Soulcalibur VI General Roster Speculation Thread

SoulCalibur VI: which 3 characters do you most hope for?

  • A brand new character

  • Amy

  • Cassandra

  • Hilde

  • Hwang/Yunsung and/or Lizardman

  • Rock

  • Setsuka

  • Viola

  • Z.W.E.I.

  • Other: Abyss, Algol, Dampierre, Elysium, Leixia, Li Long, Patroklos, etc.

The screen is definitely not final, especially since the character creation slot isn't featured in there. But I always assume for the worst to save myself from disappointment. I honestly expect 22 characters at launch including Tira and Inferno. Cervantes and Raphael should be announced soon.
If I'm lucky, I am wrong and Hwang at least makes it in the base roster. Aeon (dual axes) should be in too.

The scars of SoulCalibur V run deep.
Actually there’s the dots highlighted in the picture.

The problem exists, however, if you take Hwang and Lizardman off the roster, then there's no one else to go in their slots really. Even if we assume the blue dots do nothing, and the CaS slot goes in the bottom left corner, we're still at one free slot, where I would feel obligated to put Hwang:
Code:
Hwang Siegfried Zasalamel Nightmare Seong Mi-na
Xianghua Maxi Sophitia Astaroth Ivy
Yoshimitsu Kilik Inferno Grøh Voldo
Talim Mitsurugi Geralt Taki Cervantes
CaS Raphael Azwel Tira Random

The only upside to this ordering is that it gives some credence to the folks who put Seong Mi-na inbetween Cervantes and Astaroth in Soul Chronicle.

That is the opposite of hype. If they wanted us to have hype, they would have shown us more blank slots than just adding the three to the corners. I wholeheartedly believe that MarkMan's comment was indicating that the center slot would unlock and that three more slots would be added for DLC, and that's really all we will get. If it's more than that, then that's great, but I'm not expecting anything more than this, because I don't want to be disappointed.

So the game comes out 10/19. It is August 29. I fully anticipate a grand announcement about 2 or 3 weeks before release. Most games do this. They drip-feed the hardcore with bits of truth, but hold back the best juicy bits so that the casual/impulse buy part of the demographic gets hyped before the release, but not so far ahead of the release that the casual/impulse buyers forget. They've done the marketing right for us on this site....we're hyped, but games are marketed with certain timing for a reason. I don't believe that the delay in release of information correlates to lack of content.

I hope so....

what would sell the most?

Releasing all the character information, including at least 2 unrevealed characters within a couple weeks of release. These could include previous SC characters, but I imagine a new, really well-designed (waifu) character would get the most hype. A guest could also generate tons of hype. Of previous characters, while Raph, Hwang, and Setsuka would appeal to a lot of people, Cervantes and Cassandra would generate even more appeal with casuals. Unsure about Lizardman.

Talking about some new stages.

Mentioning any unpreviously discussed modes.

Re-emphasizing two stories including the magnitude of CAS.

(then the obvious... showing/describing gameplay, weapons & styles, etc.)

I actually meant for the demo select screen not your prediction lol. I was agreeing with you about people treating the demo screen as being finalized when it certainly isn't. The only takeaway from it is that it is going to feature more than 20 characters, otherwise they would have kept the old select screen.

But I do mostly agree with your prediction though. The only difference is I'm guessing Rock would be chosen instead of a new female character if they are going to have 24 characters at launch (a new femle character would be really cool though!). I also don't believe there will be a DLC button and the screen will simply be resized or slightly redesigned to accommodate for more characters. The slots on the side is most likely going to be Character Creation and Random is my prediction.

Afterall, the demo screen is a placeholder.

If he doesn't make it base, unless he's free dlc, I doubt he'd make it at all.

Jokes aside, at least Cass, Setsuka, Amy for example are popular, they would work as dlc. As much as I'd hate it, as much as many people would hate it, it would be a better move than having rock as dlc. I feel that we are going to see Cass and Setsuka as dlc, with a more differentiated Yun. I hope to god we don't get a new guest.

Essentially, I imagine in addition to the cast we gave, we'll get Cervy, Rock, Hwang and Raph. Cass and Setsuka are very popular. Yun is quite popular too, and adds a third Korean. So adding more for the Korean audience (which is quite big iirc) Though possible with the toxic reaction to Tira PS may be a bit discouraged with dlc. For the fourth I'd expect a new characters, maybe a new female. Rock does have potential. He hasn't been seen since 2008 if my memory isn't broken.

