SCV Yoshimitsu Q&A and General Discussion

^I used to do that before patch, too. I'll test these tmr when I'm more free.
Btw if you're one of those Yoshis who like to feint stuff like cancelling into grab, try to kG instead of bG. kG makes him step slightly forward, aG makes him stay on the same spot, bG causes him to make the tiniest backstep which might make your grab whiff.

I stumbled upon something interest when I fought my friend long time ago. I just seemed to remember it now.

Originally, I didn't think MED A+B can GI a Critical Edge.
It seemed that during one of my battles (my friend being Siegfriend), he tried to use a trap against me with his C.E.. I was in MED stance and GI'd Siegfried's Critical Edge (I GI'd the ice split from a bit of a distance). I won the round in awe.

I would assume that this "trick" isn't applicable to anyone else. From my knowledge, it only worked on Siegfried, but the chances of ever using MED A+B against his CE would be HIGHLY situational. Did anyone else know about this or know if it applies to anyone else?

Heaton always CEs me when I am far away and in MED so this would be hilarious if it worked 100% of the time.

TESTING
THAT
SHIT

...NOW
------

Result: if you’re already in MED, once the flash starts if you mash A+B it will catch the CE at anything but very close (sword) distance — where Yoshi eats it, even if you hit A+B just before the flash. At long-distance, Yoshi won’t head-dive close enough. But there is a decent area between very-close- and fairly-long-distance where the aGI will catch and Yoshi will land on Sieg.

However, all Sieg needs to do at any range is 8WR backwards immediately after seeing the green flash from the aGI, and Yoshi will miss. :-( SHH! Keep it a secret from Sieg players! ;-) In practice, many Sieg players might be thinking of running up to you after CE, so if they’re a beat too late in recognizing WTF just happened, you will possibly get away with this very stylish answer.

Double edit: of course, I’d rather take the damage from a missed head-dive than from Sieg’s CE ice wave. So there’s that.

Well, there is certainly the issue with range. Assuming that the trick with Siegfried still works, the question to me becomes, do I eat the CE, or miss due to range, attempt Bliss heal, and maybe get hit during my attempt?

@Gabedamien. Very nice clarifications. Let's just hope that some Siegfried players get too confused and get hit by it anyways. :)

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet (sorry if it is) but CH a:B+K, iMCF is actually character specific. iMCF whiffs vs. Pyrrha, I'll test the others later...

With skills. Try binding one of your buttons to B+K. I have my circle button (normally K, but since I have a stick I've mapped K to R1 instead) mapped as B+K, and I get it by swiping rapidly from A (square button) to B+K. The trick is just brushing A on your way to B+K, since IIRC it can only be pressed for 4 frames, and the button presses can't overlap at all.

On that note, I was making a custom Yoshi the other day, for which I switched back to my PS3 controller. In order to see that all was well, I took it into a test battle...and then remembered about my button mappings. Strangely enough, I didn't find it hard at all just to sweep my finger across from square to circle and still get a:B+K. []

goddamit does yoshi really need to use ear slicer (A:bk) to be effective? I still use yoshi but not as much as I use too and it honestly pisses me off how namco change this move to a slide input( have to remap my buttons on pad just to pull it off) or is yoshi fine without it?

I probably have a dozen matches saved where I won by Random Sieg CE vs. Footclap of Doom from probably 4+ character spaces. Most of the time, people are too shocked to figure out what's happening and try to catch Yoshimitsu. If you're near a wall the camera will swivel and cause them to run into the unblockable. Good times....

I have never managed to get this to work against Nightmare (I've tried so many times....) but I guess I just get the timing wrong / it isn't possible. Never pulled it off against Xiba but I'm pretty sure my timing is wrong. You can catch Cervantes' bullets, but it won't do the revenge part at range and it's kind of really hard....

You can A+K a fellow Yoshimitsu's CE.

How the fuck do you get earsplitter? lool

There's a video from Furzy here that shows unmapped a:B+K. That's how I do it. Online it's uh... not the best as it seems you lose inputs or something stupid on 4 bars or below. It actually does work better if you use a mapped B+K rather than standard A, B, K buttons.

You can probably manage without ear slicer, but you'll be missing out on a lot of damage and a good interrupt tool. iMCF is low range, jumpable, etc where ear slicer really fills that gap.

No idea, but I've done it more than once.

There are also funky standing frames in SCV. They were in... well, they are in all SCs I think... For example, you can be thrown out of 214A which is TC. FC 3K can be beaten with a throw, too. The standing frames are kind of wtf.

Maybe that CE has some weird standing frame that allows you to counter hit it with A+K.

I tried Xiba and Nightmare too for like 30 minutes. Don't work. And I've actually been caught red-handed by Natsus who just B+K B+G me in response. And uh, check out the last part of the vid.

lol...I'll bet elysium's ce would hit you too...

so this might also fall under the control scheme thread, but mostly it's just me griping: being tired of having MED come out if my input for iMCF (using the button I bound to B+K for ear slicer) was off, I spent about two hours reteaching myself to do a:B+K the good old-fashioned way. I have R1 set to K so that, on my stick, it's right next to B. I found that with a bit of practice, it's really not as difficult as I'd thought. I can now do it almost as reliably as the other way, and I intend to keep practicing. As for iMCF, for whatever reason, be it he shorter frame window or what have you, I can't do it as easily as I want with the default mapping. Thus, the button I formerly had as B+K (circle) is now a second B. Gruh, but my fingers ache now...being left-handed, I have to do button inputs with my bad hand. Yay for all those months of playing Rock Band on Expert...[]
