Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

I was thinking about something... I wished the Custom Parts DLC packs also included unique fighting styles. Like Viola's, ZWEI's... Then, the styles could be included without taking a character slot. What you guys think?
No. And they wouldn’t be allowed in tournaments given that they would be CaS exclusives.

They are not gonna put all of the hard work of adding a legit style into the game only to low-key drop said style into a cheap CaS pack without proper fanfare and hype that an actual new character generates. It makes zero sense.

You guys are right. Then, I personally would think it would be cool to see new characters with Z.W.E.I and Viola fighting styles

See inferno.

I agree with you don’t get me wrong but inferno is literally what you said they would not do.

Inferno is literally suped-up Nightmare, though, far from a “legit style”. They just gave Nightmare infinite Soul Charge, gave him about five extra moves, and called it a day.

I would say it’s practically a certainty that Viola will be in SoulCalibur VII. Probably Z.W.E.I. too. No need to dilute their styles with some other folks using them when they’ll be in the next game legitimately.

Not quite, he's more unique than that.
Not much, maybe some additional properties splashed in to his moves, but he's not full Night Terror with lasers, bigger explosion waves, waves coming off his slashes, not being able to be rung out, that sort of thing is mostly where I'm going with what I'm saying. It's a pretty lazy / simply OP Nightmare.

Inferno is pretty much a unique character in SC6. It's been a while since I tinkered with Inferno but IIRC Inferno has loads of unique moves and strings, zero stances but instead has OP flying attacks with one of them being a massive bubble explosion in the air. Even in comparison to a Soul Charged Nightmare Inferno is very unique to the point where I would say Inferno only uses 15% of Nightmare's moves. It's a shame Project Soul didn't give him a unique CE or SC animation as they make Inferno look like a lazy Nightmare clone.

He is not a legit style, but a Nightmare clone with a couple of additional moves and properties that make him broken and overpowered with no attempt at balancing, which makes his style illegitimate twice.
He is also not DLC.
So basically a polar opposite to what we are talking about here.

I mean, inferno did get his own trailer, has his own set of moves, and animations, plays and functions differently as a reason for him being an extra style, but he is unable to be CAS'd, unlike every other style in the game. HE also lacks a unique critical edge and soul attack (iirc, i can't fact check rn as am at work.) which definitely seems to dock him into a weird combo style. He is not quite unique, but is also not quite a copy. He isn't a new style to me, but he got a trailer so who knows? I personally like Viola and Zwei as characters so i would be very sad if they were relegated to only being CAS styles, especially since Zwei is one of my favourite characters in the series.

Important thing to remember is that Inferno's moveset is not balanced at all - therefore developing some additional stuff on, or slightly altering already existing moveset is nowhere near as tasking as creating legitimate move set from ground up. Also considering that SCVI runs on different engine than SCV it's also not just a matter of copy-pasting

I don’t find it reasonable to expect Viola or Z.W.E.I. until SoulCalibur VII. Even if we get a season three, we’ve still got Aeon, Rock, and whichever Korean boy who didn’t make it in season two, with probably a fourth guest. And in the unlikely event we get a season four, there’s still Algol, Dampierre, and Li Long. Fifth guest Leesah Kay.

I hope you are right about Aeon, Rock and a Korean coming in Season 3 (considering that Setsuka and Hwang/Yun are the remaining characters of Season 2). Do you think it's possible to have both Koreans? They could make them with revamped movesets, like they did with Raphael/Amy and Sophitia/Cassandra

Of course it’s possible to have both. While they would need to be revamped since the last game they were both in was SC3:AE, their fighting styles have always had different focuses. Yun is the rush down to Hwang’s balanced style, similar to Cassandra and Sophitia, so they already have a basis to start with.

Additionally, Yun Seong has had at least one stance in every appearance while Hwang never did.

If Season 3 is happening, whoever doesn't makes it from Hwang/Rock should make it and Li Long.

I don't like Yunsung but if he makes it after Setsuka, Hwang, Rock and Li Long, then I don't care.
I don't know about Yun-seong making it after Li Long since Yun-seong does have a fan base while Li Long is more niche. I do prefer to see Hwang and Setsuka over him. The only reason I would take Rock over Yun-seong is because I would like to see another "big man" character as an alternative to Astaroth since we only have one "big man" but I would honestly rather see Yun-seong if they are to add Rock as is instead of revising him.

I would be satisfied with these options:
  • Yun-seong & Rock / Salia
  • Hwang & Rock / Salia
  • Setsuka & Hwang / Yun-seong
