Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Did Verge say something about Cassie having a spear instead?

I like her style better on men than Sophie’s to be honest but Lizzy might have a more suiting style, especially if he steals from Patroklos.

If Viola’s style isn’t used, I do hope it’s a CaS exclusive since it makes sense for that. Don’t mind a bare-handed style either, but preferably Heihachi’s. It’s not like CaSes are allowed in tournaments.

I love mimics (in moderation), hate Elysium, and would be happy to explain why.

The biggest reason that the "Soul Calibur is also evil" idea is the most shark-jumpingly stupid "plot twist" ever inflicted upon the SoulCalibur storyline, which was already weak and wounded from a decade of lazy writing. It was at this point that I realized a reboot was inevitable, since they were obviously out of ideas for how to move the story forward.

Elysium is inexorably linked to this storyline, so I can't help but dislike her as well.
So you dislike the character, not the mimic and its moveset. That's understandable. Though if you missed it, Elysium's existence was already teased in SoulCalibur IV, most overtly shown in Cassandra's ending, but there were implications that Soul Calibur had "evil" tendencies all the same. And it's not really "evil", but "lawful good", where it doesn't take into consideration the value of human life, destroying Soul Edge at all costs.

I, personally, still don't think the idea itself is bad. It's a shapeshifter like Inferno, and I'd say its base form is likely water or ice to contrast Inferno's fiery incarnations. It was a bit of a squick moment that it took the form of Sophitia to manipulate Patroklos, sure, but it's not set in stone that that's how it has to look, if that particular aspect is something you don't like, just as an example.

Beyond the character, though, as a mimic, how do you feel about the idea of tweaking each style's moves with unique flair and having unique moves?

A spear? That's the first I'm hearing of it. I thought it was that Cassandra was supposed to be in SoulCalibur V, where she would have had a longsword style, taking inspiration from Darth Vader.

Spear and Shield could be cool, and it's not that HUGE of a change and is very greek/roman so fits great. In fact is more historically iconic and accurate than the sword and shield as the sword was traditionally the backup weapon if the spear is broken or lost. I would heartily approve her return with a spear, but sword and shield? Naw we have enough of those.

Personal opinion on this. I love the Witcher music, however I don't like it as the background music for his stage. It just dominates over everything else to the point where it's getting grating to listen to.

As much as I love Cassie and Lizarddude, them both getting in over Raphael more unique fighters would bother me a bit assuming they're largely unchanged from previous games. Two, sure, but three somewhat interchangeable sword-and-board users in the core roster? Eh.

Reboot allows for some changes and I think spear and shield would fit quite well and be significant enough a difference. As for Lizzie IF he's gonna have a sword and shield should be a large shield and a clear full on long sword to differentiate from Sophie's short sword and small shield.

Sorry, but looking and moveset of Lizardman greatly similar to looking and moveset of Toad from old XMens (Sega Genesis)
This is my humble opinion, I do not impose it on anyone.

For as much as I love CaS (and I really do, I have a massive thread all about my creations somewhere on the forums), I never gave a real hoot about any of the CaS options in SC3 because only like...2 or 3 of them were interesting lmao.

This sentiment has been shared before, but I agree with the idea that if a fighting style was going to implemented into a game, it’d be better off as a fully developed and fleshed out character instead of the wonky and rusty stuff they had in SC3. Some of the stuff they had for the CaS styles in SC3 ended up being implemented into actual characters’ movesets anyway (like Wave Blades going into Algol).

i would like lizzy to retain his double axe. for spear hilde already exists.
Hilde is not really a spear user in any way reminiscient of actual spear use. She's a weird freaky bizarre style user not a spear user. Hell it's even supposed to be some kind of weird lance. And she fights just as much with her weird dinky sword dagger.

It would be like saying Grow with his weird made up dual break apart sword is a cool acceptable representation for sword users so why have someone else use a sword.