As a sidenote I'd rather have any SC character over another guest. I don't particularly care for guests myself. I have used ezio a grand three times. The only "guest" I have consistently used is Ashlotte. So I had to omit any other guest for preference.

To be honest:
  • Hwang in MR (50%)
    • Hwang in MR, Yun as DLC (15%)
  • Yun in MR (50%)
    • Yun in MR, Hwang as DLC (25%)
  • Both as NPC (10%)
    • Both as DLC (0%)
Hwang is being quite requested by the community, he can be considered as DLC if he isn't in main roster / Yun Seong: main roster or SC VII.

Yeah after Hwang got leaked i wouldnt expect to see Yun at least not until something like a season 2 maybe.

The top priorities here for DLC are Cassandra, Setsuka and Hilde in that order. That would be assuming Raph, Cervy, Hwang and Lizzy all make the base roster per the original leak.

But another wrench to throw in all of that is an additional guest which i'm starting to believe is coming now. Okubo didnt outright confirm it but he did imply it could be coming so i think that means we will get another one. I just hope to god it isnt 2B like so many people are demanding but it probably is unfortunately.

I dont see Rock being DLC at all. For the reasons people think he cant make the base roster, it would be even more stupid to place him on DLC. Although, i suppose if PS did some MAJOR changes with his appearance and moveset it could potentially change all of that but i feel the rumors of this new female barbarian type would effectively kill him.

Why are you so against 2B?

Three major reasons.
1. Technological androids in SC. I dont care about the Star Wars excuse. It was stupid then and i hated every match with the Apprentice. I can tell you i liked his moveset so much he would have been my primary main if not for the Lightsaber but because of that, i never touched him. Except maybe in training or against Vader and Yoda. Looking back on the situation from today, i realize Star Wars characters were a golden opportunity for Namco. That goes well beyond anything any videogame character could ever provide. If they were only able to get the Apprentice without Vader and Yoda then i would assume they wouldnt bother but the point is 2B cant possibly have the same excuse that Star Wars does.

2. The pacing and speed of Nier is way different than SC. Frankly speaking 2B will not be able to do half the things she does in her own game. The way she moves and attacks, and the rate she hits... it just doesnt fit. At the most you are looking at 4 or 5 hit combos in SC. Otherwise a typical match is two characters stepping in and out of close range looking for an open spot to hit a couple times at a comparatively slow pace to Nier. 2B belongs in a fast paced game with fluid, fast movement. A game that has prolonged air combos ranging in the averages of 20 plus hits and several movement options like dashes. She also needs to be in a game that is more projectile heavy, where keep away tactics are a thing. She doesnt work here for the same reasons Bayonetta and Dante cant work. She belongs in something more similar to MvC. If they do force her in, she'll have to change so much. Which would completely strip the entire reason people enjoy her in the first place (except maybe her appearance).

3. I want Ornstein for a guest instead. I think its a better choice for Namco as well. 2B may be more popular as an individual character but Dark Souls as a game and series is i think more popular than Nier Automata. Plus Namco isnt assisting another companies sales with that guest.

I think that the guest characters will be from final fantasy. We already have the bunny ears from 14? 2b isn't a grand enough guest. Tifa, sepiroff and cloud would make s statement.

I dont think they should go with several guests at a time. Cloud and Sephiroth's popularity is bordering on annoying at this point. Not to mention they will conflict too much with Siegfried and Nightmare (or at least Cloud will). I suppose Tifa might work but i would have preferred her on Tekken rather than here.

Honestly, if we are considering FF7 characters i think Yuffie is the best choice. She has enough popularity to draw attention but not to the point of being annoying like Cloud. Has a weapon not too similar to anything already on the roster. Has a lot of potential for a moveset considering materia choices and Limit Breaks. FF was still turn based during her time so we dont have to worry about issues with movement and combos like i pointed out in Nier. She's female and a plus because the roster is still heavily male at the moment.

Thanks for the spellcheck!!!

FF7 reboot is just an example.....I think the guest(s) will be unexpectedly hyped.

Hopefully, technically speaking FF7 is too modern and technological similar to Nier but i can excuse that because the characters themselves are not androids and they fight with bladed weapons/fists (Obviously not Barret or Vincent). But yeah, i just hope they pick something appropriate for the game.
