Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

You need casuals and new players to come to tournaments... .

This is very true, but to be fair, it is really hard to get casuals to come to tournaments, because the thought of going to tourneys can be quite intimidating. The general mindset is "Why bother going to a tourney if I'm just going to lose"? Casuals need to be eased into Fighting Games and gradually brought to a level where they feel "confident" enough to attend a tournament and participate. I've gone to tournaments because I don't really care if I get my ass kicked as long as I get to laugh at myself when I rewatch my major fails on stream. I doubt that most people would think the same way.

Getting new people to join the FGC is an even greater challenge. Majority of the FG's played now competitively are based around series that have been around since the 90's. Even DOA dates back to the mid-90's. People have been playing these games for years. How does a newcomer feel about that? How does a newcomer compete with those kind of people? FG's aren't a team sport, we compete with one another in order to secure victory. Although we do also develop friendships with the people we play with regularly.

The best we can do to encourage newcomers is to actively support our FG's, such as DOA5, as much as possible to generate attention. I'm trying to see if I can get more DOA players to join my local scene.

BLOOMERS FOR EVERYBODY!

Mila getting a bunny outfit? definitely doesn't suit her at all. but the school uniform bit is pretty snazzy. but will other people be able to see the outfits if they haven't bought them as well?

SO. MUCH. SIDEBOOB. O_O

So all the girls are getting gym outfits. This pleases me. Is this out already or are we still waiting for it?

Doesn't seem to be so. Just Kasumi, Ayane, Kokoro, and Hitomi. This also applies to the school uniform set. Damn.

Is it just me who has yet to find a way to justify dropping $5 on even one of these? Mila in a Hitomi knockoff just doesn't do it for me, in a bunny bikini even less so, and all of Ayane/Kasumi's good costumes were in the game already. All I really have left is Rig, and he just looks weird in Jann Lee's knock-off. Well, he just looks weird period, but still.

I think to add to that the game design aspect of making new comers learn to play even closer towards a competititve level player is still distant.

I mean sure you got the competititve community but there are ppl who just play w/o bothering with online forums. DOA 5 in particular has a training mode session though maybe not as robust as VF4's training mode as some ppl would say I think the training mode even if it is perfected so many times, learning from it alone wouldn't suffice to become much more closer to a competitive players level.

There's also the AI to consider with their nearly god-like predictions but with patterns that they cannot learn to adapt from. Even if you have an AI that behaves human-like they don't adapt.

Story construction could've been better just like Mortal Komboat 9 you start off with characters you don't know about and you just randomly mash buttons if players can be interupted with a dialogue or some sort that tells not only how to execute but to perform certain movesets in certain situations I think newcomers will come to understand better.

So I think game design for fighting games aren't perfect but they could've been better to get newcomers close to what competitive players play.
