Belief is the cornerstone of ALL societies in the world. To dismiss belief is to dismiss what makes us tick.

Oh wait... you do believe in something.

I'm not dismissing my belief, I'm stating to have peace in the world we should dismiss our beliefs in public. All develop countries are trying to follow this plan, this is why we separated Church and State.

I thought I was Agnostic.... after reading terminators comments and browsing over the Christian thread I think I am more inclined to be an Atheist.

Well religion isn't for everyone, some people just can't believe something without it being proven. It took me a long time before becoming a Christian in my own terms. Atheist think we blindly follow a priest or a preacher but some believers like me study both sides and make a decision. The bible was my guide. The new testament is just amazing, Jesus most have been an amazing guy :)

And is also why separating Church and State is impossible.

A society comes together when people have a shared set of beliefs. Some of these same beliefs also are integrated in... you guessed it... religion.

So we can SAY we have separated Church from State, but doing it means going into a shitload of grey, which in democracy isn't a good thing - as a people, we sometimes mistake majority rule for unanimous rule.

So the main religion of a country has a huge influence in the going ons of the country.

I never thought I'd ever get to use this word in an actual sentence, but wow, people are discussing antidisestablishmentarianism.

Well to me you seem brainwashed, Typical Atheist always criticize the church... The Church is nothing. Becoming an atheist because you don't like what the church is doing is just stupid. Like Jesus said your religion should be between you and your God XD. Btw a lot of stuff in the bible have been proven... all the kings of the old testament are real... the great temple that the Jewish had build is still here( what's left of it ). Pontius Pilate the one who had condemned Jesus is still in old roman archives... And you didn't understand the story of Job XD. Well most Atheist don't fully understand the bible, I was exactly like you before it takes some smart thinking to understand it. And you know what's funny even Jesus warned us about fake preachers who doing evil.
1. the church has set itself up to be God's official representative on earth; it's not "nothing", at least not to christians, nor to anybody who suffers from its policies. and btw if christianity was run Jesus' way there would be no churches, as He said to "pray alone in a dark closet, not loudly in the synagogues as the hypocrites do". "religion should be between yourself and your God"? LOL...you are just voicing the opinion of every non-christian in the world, we are all in agreement with you; it's your fellow christians who tend to think otherwise. and please get your labels correct; i am not an atheist. i'm a guy with some serious doubts and questions.

2. even a broken clock is right twice a day. the bible is a strange blend of fact, opinion, fiction, and hallucination; definitely not to be taken literally. it's wrong about small things like: people living 900 years, the earth being only a few thousand years old, the earth's species magically being created in 6 days, woman being created from a rib of a man, and every species on earth being hoisted into a small boat.

3. it is YOU who doesn't understand Job. here's the plot in a nutshell: god is sitting in heaven admiring his faithful follower job. satan spies him doing this and sashays right up to him (nevermind that satan is supposed to be imprisoned in hell and banished from heaven; apparently he can simply enter the Kingdom and get face-time with god at will) and tricks god into allowing satan to do anything he wants to job, short of killing him. why does god allow this? to prove a point to satan, because apparently the creator of the universe feels a need to explain himself to his the prince of darkness. so we have satan, hating job for his piety and goodness, and he just hoodwinked the omnipotent master of the universe into letting him unjustly torment a pure soul. once satisfied with the carnage wrought upon job, satan turns to god, shrugs his shoulders, and says "heaven's to betsy, you were right! he IS loyal! silly me! i'll just be on my way now". and god sits there with an empty peter griffin-like expression and says "derp...told ya so!".

4. "i was exactly like you...it takes some smart thinking to understand it"... :D now there's some typical christian pretentiousness for ya! you don'e know me, have never met me, but you somehow know me and how i think. and it doesn't take smart thinking to understand it...it takes gross ignorance and a childlike belief in fairy tales to do so. a talking snake? a giant? whales (or great fish) swallowing people and puking them out after 3 days? (3 days, hmmm....why does that sound familiar?) people being turned into pillars of salt? okayyyyyyy.....

5. yes, fake preachers doing evil...seems to describe 99.9% of 'em. i am very distrustful of ANYBODY who claims they heard God talk to them and tell them to speak for Him. if you hear voices commanding you to babble about the supernatural, you're not "chosen", you are schizophrenic. and you need help, not pledges, donations, or tax shelters. but i guess i'm preaching to the choir now...

Well Peachy0, your probably the most intellectual person who has answered me today your reasons are all valid but the story of Job is to show followers that even the mos righteous man can be put in trial by God. God knew that Job would never curse him because a good man of God accepts both suffering and happiness from him. God puts a lot of trials in a persons life, even Jesus himself was put on trial by the devil because God himself permitted. But everything you said is right, those pastors on TV that tell people to plant seed of life or something by donating are just Crazy LoL.

I don't understand the point of this thread anymore...

