Lost Swords

How successful was Tekken Revolution? Anybody know? :(

Surpassed over a million downloads (and counting), of course the community is slightly divided on it due to the mechanics, however Namco are still milking that money from those huge breast milk banks, it's going steady with near regular updates and campaigns.

I assume characters (or a portion of them) that made SCV will be in SC:LS perhaps with a fan vote as to which character they'd like to see that didn't make the roster.

We'll see anyway.

Hopefully this is handled better than Tekken Revolution. Having to pay for "arcade quarters" to play is not a good free to play model. And Tekken Revolution mostly feels like a cut down version of TTT2. But this could be good, if handled properly. I'll give it a try at the very least.

Could you be more specific about the washdowned part ? I have not played tekken revolution and I'm just seeing what to expect.

Worse graphics ? Missing game mechanics ? Roster obviously not all there. Ie SC5 with no edge meter ?

I don´t get it, What about Xbox 360? Is this a joke?
Cuz its all about that PS Triple. Also tekken revolution wasn't bad, it looked just like TTT2. Its just that with no training mode I couldn't get any better and so I would be nothing but a masher.

What exactly are free to play games, anyway? Okay, so you download them off PSN, XBL and play them for free? How do the devs profit from that at all? And would it be a new game or an version of SC5 with the old vets?
What you download is basically a demo that lets you play the game with a few characters (Mistu and Siegfried in this case). There's many ways of monetizing this once you hook the player:
  • Selling characters and other features individually
  • Selling "tokens" so people keep paying for small does of the game (just like in the Arcades)
  • Sell a DLC package with all of the game's features
  • Give the players special abilities (like SCIV's character creation attributes) for money
  • etc
So yeah, it's basically a downward spiral of money wasting. If you've ever downloaded a free game for your phone that keeps asking you to pay for features then you've already played f2p.

"single player experience" PSN exclusive f2p fighting game with items? This is gonna be the biggest bitch of all time.

I no longer feel pain.
I just feel disappointment.
Soul-Crushing disappointment.

Seriously though, everyone just shut up and be grateful we're getting the story mode ya'll were bitching about.

Graphics and gameplay-wise there's nothing really wrong (although they did do some questionable gameplay changes, but that's more poor decision making than washing anything down), but mode-wise it's extremely bare bones. It's got online play, an extremely basic practice mode and an arcade mode, and that's it. The character roster is also extremely tiny. No local play, no time attack, no survival and no other extra modes.

I think something like Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is a much better example of how someone should make a F2P fighting game.

Yes.

And this: http://teamninja-studio.com/doa5/ultimate/us/home.html#ftp (click on More Info)

Its feature list is nearly identical to that of a retail game, and it allows you to play with people owning the retail game. And you pay for characters rather than play time.

They'd have to develop it in a very different way, but I think it would make more sense if they made SC5 Ultimate or SC6, and made a free to play variant of that game.
