Trying to Redeem the SCV Newcomers

Speaking of Pyrrha, I'm more curious about how she is going to maintain horrible luck still having her mother's condition.
I wanna know about that hand. Is it ever gonna heal or something? Or is she just stuck like that forever now?

I would be amused if she is in a happy state of mind now but when using her she still has that big hand. lol

My 2 cents:
1) Pat is okay. His only problem is that he is "main character". In previous games everyone had a story, even through most of them was non-canon, while in SCV for first time we had "the story of hero's journey". Any character will get that much backlash if he'll take ALL TIME IN THE STORY OF THE WHOLE GAME. Everyone else were basically a furniture, except for Pyrrah.
2) His fighting style is cool, keep him.
3) Survey influences potential SCVI roster, but it's not predetermined by it completely. If PS decided to include Pat, they will do so anyway. Also he, as the son of Sophie, is important character to the story (in case anyone'll say "but SCV is noncanon now"). Where have you ever seen company that does games strictly by fans "demands" on social networks and such?

She might pull a Siegfried somehow with her arm, but still have the Soul Edge influence in her body.

I would hope Project Soul would be more smarter in handling that than the assumed "Voilà! Her arm is healed!".

A lot of the characters that were used as substitutes to their parents used "current" tropes to be made, the reason a lot of people talk poorly about Natsu, for example, is that she was obviously made to be a Naruto ninja archetype, since the stoic and cold approach they used to design Taki's personality was not the current view of "ninjas" by the way other medias were portraying them.

The problem with that is that a lot of this young characters didn't fit into the game's narrative style, characters like Cassandra who had a more fun side still had serious personality traits, unlike, Lexia for example.

In general the poor reception the new characters got (Specially for the more casual people who, unlike what most people think, exist.) is more because they were modeled to be hype and cool in a "current" way rather than to be trained warriors from around the world.

Completely agree. Those new characters' problem is that they are not created fitting for SC.

Definitely, honestly they felt too modern for a game like Soulcalibur, Natsu, Xiba, and Leixia especially when it came to personality. However, I don't dislike the new characters for that but I'm not big fans of them either.

Y'know coming back to this thread, I felt the need to express my thoughts on the SCV cast.

Patroklos
I think Pat as a character isn't as bad as I initially thought of him to be. I don't mind his old personality and his current one. Maybe they can combine the two of these to form something more different and unique compared to the rest of the cast. As I've said before, he was meant to start out as a flawed protagonist, and I think that might be why some people dislike him. For his fighting style I would also like to see a mixture of his original and aPat styles. He can use the lai sword along with his shield. As a whole I feel as if they can blend both his regular and aPat traits together to make a unique character.
Natsu
I'd say she's fine. Her personality is really different from Taki and I like that. However, I would like to see her grow as a character and gives an exploration on her relationships with Xiba and Leixia. Natsu at best I'd say is a character that has great potential but can deliver us a greater performance in the next game if that potential is used well. I'm still willing to give her a chance.
Pyrrha
She seems to have developed a bolder personality after the events of SCV. I see it as a redeeming factor for her. While it is understandable as to why she was like this, it just tended to leave a bad taste in my mouth with her "I'm sorry" routine over and over. Gameplay wise, a combination of both her vanilla and Omega styles would work.
ZWEI
Probably the most interesting of the newcomers minus the personality and lackluster costume choices. They could explore more about how he was given his abilities to summon EIN and more about his origins. I also enjoy his unique fighting style and while it is enjoyable, he really needs to be buffed big time. I'm more than willing to give this guy a chance for the next game,
Xiba
He has a rather easygoing personality and a obsession with food, I don't mind it. His fighting style feels fine. Some development for his actual character could be nice, including his chemistry with Kilik, seeing as how the former has been given the Kali-Yuga. He can be improved.
Leixia
Personality imo is annoying as fuck. Could really use some maturity here as far as I'm concerned. But then again, she'd just be Xianghua Mark II. 2P costume I honestly like. Nothing else to say here.
Viola
Has plenty of potential, and a unique playstyle. I honestly feel they can explore her amnesia more and have memories come flooding back to her. Another possible thing that can be done is to explore her odd relationship with ZWEI. Note that I see this as a more companionate relationship rather than a passionate one. But I digress. Fighting style could use some tweaking if they choose to keep it. Not much else for me say here.

