Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

My mom (who works at Bandai Namco) sent me this leak

why would they pick a guest who is not the biggest person from their property?

I mean there should be some degree of consideration given such what is already on the roster. Especially if there are other popular characters to choose. I'm not suggesting the rest of or even half of them should make it.

How does setsuka fit into all this? Mitsurugi hasn’t killed her master yet? I know she is super likely but generally the DLC characters have had storyline cameos or hints

She doesn't I believe. I think scenario wise she'll be much like Talim where its before her main scenario actually occurs and I honestly can't really see the how they'd tie her in meaningfully at this point beyond a backstory.

Perhaps as the DLC progress each character will gain some extra story material.
E.g. Hwang DLC has some Setsuka stuff in his story (not that it will happen like this just an example.)
Or they're just gonna lay them on us outright.

I'm fine either way though, I just want the characters, my jaw is still dropped at the fact we can rest easy knowing season 2 will come for sure.

There's no reason really that her Soul Chronicle can't extend well beyond the timing of Mitsurugi's, perhaps ending with the death of her teacher or perhaps even a little ways into her search circa SCIII's original plot.

I haven't read anything of the last 12 pages, but I'm glad we got Cass, really happy to get S2, but a bit disappointed we're getting yet another guest over the missing vets...
Well, let's look at it this way: Tekken Season 3 has been announced, making it even more clear that--as predicted by some astute observers of the industry and the limitations faced by Namco (like other fighter developer-publishers) in particular in its distribution models (cough it was me cough)--Namco is looking to double down on a serialized format for its fighters, so as to bypass the limitations of the relatively inflexible scaling of the purchase price on the base product, allowing it to create larger games again without being trapped between a rock and a hard place between sky rocketing production costs and the market-limited price point of the core software license.

In other words, Namco has been collecting the market research data from its fans with the first few season passes of T7, DBFZ, and SCVI, and now has real confidence that the time has come to walk its consumers into the future--who up until recently, were still too childishly self-entitled to accept that if we are going to continue to get new games with real scope, we're going to need to purchase them in new ways and for a little more money. All of which is to say, a season 3 is not out of the question. I'm more than happy to see a new guest every season, to help support three returning characters.

But then, I'm not one who has a problem with guests: PS seems to do a very good job of picking characters that translate well into the SC formula and then representing those characters fairly faithfully. It's been a part of the series DNA for some time, and it actually could be an important ingredient in revitalizing the series potential and popularity. Making the series partly a forum through which characters from various different franchises can clash would allow the franchise to take a potentially very useful page from Smash.

Indeed, I would put it to anyone frustrated by the presence of these guests because they "take a spot from SC characters" to contemplate that, as a practical matter going forward, the situation may very well be the opposite: mixing a guest, who pulls in yet more sales via the cross-over market, in to each season will actually help fund the returning classic characters. And the more successful that approach is, the more such seasons we'll see and the larger the rosters of the games will get, albeit with a bit of a pay wall, compared to the base game. I'll happily take four more guests, if each comes with a season of three classic and/or original SC characters, a couple hundred CaS items, a stage or two and a major revamp to the mechanics (which in my opinion, still need work).

All of that said, I have to agree with everyone here whose first thought was "Haohmaru, really? You couldn't find anyone a little more unique from one of SC's mainliners? I mean, I'm sure the combat will vary, but as a narrative and stylistic matter, you can't really find two more generic characters that converge on the same fantasy-historical trope in a more similar fashion than Mistsurugi and Haohmaru do. It's an odd choice, even considering that most of Samurai Showdown characters are either two cartoony to translate into SC well, and/or were also going to be somewhat re-duplicative of Mitsurugi. Personally, I think Shiki's the character who would best translate into SC and bring something new, but I guess she just doesn't represent the same brand representation potential.

I came back from the dead after seeing Cassandra. I didnt like her voice but she looks amazing !

Edit : As for the guest I would rather have someone else from Samurai Showdown.

Just played against Cassandra on arcade mode. they made her THOR or something. her shield charges lighting which she can then release. The CE on the trailer seems to be fully charged shield only because she did an CE on me and she did not throw the shield just did the final move in the trailer.

ugh I love her so much

Some thought:

Finally Cassandra is upon us! Awesome!
And she looks great. I seriously love the design, her face is still perfectly recognizable, but apparently they did apply a couple of slight strategic fixes here and there to make it better, not as pug-like as in SC4. The costume is amazing and I very much appreciate the thiccness!
Time travel references in the trailer are intriging, but I'm not sure there will be any of that stuff in the actual game. Remember Nightmare vs. Raphael showdown in Amy's trailer that never happened in her actual story chapters? So I'll believe it when I see it.
There is a mask at the end of the trailer, it's the same mask Cassandra holds on her character art. It's a Broken Destiny reference. Cassandra used a similar mask there to conceal her identity for a bit, which was a comedic gag, since you can't really conceal anything with a tiny mask like that.
Ha! Hairstyle break confirmed!

Season 2 announcement is great to have!
I don't have an opinion on Haohmaru since I've never played Samurai Shodown, but I'm open to check him out.
So far both SC6 guest characters had rivalries with certain SC mainstays in order to promote collaborations between franchises. Geralt had a rivalry with Mitsurugi that is actually now canon, it was also significant enough to put both characters on the official cover of the game. 2B got a non-canon rivalry with Ivy depicted in 2B's trailer and promotional art. I wonder who is gonna challenge Haohmaru? Mitsurugi would have been an obvious choice, but he has already been used on Geralt... so how about Setsuka? Haohmaru's stage from his teaser did have a strong cherry blossom motive after all which makes me think about Setsuka, also there is one DLC slot right before Haohmaru, so potentially she can get into SC6 right in time for the showdown.
My old Season Pass 2 DLC prediction made long before the 6 characters datamine leak has been: 1). Yun-seong (or Hwang, but most probably Yun-seong), 2). Setsuka, 3). Hilde, 4). Guest. I still stand by it, also Hwang over Yun-seong possibility does look a little bit more probable now than it was in the past.
But as you say, we can now safely dismiss the codenames as absolutely controlling over who will or will not make the cut for the second season pass, or thereafter. Though the likely candidates mostly stay the same. My money is on: Lizardman/Aeon, the last true series stalwart not yet added, who was already developed to a incomplete state in the base game--a headstart on a character that I can't imagine them not capitalizing upon; Hwang, a major player in the early series lore who has already featured in extended story mode content, and utilizing a weapon as yet completely unrepresented in this game; and Setsuka, probably the most popular character from the SE-SCIII arc who has yet to be featured in the game, who furthermore has a play style that brings something truly unique to the roster.
I see you have finally abandoned all hope for Li Long and embraced Setsuka. Smart, but I'm still gonna hold you accountable for our previous friendly wager when those predictions are met Kappa.
IIRC, didn't Tekken 7 S2 show 4 slots around reveal and then added two more? Maybe we're in for that kind of treat too...
Nope.

Now, THIS is what I wanted to wake up to! And I get it today! Perfect :D

Yaaaaaaaa

I wonder if the CaS DLC is just for the characters or if there’s a pack with each release.

I’d have honestly preferred Nakoruru though.

PS: And Ukkesh, why that ugly mofo Lorenz? I thought you had good taste with Beruka...
Why the Lorenz hate T_T
More of a joke though honestly, I prefer Mercedes, Dorothea and Bernie. Don't forget Annette and Claude and like, 80% of the characters. This game is too good.
