unfinished characters on it, IIRC.

No, Vanilla MvC3 had Jill and Shuma on the disk. It was possible to change some files around and make them playable.

On topic possibly useful remark:

Make an image of the disc with a PC. There's software out there to help you do this and any PC (including Macs) can do it.

Series of games generally use the same save file/data file/bake schemes. If you have a tool that could read SCIV/3/2 data, it will probably work on V.

Barring that you do NOT have a tool like the one above (which you should, because there's an offline editor for SCIV save files - you might be able to iterate through the character number to find hints for hidden styles) then you can just trudge through the file names and other resources for possible clues. At worst, you can just try to grep through for strings that match what you are looking for. This is EXTREMELY risky because, as mentioned, IV is based on V and it's quite possible that Natsu was named Taki for half of the development and crap that legitimately belongs to Natsu says "Taki" on it. That would be the opposite of a helpful disclosure.

Adventurer beware - there have been tons of "disclosures" for characters that were in games but were never playable as they were never finished or intended to be CPU opponents. Fragments of their development are very likely to be present for things that were axed and/or a part of IV.

I may be mistaken but I think you need a special type of dvd drive if you wanna read from xbox 360 dvds. In the case of PS3, I'm not sure if it's hard to read a PS3 bluray disc to PC. Easiest solution is if you have a modded 360/PS3 as then you can use homebrew tools for copying files from disc to a harddrive.

Just to add to this, SC4's executable does have a list of strings for each character, which also happens to include a ton of left overs from SC2 and SC3 (it lists characters like Assassin, Berserker, Hwang, Li Long, Arthur and others). The only oddity being a character called "Deshi".

The file structure for SC4 is very clean with almost zero non-used assets and the majority of filenames just use numbers when referring to specific characters. So in order to gain interesting information, you'd have to convert to more useful formats. Assuming they haven't changed the formats, it'll be extremely easy to convert sound, texture and model files.