I honestly feel as if they all can be changed in one way or another, and this is all just my honest opinion. Once again, feel free to agree or disagree with me if you like. Just don't get riled up over this because of the latter. I'm not positive that any of this would happen but just some stuff that I'd like to see for our new SCV cast. Other than that I'm done here. PM me if you have any questions.

Pat is completely ok' with me and, while he could get some iai moves with his sheath-shield, I don't want to see him revamped much. His playstyle is cool and unique as it is. And Setsuka must come back.

The only problem is that she is... too modern, style of her speech and behaviour to be precise. Also she could get some differentiations from Taki's moveset, like changing her weapon to two katana's, like on those "leaked" concepts.
Pyrrha

If we'll fuse Pyrrha and Omega we'll get Sophie, so she needs some more revamping to her battle style. As for personality she is ok'.

I agree with everything here. And his 2nd costume was kinda cool.

He, apart from fighting style, should be completely changed. He's extremely out of place with his food obsession and absence of any personality besides this obsession.
Leixia
Personality imo is annoying as fuck. Could really use some maturity here as far as I'm concerned. But then again, she'd just be Xianghua Mark II. 2P costume I honestly like. Nothing else to say here.
Xiang should return, Leixia is not needed, completely.
Viola

Agree, also would like to know more about her connection to Raph.

In my honest opinion, with the exception of Leixia none of the new characters are really terrible. The potential they had just didn't hit it's mark, and could be the reason why they didn't get a warm welcome by many of the fans, aside from being replacements. To me, I see these characters as more like additions to the roster rather than replacements. They have their shortcomings but these can be fixed for the next game and hopefully their performances will be able to match the potential they all have (except Leixia).

Pat as a whole, isn't that bad. I may have gone a bit overboard on a few things but a change or two wouldn't be the worst thing that can be done to him. Would like to see Setsuka too.

Natsu being too modern is a bit out of place I agree. "That..didn't suck" and "So lame" are examples of it. The cocky/overconfident bits of her I feel are fine but her modernization needs to be toned down. She still has potential to grow as a character and a bit of chemistry between her and Taki wouldn't hurt.

Pyrrha could use a gameplay change now that she's different. If they keep her demonic arm, I think they might be able to work it into her style seeing as she still had it after the events of SCV.

ZWEI's 1P costume looks like something out of Twilight. Nuff said.

Much like for Natsu, Xiba feels a bit modern and requires some room for character growth. Still would like to see some chemistry between him and Kilik.

Leixia has no redeeming qualities and is honestly the only horrible new character for me.

People like to speculate she's Amy and seeing as how Raph becomes vexed by her presence, there could be something going on there. Hell, even NM has a unique victory animation when he beats Viola.

Did you guys ever take a look at xiang ? Xiang is just as annoying. There is literally no difference to leixia, aside from leixia having the better costumes. So Leixia wins.

I think she could abandon shield and use just sword and her arm - that would make her different enough from Sophie and make an interesting fighting style.

First costume is terrible no doubt. But second is far better.

Xiba is another story, while Natsu needs a few little "fixes", his personality needs to be revampt more.

She also could be her sister, because there is little known about Amy and her having siblings would be interesting. Also Viola's blood connection to Amy could explain Raph's/Nightmare's weird reaction.

Nah, Xiang is much less annoying to me, besides
the only annoyance Xianghua gave me was her frequent saying of "Just kidding" in a rather high pitch.
Leixia's P2 is pretty nice, but her P1 costume irks me. Especially the hairstyle.
Same.
