Thanks! Although I only used Talim twice. In my first match against Cha Cha (Talim vs X), and then I used her in the grand finals the whole way (Talim vs Yoshi). Both vids should be up soon. :)

Trying to prove she's really not as hopeless as everyone makes her out to be? Awesome. :)
Pfft... she is useless... its just that if you dont know how to play against her, she will rape you. As I said before, its only a mindgame for people who dont know how EASY it is to stop Talim. Watch the WingZero vs OOF matches from NEC9. In the first match OOF played Talim and destroyed WingZero. After that match WingZero thought to himself, "Didn't Jaxel tell me something about how to beat Talim last week?". Then WingZero, with zero anti-Talim practice put what I told him to use and OOF's Talim never one a match again.

All I told WingZero was: Backstep or BB... beats just about 100% of her options; and every character can do it. Whenever Talim goes into any transition, if you do Backstep or BB, it doesn't matter which option Talim chose, you will beat it. The only things that it doesn't work against is Talim's glitch Wind Sault cancel (cause you cant backstep it, but BB still beats it).

Kilik is a bad matchup. So I can understand that.

But OOF just won finals against someone who I must assume has had a good amount of Talim experience at this point. So maybe he knows something that you don't that allows him to still keep the pressure on?

To be honest, the only reason I can think of that BB and backstep would beat all her options would be if you're transitioning out of disadvantage and you're being predictable with your transitions. If they expect the transition and they know how to beat it... how about this? DON'T DO IT. Maybe if you know the BB is coming then you can step and punish it. If they're going to backstep, run up and throw or 66B or something. Then after they stop doing whatever it is that's preventing you from using stance you can use it again.

Well OOF is just that much better than any player I am seeing right now... I mean OOF is leagues better than just about everyone else in top 5 at NEC; so thats why he's been able to use Talim and get away with it. The constant love for SC3 he had is giving him a huge up against everyone else who really didn't pursue real training with the game. In time, as the competition gets stronger, even OOF's Talim wont be able to cut it anymore... the competition in SC4 is really bad; the level of play is rather lacking from what I have seen.

Oh... and the way people play Kilik now, I don't really think its a bad matchup for Talim. I don't see any Kiliks these days playing spacing game. I mean, playing against WingZero and SomethingUnique, I don't feel any "fear" playing against them; I don't feel like "this is totally unfair". However, when I play against NeoOutlaw, who has barely even played SC4, and plays SC2 spacing game; I feel like I have real trouble. Yes, Kilik is an incredibly bad matchup for Talim, if played like SC2... but most of the Kiliks I have seen don't play that way.

Most Kilik players I see have SOLID defense, but they really have no high level play.

I got Talim'ed LOL.
I know how to play against Talim well but Oofmatic's mindgames are just hard to read.
I mean I read Dino's voldo really well after a few matches. We were battling to compete for 3rd, I was down 1 match and 2 rounds but I came back to win after..

Jaxel: I'd say Talim is easy to beat but the player is what's making her better. I think I can safely say that Amaury was not thinking when he was doing those Wind Sault mix-ups, so random. He knows I can read and pick up players style really well. I did fall for a few things but that goes for people who do not play certain characters enough and he has plenty to choose from. I got beat fair and square.

Congrats Oofmatic
Next time you won't be so lucky.

wow

pompous much?

in this and the previous post you made in this thread you knock people who place top 5 at a huge tourney, take partial credit for wingzero beating OOFs talim, say that kilik players nowadays play him wrong(ever think that his spacing tools in two were better and safer than they are now). i just dont get it man.

why so much negativity? please show us the way to this high level play that you constantly feel is lacking. looking at that top 5 i see people who have been beating people for years. JTO and wing have been a force in ATL since SC2. JTO would beat RTD in SC2 on occasion at ATL monthlies.

Honestly Jaxel, I'm humbled that you think so highly of me, but I think it's going a bit too far to say that I'm "leagues better than just about everyone else in top 5 at NEC". I highly doubt that is true.

And I'm sure wing_zero beat my Talim because he is an excellent player, and for all you know the results might have been the same if you hadn't given him anti-Talim advice. At the end of the day the most important skills to have for the game are adaptation and mind-games. That's why it will always be more about the player than the character.

Russell: Why would you think I was random when I fought you? I put a lot of thought into our fights. =\

In other news congrats to MysticBill for getting 2nd place at his tourney mostly with Talim!

I think what Jaxel is saying is fairly straight forward. The game has been out for less than 6 months. In a year, all of the top players will look back on ANY tournaments held up to this point and laugh at the level of play. It happens in all competitive fighting games, but it seems to be a little more prominent in SC4 because (1) SC3 died early, and (2) because online play was introduced in SC4 which automatically puts certain limitations on players who play more online than offline.

Coming from other 3D fighters (mainly Tekken) I think that it's also difficult to really reach that top level of play without a lot of experience in the game. In Tekken I can watch match vids of top Korean players and learn A LOT. But in SC4, I watch match vids and half the time I think the players are average at best (even the top players). IMO videos don't show your true SC4 skill because of the many mind games and setups involved in the game. You really have to play someone to get a feel for their level of skill.

Getting back on topic. Congrats to OOF. I'm picking up Talim as a secondary, so I look forward to more vids since I'm having trouble playing Talim as well as my top tier main character. ^_^

Let me add my congrats to a truly awesome player. No doubt people respect you as one of the elites Oof, and I hope you continue to do welll whether you use Talim or not.

As for the issue of whether the lil' Filipina is worthless or not, aren't we past that argument now? I mean no one willl ever confuse her as being top tier, but she is nowhere near as worthless as some may believe. As with all characters, more and more tactics are figured out to give her versatility in different situations. Even knowledgable opponents have to react when she isn't played generically. To say that one simple defensive strat stops all of her options means that Talim isn't varying her game.... even if one mixup can be shutdown easily, no character can be completely shut down with a couple of moves, Talim included.

With that said, she has big holes that can be exploited by a smart opponent. She also has some bad matchups IMHO that are tricky to deal with. However she does have some good positives which help her stay competitive, especially against certain characters. Her damage output can be really nice, most of her stuns can't be shaked, her throwing game is above average, she evades pretty well and she has good tools to strategically close space. I'm just saying that her skillset isn't all garrbage.

Congrats to you too MysticBill!
