Well Tekken advance didnt have any new characters. While BD was actually a better version of scIV with 2 new additions.

Perhaps what I should have said is that it will be the first numbered entry in a Namco fighting game series without a new female character.

Personally think that if there is a surprise third newcomer female, she should get some kind of bladed bow and fight sort of like either Serah from FFXIII-2 or Kung Jin. Some kind of fighting style with a quick shot, but maybe limited in arrows. For example a launcher where she can follow up with an arrow. I kind of envision her movements being similar to Tira for some reason just because of how acrobatic they could potentially be. I don't see Groh Sr. using that kind of style.

I've been reading that "Groh" is either a mistranslation or an incorrect Norwegian name. If his name would make more sense to be "Groholt" as it suggested, then I would want them to fix it and rename him that. Its just a detail that would irk me if thats the case.

That is indeed the case. Grø works fine - it’s a fairly uncommon Norwegian surname but it is correct. There is also a mountain of that name near where I used to live in Stavanger. More commonly you’d usually see Grøholt or Grøstad - and in fact there’s a Norwegian racing commentator who’s called Grøstad, but he’s affectionately known as “Grø“ for short.

You never end a word with an “h” after a slashed o in Norwegian. All Namco needs to do is remove the “h” and it makes sense ;)

If you're trying to compare BD with a similar case to Tekken, you should do it with Dark Ressurection instead Tekken Advance, a game that matter as much as SC pachinko if you aske me. T5DR added 2 brand new characters and 1 returning character, and new moves and new costumes to each character, which is way bigger than BD actually. (tho it was an Arcade first game as usual with Tekken :sigh: , and personally i really hated that it came out on PSP instead of PS2. That was actually the beginning of the death of Tekken community is the West.)

Anyway to go back to Topic, hope to hear news about SC6 very very soon. They can do Breakdowns videos for the new characters like they did with Sophie, it would help a lot actually.

Now that I think about it, we keep saying that they shouldn't release new females while not bringing back all the old ones, when we have two new male characters coming out when Hwang, Yun-Seong, Damp and Algol potentially aren't coming back.

That said the roster looks predominantly male so I get the concern, we'll just have to wait and see. I really can't wait for them to give out an announcement schedule or a release date.

For Groh's relationships, Ozuru could actually be romanized as Ozer, a Jewish word, or Ozeur which is a northern European surname. And like previously mentioned is also the name of Freya's husband, though it's not pronounced the same way as Japanese here is written.

As for Curtis, it's Anglo-Norman, which means he's a buddy of Groh, but not necessarily from the same region.

As for Groh's name, I'm going to say that it's probably Danish and not Norwegian. Given Denmark controls Norway at this point of history, Danish would likely be the controlling language in the region or at least a major influence. Either way, I think they were aiming for a northern European word for "Grey" as in the color.

Will Groh's relationships be playable? Hard to say, but I think it's unlikely. Very rarely do we ever see a playable character's relationships become playable. Sophitia was the only real exception.

As for new characters, I really hope it's not two. Soul Calibur has been its most successful when it introduces at least three or four.

EDIT: For some additional information; Groh's critical edge, Chevalier Mal Fet is a French translation (and a direct reference to) the book called the Ill-Made Knight. The story is basically a modern take on Lancelot's relationship with Guinevere of the Arthurian tales. This particular story tends make Lancelot a rather ugly-looking character when prior tales never gave him that distinction. And likewise, Groh wielding a double-bladed sword called Arondight Replica is another known reference to Lancelot.

FWIW, references to past heroic knights in European tales is not new to Soul Calibur. Siegfried is another character who also carries some references to Sigurd, the legendary dragonslayer.

If past references are a foretelling, I would expect the name Alberich to show up sooner or later.

Would the leakers happen to have a sense of how far along the development is to get an idea for release date? They can say its 70 percent complete but PR means nothing when games can be delayed

One of the leakers told me that it was still doing mocap in May. Their opinion was that it wasn't anywhere near a fully playable state at the time. That was in November.

It's probably a fruitless endeavor, but it may not be.... but if you have a twitter account @bails38, I'd recommend you tweet these things to achilles_Okubo, BandaiNamcoEU, and BandaiNamcoUS on there. I don't remember what their Japanese twitter handle is for Bandai Namco, but somewhere here might.
It's best to try and correct them now if they need it than wait and they change his name later like Seong Mi-Na and Yun-Seong have gotten over the years. lol

That was from me, yes.

I will do mate - I actually already telephoned Bamco UK to tell them, (They just said thank you and “more details to follow in due course”) ;)

Edit - I just tweeted them too! (I’m @bails7474)

Late October-early November sound the most realistic to me, it'd mean they could do a big release date reveal at E3 and do a final character reveal and full roster demo at TGS in September.

It would also mean there'd still be plenty of buzz leading up to Christmas to get extra buyers there who might have started to forget about it if it had an earlier release (and it gives time to release some DLC in time for Christmas too).

Dont know...i hope this isnt the case, and that sounds way too business-tied...i honestly dont remember a single soul calibur game that had been launched near christmas, so i dont consider that a factor. October sounds very likely though, since they have a lot of ideas for the game to implement, from what i have read.

Could be on the 10th anniversary of SCIV perhaps? End of July/early August that would be.
I though that too, but i think its too soon since the announcement, so i dont think that happen, it would be great though.