Saying Hilde is a spear user and thus spears aren't needed is as absurd as Groh as the only needed sword weilder. Both are absurd examples of swords and spears.

Nonsense
Hilde is a spear user. You may not like her, but that doesn't change the fact that she uses a spear and her fighting style is based on her spear.

No it's not it's based on weird lance spear thing and dinky sword thing in weird style weilded in a way no one ever has. Also the spear has played a bigger part in humanities development than swords have and their are multiple sword users with different styles and sword styles in the game. So your whole, there's already a spear user is absurd. There's more than one size spear and style of wielding them.

A short spear and shield does not equal weird lance spear thing and dinky sword. Seong-Mina is more accurate a spear user than Hilde and she uses a Naginata.

As a person for whom spear use is a passion as I find the spears history and advancement from primitive man to modern use and forms fascnating, I find the idea of Hilde as the only representation of the spear insulting and inadequate to the real weapon and it's place in human history.

I love the spear, and yet I can't stand and would not use the absurdity that is Hilde. Which should say something.

I don't think that we'll have only 11 stages.. The E3 build was not the final version of the game so we'll have more stages! BTW I really want a stage placed in Japan just like Setsuka's stage in SCIII or Taki's stage in SCII.
Both Hoko Temple and Temple of The Dead need to come back!

For my part, I'd speak more to the CaS styles from SoulCalibur III being a success than Devil Jin. The styles from SoulCalibur III were neat, incomplete and rough as they were, to give CaS a bit more flair beyond just mimicking the main cast in one way or another. Plus, they allowed Hwang and Li Long (and Arthur) to make a return, which was a nice bonus. Plus, they gave us Amy, who probably would never have been playable without. If we were really going to start seeing the inclusion of Salia, Dürer, Toki, Bangoo, and the like, I feel like CaS styles is the way to give them a chance, and if people take well enough to them, then maybe they can be refined and added as complete characters in the next game.

I did replay SoulCalibur III a couple months ago, and it was still fun and great, but imagine that same experience with current gen tech. It would be brilliant.

Her SoulCalibur II 1p and her SoulCalibur III 2p were my favorites, so hopefully somewhere along those lines.

I agree. A Talim style between two and three would be cool.

I still think Amy has a shot in this game because of time era

If Raphael isn’t in then no point of amy either. Though a Yoda size Amy would be a good bonus character and could work in Raphael’s story. Most likely won’t happen though.

Raphael no longer has his gimmick of vampirism unless his fighting style merged with Amy’s.

It’s just that some Amy fans, the less said the better.

My issue with him being likely gone is because that’s the same crap pulled with Zas and Talim.

But then an Iaido style isn’t as likely and proves Patty is only good for using sword-and-board or iaido on dudes or curly hair.

Not sure how I feel about changing existing characters weapon and playstyle. In terms of Cassandra having a spear and shield instead of sword and shield (which seems unlikely). Giving her a spear would drastically changer her playstyle and in a fighting game the way a character plays is the most important thing. It would practically be a new character and I don't know how I feel about tbh.

Lizardman changing to double axes was a progressive change that worked and I don't understand why they would revert him back to S&S, it make no sense. I know that's how he was in the beginning, a Sophitia clone with only a couple different moves, but the reboot gives the opportunity to have him use the double axes from the offset. Why get rid of that weapon style? (If the picture from the trailer is truly representative of what he'll use)
It would piss me off if he's the reason Cassandra isn't in as he had a unique style given to him and had no reason to return to S&S.

damn if we get a spear user (i would hope shes new to the series) her B attacks are gonna be frightening fast. cause...they should...being a spear user. i imagine them being something like lancer from fate stay night in terms of aggression....

holy we could get a guest character from fate stay night!

Sure...but what are the chances of that happening? lol 0.0%, SCIII is my favorite game in the series by far AND for a plethora of different reasons, but that formula just doesn't cut it financially, it's not worth it for them to do that if the game doesn't sell well.