<----------------- THEY ARE TRAUMATIZING THIS CHILD!!!

BOTH THREADS ARE....

Note: the reason why i didnt make a thread concerning religion AND EVERY MEMBER'S VIEW ON IT was because there are too many specific approachs and views regarding a religion or teaching

IT IS BOUND TO BE A SHIT STORM.......

then a giant schism :D YAY FOR SCHISMS

thank you. i do respect your beliefs, btw... nothing personal. i hope they bring you comfort and strength.

Faith comes from man.

Our entire world is built on faith.

Our thoughts are built on faith (every thought and we have goes through the emotional parts of the brain before going to the logical parts. It's NEVER the other way round).

Faith is about emotions. Humans are primarily emotional creatures. Therefore faith will always be here.

The debates about what is Christian and what is un-Christian, what is religious and what is un-religious is futile. It is belief that runs this world. Everybody believes in something. The core value of morals is belief.

Wait... what was the point of this thread?
WHERE DO YOU STAND ON THIS GOD ISSUE? DO YOU SUBSCRIBE TO RELIGION OR YOUR OWN BELIEFS?

EDIT: NEVERMIND. YOU SEEMED TO IMPLY EARLIER THAT YOU THINK THERE IS A HIGHER POWER.

I don't understand the point of this thread anymore...

This may help clear things up:

I have a question~ I hope it can be answered...and I hope you all are not offended.

-Why did you people decide to become an Atheist/Agnostic/Theist?
-If you found out God was real when you died, what would you do?
-Do you hate God/Jesus, or against the whole corrupt idea of religion?
- Do you hate/dislike people who have a belief in God?
-Lastly, what do you think of Jesus?

Just to let you all know Im not trying to provoke! Im just curious in your responses. I hope Im not offending in any way and if you perfer not to answer I will respect that. m(_ _ m)

1. I was raised Southern Baptist. Well, the folks tried to raise me Southern Baptist. But, as my brain developed and I acquired knowledge - that knowledge developed into the understanding of logic. The more I understood logic and asked logical questions the less Pastor's and fellow Church members wanted to interact with me. By 1st or 2nd grade I pretty much had the sense that everybody was really just making shit up as they go along. The lack of wanting to provide solid answers to a young and curious mind frustrated me. The fact that when answers weren't provided I would be guilted for not having faith frustrated me. One of the first things I was curious about was creation really. If God wasn't created, and "just happened" then why couldn't the universe "just happen". I mean, if something so all powerful and great as a God can just self manifest, why couldn't something less powerful and great self manifest?

2. Do you mean if I died and the Christian God was real? That would be a bummer really. I'd prefer to answer to a higher being that's a little more humane. Burning for an eternity over not believing in a book that was written when we thought the world was flat and witches could cast spells seems a little harsh to me. But, if he's going to be an ass hole - he might as well be the ultimate ass hole.

3. Hating something that to me does not exist would be a real waste of energy.

4. Not if they can accept that they've made a personal choice. But most Christians still take flu shots despite not believing in Evolution. So, it's hard to respect someone who tries to have it both ways. (The Evolution of a flu viruses is very fast so scientists have to understand evolution enough to project the evolutionary path a flu or virus will take. Because vaccines take a while to produce and distribute - vaccines that are made today are for what form a virus will be in in six or so months). I'd have less of a problem if religious people didn't jump in line behind science just when it's convenient. I'd prefer it if they could at least be scientifically object. And if they knew their faith couldn't allow them to be objective, I'd respect them a lot more if they would recuse themselves from research at least.

5. Jesus/Robin Hood/ and any other benevolent defender and aid to the common man has probably had their stories told and retold so many times that it's more or less developed into folklore. Like Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyan. It's kind of like movies "based on a true story". Usually, events have been changed and dramatized for good story telling so much that very little of the story is actually factual.

THE HUMAN BRAIN IS PRETTY AWESOME, YOU GOTTA ADMIT.
The awesomeness of the human brain is irrelevant in countering how shitty the world we live in is. If hell exists it's here on Earth. Now you can have an optimistic view on the world, which is awesome because internally you have a good attitude concerning the suffering around you. However, the rest of the humanity is suffering.

We have momentarily pleasures. And sometimes we have these small glimpses into happiness. But the majority of people in the world are suffering. Even if you personally have this great prospective on the world, that's not reality.

I mean even those that are fortunate, to leave in a peaceful country, or the rich. Still have relationship problems, depression, disease, fears...and if you're not the problem then it's your relationships. Your spouse cheating on you, your new born baby with medical handicaps....and so on and so forth.

Oh we do a damn good job attempting to distract ourselves from this truth. Drinking, drugs, smoking, sex, video games, love...whatever. We do a lot to escape the reality of how shitty the world is.

Since before religion man has believed in God/gods. And hundreds of years after we die man will continue to do the same.
