There's still the consideration that Hwang and Lizardman are to be implemented with a Day 1 Patch.

Shouldn't stop them from releasing a Hwang trailer to effectively deal with the Melbourne issue.

It’s quite silly to say that the Melbourne build is almost certainly the final build.

It might be the final roster, but there’s so much that can happen in development and what they choose to release to the public, purposely or not.

But how could accidental leaks perfectly line up with another leak from an outside source but still be incorrect?

You know it occurs to me that no one asks this question. If people decide this can not be the final build based off the number of empty slots. How do you know it doesnt mean they could just remove the dots and shrink down the size for whatever the final build is? Why assume we would get more characters to fill it out?

They could do that, but they would be invalidating themselves at when they added the four corner slots at E3, like, why would they go through the trouble of adding slots if they were just going to take them away? It doesn't make sense.

(Theoretically, there might have been another build. IGN posted some gameplay footage of Talim and Voldo shortly after they were revealed. But there's no evidence that this version of the game didn't also have Raph and Cervantes, nor is there any evidence that it was pressed on a disk. They could have just visited the Namco-Bandai offices and captured the footage there.)
I think that footage was recorded in-house by Namco and they gave it to IGN for the interview. Parts of the footage was blurred and it had extensive cutting. It's very unlikely IGN would be doing any of that.

If the base roster is 20 characters, then that makes the initial reveal pretty funny. The first version we saw running had exactly 20 slots. Namco assured us it was not representative of the final roster (I guess they were alluding to DLC?) but it's looking to be exactly the base roster size.

The roster is already past 20, if we're counting Tira:

1) Siegfried
2) Zasalamel
3) Nightmare
4) Azwel
5) Xianghua
6) Maxi
7) Sophitia
8) Astaroth
9) Ivy
10) Yoshimitsu
11) Kilik
12) Grøh
13) Cervantes
14) Talim
15) Mitsurugi
16) Geralt
17) Taki
18) Seong Mi-na
19) Raphael
20) Voldo
21) Tira

Hwang, Inferno, and Lizardman would push it to 24. :sc3hwang1: :sc2cha1: :sc1liz1:

New theory:
Not so much a theory actually because i dont seriously think they will do this, although it would be wonderful.

Perhaps those dots clear to the left and right of CAS and random select are for "trial period" DLC characters. In other words an event of sorts when a player can try out a new character (maybe also CAS parts) for free for a limited time to decide if they want to purchase it or not. While anyone actually purchased is dumped into the middle spot. That would be spectacular.

Only thing that bugs me about those two is they sit outside of CAS and random, which i feel they should be on the outside.

If this was Dead Or Alive, then your theory hope would have more chance of being reality.

DOA 5 free version had periods of time where locked characters were free to try/play.

Definitely not going that route with SoulCalibur.

What with..the $90 full package edition

These slots next to CAS and Random have a problem.
They stand in front of the CAS card, for example. This is a design error.

I suppose it helps to play other fighters and know what is going on. Only other things that might interest me right now is SF5 and EX Layer which are both not available on Xbox1.

My other cool idea for this "free trial" business model was to use Edgemaster and dump all DLC movesets onto him. Strictly training mode use of course. It would be a nice nod to competitive players who want to learn matchups and technical data without needing to purchase all DLC.

Wait a minute, how many other images do we have of the select screen? Cant believe i havent noticed this yet.... there is a "1" at the bottom corner of both the CAS spot and whatever that spot to the left of it is. I actually didnt even notice the bottom left was a "complete spot" while the right one is still just a "dot".

Here is another image from the Melbourne event.

So those spots to left and right aren't for additional characters, its for alt. costumes/color selections. I dont think the game has been like that before but it appears to be that way now because that must be why it changes from a dot to a full "spot". Does anyone have saved video of the Melbourne event?

This effectively cuts the "4 open spots" down to 2 by the way.

Markman seemed to be receptive to Aris' suggestion that there would be a submenu for additional characters a la SC3 (be it DLC, bonus, or both). I would have to think that that center slot is going to be for that purpose, and the character you are currently highlighting will appear on the dot on your side. With us going from 4 to 2 spots, I think they will be for Tira and Inferno. It seems that Hwang, Lizardman, Setsuka, Hilde, Cassandra, or whoever elses' hopes will have to rest with DLC.

It's not for alt costumes / color selections, you can see that here:

And I'm fairly certain that that one with two Creation circles is shopped, in a "well it should be moved over here" way, here's the original:

Hmmm i guess so, that is clearly the same photo. There wouldnt be two "1s" now that i think more about it.
Although it is worth noting color edits and custom outfit selections might still be different. We havent actually seen character editing yet... like at all.

I personally believe they are going to swap the Creation and Random slot to the empty slot next to them. It made no sense and I have always believed they are going to swap them since they showed the E3 build.

It would be aesthetically awkward to have characters isolated from the rest of the roster due to being disconnected by the Character Creation and Random Select buttons. This setup makes sense for this leaked build since the Creation and Random button would be disconnected if they are moved to the bottom corners and an empty slot is placed in the position they are in.

I thought Namco gave the classified build to IGN & Nvidea for SCVI promotion. That build was from June because Astaroth's stage was shown. His stage wasn't in the E3 build. I believe things can change in 2 months before the game went gold. I think SCVI might have Bonus Characters because in SCIII & IV had a spot for them on the character select screen.

Much better.
