[May 2, 2012] Soul Calibur 5 Online Tournament (PSN)

Spring is a big Season for fighting games here at MLG. The Fighter Arena on Saturday, April 28 will feature Soul Calibur V and Mortal Kombat, and both games will also be played, along with King of Fighters XIII, at the Spring Championship. Now, thanks to PlayStation®, Soul Calibur V and Mortal Kombat competitions will also be taking place on GameBattles all Season long.

The Soul Calibur V and Mortal Kombat Online Tournaments, Powered by PlayStation® will give you the chance to hone your skills for the Spring Championship, and win prize money in the process. They're free to enter, anyone can participate, and you can compete in both games with the chance to take home $5,000! Registration is open now; sign up and show everyone what you've got!

$5,000 total is on the line for each tournament:

• 1st Place: $2,500
• 2nd Place: $1,500
• 3rd Place: $750
• 4th Place: $250

Competition Format and Schedule

The format for both tournaments will be a 1v1 ladder which leads into a 32-player double elimination bracket. Both games will be played on PS3.

• April 27 at noon ET: Registration opens
• May 2: Ladder play begins
• May 29, 9pm ET: Registration closes
• May 30, 9pm ET: Ladder play ends, and Bracket play begins
• June 2, 12pm ET: Bracket play begins

What countries can participate?

This is open only to U.S. residents (Sorry Canada)

What happens if the match is laggy?

You should replay the match using a new host. If that doesnt work attempt to reconnect until you have a stable enviroment. If you cant, put in a ticket and have the match negated. If it happens in the bracket stage, you can try the new host again but ultimately will have to play it out.

Color Edits on Default Characters? Those are O.K as long as they don't serve as something that no longer makes the characters appear how they should normally in the game. Faces should be visible and nothing else that would obstruct the characters identity should be added. This means no hoods, masks, face paint, horns etc.

Create a Soul Characters?

No

Will this count for seeding or invitation to MLG Anaheim?

No. Although anyone that wins or participates is able to sign up for MLG Anaheim. Personally my opinion is no player that wins an online tournament should be seeded in an offline one.

 

Has this started yet?

Edit: Apparently, we can't start until 9pm EST. Why does this thread say 12:00pm EST then?

How do ladder matches work? Are we going to receive a message or something? I have work today, and I won't be home to late - am I going to miss my match?

 

I don't know if this is right, but I clicked on the "match finder" tab, or there's a link that says "find a match" over on the right. Then on the next page do "create a challenge on the match finder." Enter the info, and schedule the time.

Then I guess someone will accept the match, or something? And then you play them and report the scores?

This website is ultimately confusing.

 

Ya i believe you have to find you own matches actively for the Ladder period.

I searched and found a couple and accepted them since they fit in times i can play.
Then i saw that you can create your own making so that you're the one being found.

 

I tried creating a match for within the next 15 mins and it gives me this error message:

Please correct the following errors:

• You cannot post challenges outside the current ladder season play dates. Challenges are valid between 2012-05-02 09:00:00 and 2012-05-30 09:00:00

My match time meets that criteria so I'm not sure what's going on.

 

Ive recieved a challenge and accepted already, it says its scheduled for tonight at 7pst

Damn, I thought that 09:00:00 meant 9:00am. Oh well. I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to play.

i registered with MLG about three days ago and they still havent sent an activation link to my email.

I can't even sign up for this thing because whenever I try to link a PSN handle to my team (which is required to make a team) it says PSN is undergoing maintenance. It's been like that for 2 days now. Is it going to be too late to register for this?

 

The UI is just plain clunky and bad. I got a couple of things scheduled, but the hassle involved has already kinda put me off of the entire thing.

 

When is the last day to register for this?

 

Registration closes May 29th. However, that won't give you much time to get into top 32.

I agree, registration was troublesome. Hope reporting the results and uploading proof will be less hassle.

 

I just realized, can we play the same person within this ladder time frame, do we know?
It is random yes but if they don't remove people we already have or had matches with than people can easily break this system since it's Points Based.

Just have a friend register at certain times and just beat him over and over.......

 

You can't play the same person within 12 hours. I was trying to register for matches, and, even though it's blind selection, it didn't let me pick one of the challenges because I have another match scheduled with the same person.

 

That's good to know, you can still play a person within a days time but you can't spam it.
