A strong probability that the PlayStation Network storefront for PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3 will be shutdown soon.

While it is not official yet, I am pretty sure they already removed the ability to buy PS3, PSP and PSV stuff on the internet storefront. You can still do so with this workaround link though. EDIT: as of 3/29/2021 this link is useless as they killed the PS3/PSP/PSV webstore

Perhaps its time to see if I need to buy any last SC5 DLC? I own Yoda on the PS3, but I regret not having the foresight to buy Darth Vader on the 360 ahead of delisting occurring. I guess my free copy of Broken Destiny from PS PLUS might not be valid anymore? This is all unfortunate... it seems like we will have to rely on "other" methods to preserve the old games...

Holy shit! i just got finished buying some DLC for the fist of the north star: ken's rage 2. there are some more DLC i want to buy, but now i only have three months to buy them? Sheesh!
I hope this story isn't true because what would happen to PS NOW? But this seems plausible because Sony has not been consumer friendly for BC and many things for a long time now...

At least microsoft has a decent amount of their old catalogue from XBOX OG and 360 going but this is still really sad on sony's part.

I have concerns that those who do have it are going to be locked out of the DLC character once the storefront is taken down. As someone who's got the Yoda DLC, you can only access the character if your PS3 is connected to the internet. It's only a matter of time until Sony fully pulls the plug on the PS3 and games like Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 which require it to play the game will no longer be playable.

I may not own a PS3 anymore (it broke down on me long ago) but damn, I can’t help but feel sorry for you guys on the PSN side of gaming. :(

I won't lie, I only turn on my ps3 a few times a year if I'm lucky. But...to have all these purchases potentially wiped out with no way to recover them is really a sad thing to me. I like being able to revisit my older library of games! I don't want to have to use other methods of replaying these classics

Hopefully it means PS5 will be full BC in near future, if not it means that Sony want the crowd of the most retard humans being ever, which is quite shame and weird, considering that playstation has the most iconic games when it comes to legacy games.

That’s never going to happen. If Sony could they would have 0 BC so that fans had to repurchase all their old games as “remasters” but that won’t fly with $500 consoles with no games to play on them

Still to this day, I'm frustrated that the PS3 was not BC with PS2 games, but was with PS1 (wtf?!). That still bugs me out. I find Sony slimy in these dealings.

Edit:
Question now: so, I'm dumb and I'm not 100% getting it -- is the issue currently that Sony will no longer allow old DLC's to be downloadable anymore, or that if you have digital copies of games, they won't work anymore? 😅 Sorry...
Like, for example, one of the few things I still use my PS3 for, is occasionally playing Soul Calibur 2 (digital copy). Not even online, just tooling around arcade or weapon master. Am I still going to be able to do that or will I lose access to that game? 😞
Otherwise, I'll have to dig up my old Gamecube and hope it still works, if I wanna play SC2...

My PS3 plays PS1 and PS2 games. You must have gotten the later models that remove the PS2 BC.

but the issue is they may be shutting down the digital PS store for PS3. We don’t know if downloads will be able to be continually redownloaded or if they will go away. Wouldn’t put it past Sony

I really don't see the point of doing this, isn't their infrastructure still the same? Why take away an option? Were they afraid that some new PS5/PS4 owner would accidentally buy a PS3 game on the web store or something?

https://bit.ly/3rwE7Jp it’s official

They also killed the ps3/psp/psv web store so if I need to get more SC5 dlc I have to do it on my console...

It's either a sign of the impending apocalypse, or it's confirmation that the Illuminati exist, for Sony to have actually listened to us for once! Lol!
I know right lol either way, i'm happy! i don't even know why they would consider doing something like that tho .

um so...it looks like backlash has made Sony keep the Vita and PS3 stores going! The PSP store is being shut down as planned though
Complaining does work. PS5 1.0 had no way to store PS5 games via an external drive. Last week, PS5 got that feature. Now PS3 & Vita PSN stores won't shut down. Vita indie devs are happy that Vita PSN store isn't closing. Last week some game patches disappeared for games like SCIV & TTT2. Patches for those games have returned.
