Soulcalibur VI General Roster Speculation Thread

SoulCalibur VI: which 3 characters do you most hope for?

  • A brand new character

  • Amy

  • Cassandra

  • Hilde

  • Hwang/Yunsung and/or Lizardman

  • Rock

  • Setsuka

  • Viola

  • Z.W.E.I.

  • Other: Abyss, Algol, Dampierre, Elysium, Leixia, Li Long, Patroklos, etc.

Results are only viewable after voting.
Salia could/would possibly use Hilde's style without needing Hilde to return, since she has ties to Wolfkrone.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Gisele (along with Alphard and Ludovigo) returning to have Dampierre with context and foils.

Where’s Talim?
I explained my reasoning when I first posted my roster prediction, but here it is again:

I don't think Project Soul will want to add very many little girls to the roster, just because they tend to be unpopular outside of Japan. Tira, Cassandra, Talim and Xianghua can all be (broadly) described as little girls. If one of these characters ends up being cut, I suspect it will be Talim, just because Project Soul seems to adore Cassandra (treating her as the quasi-mascot of the series). And they seem to inexplicably hate Talim.

Of course, if I could choose the roster myself I would pick Talim over Cassandra, but my guess it that Talim will be snubbed again.

The other reason I think we might not get Talim is that, thus far, it seems like Project Soul isn't going to dramatically change any of the character profiles for this "reboot". In terms of storyline everything they've shown suggests a return to the original SC1 timeline, but with the potential to branch off in different directions. In other words, I think Talim is likely to still be 11 years old at the time of SC6. Of course, that doesn't mean she absolutely cannot appear in the game, but it does make it less likely in my mind.
If there is one thing I also hadn't noticed was the lack of a new female. I hope they include someone already within that universe like Salia.
Salia would be great. Giver her a proper long sword style!

Uh, not only was Talim leaked for the game a longass time ago but she placed number fucking one on the popularity poll. She's going to be in the game, dude. And when did they start treating Cassandra as the female mascot? If anything, that's how Sophitia has been treated.

I mean, I hope you're right.

But I'm going to just say that I don't believe that popularity poll. Why you ask? Well, an easy test of popularity would be to go to your search engine of choice and type in "SoulCalibur Ivy" or something like that. Then go to the shopping/product search tab and see what's there. You'll find some figures of Ivy, as well as some cheap t-shirts, mugs, phone cases (etc.) that someone has slapped her image on. You can try this for other popular SC characters and you'll usually get SOMETHING. (Someone's even trying to sell a t-shirt with Lizardman on it. Yes, really.) But if you try it for Talim, you get almost nothing.

Additionally, removing characters from a series tends to artificially boost their popularity. There are lots of great examples of this in Street Fighter. Prior to Street Fighter V, Karin was consistently one of the most-requested characters. Now that she's in the game, she's dropped down to 18th place in the most recent popularity poll. And prior to her joining the cast of SFV, Sakura was voted the number 1 most popular character, even though she hadn't been anywhere near the top during Street Fighter 4. The point is: people want what they can't have. And once they have it, it loses its appeal.

But like I said, I hope Talim makes it. But if she does, I expect she'll still be one of the least-picked characters.

Yeah I never got the idea with the horse and dear heads that apparently Namco is very obsessed with. I mean how could those ever work and why would anyone want to play with their character looking like that is beyond me.
Literally the ONLY beast head I was able to use was the tiger one that looks like a realy weird winter hat. It's debatable if that counts though.
I guess you could have like some historical dog-welder?

Well i see that people are ready for CaS
I mean, it comes without saying, CaS is one of the biggest if not the biggest attraction for this series, it's been like that ever since it was first debuted in 3, the thing is though, if you mean ready for a trailer, then I agree to an extent, because unless CaS went through a huge overhaul, there's no need for it to have a trailer of it's own.

With finally getting more people position placements, here's my thoughts:

Raphael, Tira
Astaroth
Voldo
Talim, Cervantes
CaS, Seong Mi-na, Grøh's Father, Hwang

DLC goes in center hole.

I feel bad about cutting Cassandra, but I just don't see a place for her anymore. Unless she's where Seong Mi-na is and Aeon is where Hwang is. But then I'm sad about no Koreans.

Like the Koreans’ designs and weapons. I mean Kilik is kind of similar but never gets bladed polearms. And Xiang is too girly for a badass cutlass. They do seem plain character-wise and Cassie kind of has the same personality as Mi-Na.

Hmm, now that we have 1 more spot than I originally thought we could potentially get, I'd need to upgrade my predictions:

Safe characters:
Cervantes, Voldo, Astaroth, Talim (I think we can pretty much all agree with that)

Less safe characters:
second newcomer, Tira, third newcomer, Cassandra, Raphael, fourth newcomer (this one is a little bit tough, because these characters could go either way, I do believe that they're all going to be playable, however there might be a small chance one of them won't be)

Unsafe characters:
Seong Mi-na, Lizardman, Yun-seong, Hwang, Edgemaster, Rock, Li Long, Setsuka, Olcadan, Amy/Viola, Hilde, Algol (these are pretty much the characters I think will be cut from the playable roster, I still think every single one of them could appear in the game, just not as a playable/fightable character).

Why would it not be in the bottom left, to mirror random? It would be the same positions as SoulCalibur V.
It doesn't need to be. DLC characters can't just take 1 slot either. I think each individual character's slot will be added to the select screen as they're being added.
