Also, with all do respect, everyone on the list had a considerable fan base, maybe not Yun, regardless of this particular case. As far as character designs goes, anything is better than that Naruto gender bender knock off.
I simply gave what I thought was Namco's reasoning behind the cuts, not whether or not I agreed with them.

I wouldn't say nobody...A very significant amount of people want those characters back, at least for the sake of more variety.

Eh, I had a look at DW8 recently and holy crap new weapons. Just when I was thinking SC had covered pretty much most stuff worth covering :P
Sure, bring the old guys back but promise to put in new weapons too? ;)

This is what I think:

In the next game, they shouldn't try to add any more "new" styles. Let's just take a look at 2 unique styles that were added to sc5:

Zwei and Viola. Viola is arguably broken, and Zwei is arguably the worst character in the game. This is why they shouldn't try to add more styles in the next game, because their just gonna do a shitty job of designing the move sets anyway.

Instead, they should just focus on the styles that they have put the most work into over the years, specifically the ones that keep returning. They can also bring back old styles (zas, Yun, Mina) that appeared in at least 2 games. I imagine it's much easier to balance an already existing move set rather than come up with a brand new one from scratch. Not only is it easier but I think the end result will be characters that are designed more competently and thus more balanced.

They can justify the return of old characters and the removal of new ones from sc5 by making it take place before sc5. Pat is a nice addition and can stay, but seriously, I know many people who would welcome the removal of Viola and Zwei as well. Someone said the less anime the better, well I agree 100%.

Now, about the meter thing;

It's most likely making a return, so you better like it whether you like it or not :) What I would like to see changed though is a general reduction in meter gain, and no more free bar to the losing player. JG should not build meter, the punishment alone is enough reward IMO, it should however retain it's ability to prevent guard crushes, but it should not work on unblockables. Also, there should be a whiff animation for JG, as well as making it FAR less safe if you whiff it. Maybe just have the character flash blue if they whiff the JG. I would also like to see FAR MORE BE's, maybe twice as many per character, and everyone should have an alternate CE (214214 or something) that is completely different from their normal CE.

Also, expect the move sets to reduce even further down to only 50 moves per character. I may not 100% agree with this idea but I'm almost certain it's going to happen. Right now, most characters have 80-100 moves. Yoshi is an exception since he has closer to 180 moves (don't believe me? count them yourself!). But I think 50 is a reasonable target to meet since most people don't use more than that anyway.

Agreed Viola and ZWEI should get the boot. As far as no more new styles I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.

Soul Calibur NEEDS variety. period.
Scaling back and having the original cast is going to make the game stale. If Namco Bandai has time they CAN make a good, balanced game with a diverse roster and intricate move options. Why do we have to play it cautious?
Also where did you get the idea of reducing movesets down to 50??...

ALSO: Bad news for Xbox 360 owners (me) Soul Calibur: Lost Swords is a F2P PS3 exclusive (as you guys already know). *sigh* I suppose SC2HD will do for now...

I dont want to live on this planet anymore

It's not that namco HAS to play it safe, but I think it would be better if they did. In the end, people care more about balance than anything else, and since balance is almost impossible on a brand new character, then I say fuck it.

besides, if you were to bring back all the classic styles that people actually liked and miss, the game would have plenty of variety. I actually thought the previous rosters had much more variety.

And as far as the move sets getting reduced, since every game since sc2 has seen a reduction of the total number of moves per character from game to game, I don't think it's a stretch of reason to assume that this trend continues. Even now in sc5 with reduced move sets, do you use 100% of them? I sure don't.

Now, I would love to live in a perfect world where every character has 180 moves and they all serve a unique purpose, but that's not reality. It's much easier to balance a game with only 50 moves per character and in the long run people would rather have solid balance than having a shit ton of moves to learn. Add this to the fact that less moves=more accessible and it becomes obvious why reducing move sets is the way to go.

4 of the new characters have elements of 2d fighters.

Bubbles to lock down/zone and give possible advantage to algol even when blocked.
Charge/release mechanic of hilde to give her borderline overpowered moves but they cannot be spammed mindlessly.
Viola's set orb tactics on block is like a projectile
Zwei's wolf on block is like a projectile

The last 2 are like bastards of Algol, but in a good way.

SC has definately moved away from the multi stance-heavy character designs from older versions.
