Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

Is there a way you guys could let us (me) know when you're playing at WNF? The time difference and other games that I don't feel like watching often get in the way of me seeing you guys go at it.

Hmm, that player made it up to the finals and took second place, largely because no one really knew how to hold against him. Although there are some interesting moments of insight there like SS K and the player has impeccable defense. Yet no one held against the final hit of 6PPP or ducked the second hit after the first block. A few managed to hold against 6PP, though, so maybe its a little harder than I thought to effectively hold against it? The player plays rather similar to the way I did before fighting numerous less skilled players forced me to change up my strategies.

Either way though, he's a lot better at defense and throw punishing than me. And I wish I could get 214T throws off as successfully as he does.

If we're streaming DOA tonight, I'll have Vincent Rayne post here letting you guys know about it. SA staff can't give out the wifi code at SA so I can't gain access on my Vita, otherwise I'd post about it myself. So definitely keep your eye on this thread for any updates.

Stream link incase anyone needs it; http://www.twitch.tv/leveluplive

i feel so bad and dumb. >_< i choked against Commanda Panda cause i got discouraged about a glitch happening that we already knew about and me losing the round because of it. after that i just lost focus and played stupid. hopefully that won't happen next time. especially when i did so well the other matches.

Just picked this game up, my first DOA game too, having a blast with it. Unfortunately I don't know if I'm really good, or just really good at mashing buttons. Regardless, I'm not buying an online pass so I might as well enjoy mashing.

... Just do it. Play some actual people for a change.
Also, hit up FreeStepDodge for all the info you might need on your main.

Out of curiosity, who is your main?

I refuse to pay extra money for a mode that should have already been included. But right now im using Hayate, Jann Lee, Hayabusa, and Rig.

Then I really hope you find an offline scene to frequent. You've got some solid characters there (especially 'Busa and Rig) and you'll need someone to play to actually improve.

I just got Vanilla, what's different in Ultimate?

Everything, lmao.

Several new characters, a new gameplay mechanic, more single-player content.
You can get the FtP version on PSN, it's basically the same but with the majority of the roster/story mode locked. Only Kasumi, Hayate, Ayane, and Ryu are available. Everyone else costs like 5$ USD each. They have certain characters available to play for two weeks at a time, though.

you got vanilla instead of ultimate? The difference is pretty big. i can't even imagine playing on vanilla anymore. and i haven't paid a dime to play online either. trust me. you won't get better facing computer controlled characters.
Who's ready for the 1.04 patch?
i'm not. after seeing the unnecessary nerfs to kokoro and momoji i'm iffy about the whole thing. i feel like i'm in my SCV days all over again with leixia and her wonky nerfs. i just don't understand the mindset behind these changes. nerf mid/low tier characters but buff top tier characters like Sarah and Ayane and leave Gen Fu alone with his godlike gameplay style that is equivalent in skill to a someone rolling their facing over a keyboard.

I'm okay with the Momiji adjustments. Her sweeping kick has outrageously long range that definitely needed to be looked into and making Tenku P a guard break feels like a nice buff. And honestly, people need to realize that 1PP is not a mix-up or a poke, but something to use to punish highs mid string and for counter hits. The move needs more risk.

i know about the kick. i'm just saying that why put much time into putting balancing characters (mostly for the worst) that are in need of getting better (i.e. Eliot and Kokoro). this is supposed to be a "balance" patch. but i have not seen any balancing within these patches. all the virtua characters have been buffed in damage and safety on guard, obvious to make a larger VF audience to play DOA? apparently Kokoro is damn scary in Japan. enough scary to have yet another guaranteed option of hers away. they gave her a guaranteed off of her 3 frame sabaki now but the damage that can be done after that are laughable. and they nerfed her best tool. her 3 part throw. it does less damage now. Eliot only got damage buffs but the problem was his kit. not his damage. it just seems team ninja just kinda tossed him aside. but characters that get a lot of attention or are already good either remain untouched or get buffed. this game's tier list line is just becoming more apparent. which is bad. but now it seems like this will be yet another tier whorish game at this rate.

People are praising Ein's buffs when it's the same issue as Eliot. More damage is nice, but all Ein's good for is knocking the enemy away before they get too close. The tools he does need aren't coming, so he's really no better.

Momiji, though... I don't see too much of a change from the numbers. I'll have to put her in the lab for a bit.

I have a couple questions for Lei Fang:

1. What exactly is her fighting style?
2. Does she have a steep learning curve?
3. Are there any good Lei Fang players I can reference?
