Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I am thinking back on the reveal, and I don't think a new character is in the cards.

Why? Because if there was a new character to be revealed, they would have shown them off already. Look at Tekken 7. The first hook of the new pass is that there is a brand new character being added.

But with the SC6 s2 pass the hook is haohmaru. He is the big deal, and they won't upstage up.
That's not a sound idea at all and makes zero sense. They literally only showed off one character, and are keeping the rest a surprise. Keyword: Surprise. You might as well have said 2B wasn't on the cards back then because they didn't show her off the moment they announced the Season Pass.

they basically announced her when the game launched though. (7 days after the game was released she was revealed)

Bruh, I want them to throw Ancient Ogre (alongside Kunimitsu and Ganryu) in Tekken 7 for a long time now but it doesn't look like that's happening. Characters I like tend to be forgotten by Bandai Namco.

But if they do add Ancient Ogre in SoulCalibur then I honestly see his moveset being similar to Necrid, Aeon, or a mix of both where he's a fire breathing Necrid. Of course, they will also give him a lot of the moves he had in Tekken.
If by Ancient Ogre you mean True Ogre, i wasnt quite referring to him. I'd personally prefer they kept the general appearance of standard Ogre which does look like an Aztec. True Ogre transformations i'd keep locked to CE animations or maybe he does partials with several moves similar to what Algol does. I like his helmet and shield a lot, especially with that enormous plume hanging out the back of it.

Not when the Season Pass was announced. That was in August. Even then, what you're saying has no basis in reality and I can't make any sense of it.

But what does have basis is the way Okubo very visibly reacted when asked if there was a newcomer, as the curveball put him in a position where he wasn't sure how to answer. Remember that Tekken 7 made it clear that the S2 pack was all legacies. Not so here, they're being vague.

Please just don't be angry if there isn't a new character revealed. I remember how disappointed you were when Lizardman and Hwang were not the two extra slots.... :sc4roc1:

After all this time, and after getting direct confirmation on multiple occasions, the fact that she's still trying to argue that this isn't a reboot and we're heading to SCV is completely and utterly ridiculous. Furthermore, I don't even get why she keeps arguing in favor of it. What was so great about SCV? Its legacy is that it almost killed the series, and you'll have to forgive me if I'm not buying the whole "people will accept SCV if they explain it better!" crap. They literally just rebuilt the good will between them and the general fanbase. The last thing they should do is break it again.

Most people accepted it was a reboot when Okubo said it was. Even more accepted it was a reboot when Zasalamel's secret chapter flipped the script. Everyone accepted it was a reboot when Cassandra met the original version of herself. Not her.

So yeah, it's worth some memes.

It's obviously something important to Dante and something she simply has a different perspective on. At least she isn't being malicious about it.

It's unbelievable Setsuka is coming in this game, hope she'll have her Soul Chronicles
So far has Project Soul not disappointed us (or at least me) on the content that we got with each character that they added, even tho 2B did not got a Soul Chronicle, we did got some some CAS items and a new stage to make up for it and for Haohmaru im expecting the same treatment as 2B.
If Setsuka is in season 2 (and most likely she will) im sure she will get one as well.

I had a discussion with some anon about this a while back.

Me: It would be great if the next game added a Aztec Warrior.
Anon: But the Aztec and their culture are all dead.
Me: Let the Aztec character be a remnant of his tribe, searching for Soul Edge to take revenge on Spain and reclaim his land from them.

Also I would like him to be burly like the Aztec warrior from that Smite game.

You got me at the motive this character should have to search for Soul Edge 10/10 would support this again.

It's really annoying, tiresome to see all the time, and gets on my nerves the way she presents it as fact. She also ruined my topic on the story thread right off the bat and refused to ever let it go, which is why I'm angry about it.

That, and the sheer idea that they'll return to SCV and break all the established good will by going back to the game that nearly killed the series also makes me mad. If SCV was worth sticking to, they wouldn't have rebooted just to get away from it.

sure as hell cant wait for this highly requested character to make a much deserved comeback in season 2! RiGHt GuYS?!

Any infos if Season 2 characters will have their Soul Chronicles? That would be so amazing if it's the case!!
I would assume that they would, naturally. The only one who hasn't had one so far is 2B, and her trailer makes it clear why she doesn't have one.

I think they probably will. Wish they gave 2B one, don't know why hers is missing.
Because her storyline takes place thousands of years into the future, per her trailer. It wouldn't fit on the screen, and it would be "this world is empty, oh wait... maybe not. Hi Ivy! Are you my mother?! -existential crisis-".

Would you guys be interested in new characters inspired from prehistorical America Aztecs/Incas/Mays Eras?
This could be pretty cool, if they do it right. I'd definitely be on board.

If it was a female character with this concept, I would prefer something that refers to sacrifices and rituals, a sickle would suit her well, they could use Chester's moveset on her.

If is man I preferred a spear & shield, using a club or ax would be practically a new skin for Rock.
Like this would be great ideas. And not just because I really want to see Chester's moveset make a comeback or anything. Spear and shield is something we've been lacking for quite a while too, so if we can't have breadboy doing this, an Aztec/Inca/Maya warrior doing so could also work.

Ogre was a pretty cool character in Tekken, but I'm not sure if I'd want just a straight copy of that, even if it's like Yoshimitsu, in SoulCalibur.

Your first two items are incorrect, even if we exclude SCIII:AE; Hwang and Li Long were both in SCIII:CE. Still, they remain the longest-absent characters on your list, at 3 mainline games each.
They weren't "real" characters in the console edition, they were bonus characters with a pruned moveset. I don't count that. The real deal was when they were added in the Arcade Edition but it was sadly a one shot thing.

Nah, Ancient Ogre is green Ogre. In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, True Ogre was just called Ogre while the green Aztec looking Ogre became known as Ancient Ogre. I just went with the recent naming changes (I'm a Tekken fan and loved Tekken Tag Tournament 2). I just added the fire breathing part just cause it's Ogre lol.

Technically, the game isn't actually supposed to be a different timeline. The tagline for the game was "History hides away more than one truth." It was supposed to be a retelling of the events in SoulCalibur I and II but in a different perspective hence why we can have new characters such as Grøh and Azwel who weren't in the previous games. (Source)

Granted though, they weren't expecting the game to succeed this well. Cassandra was also initially set to be added before Amy according to the datamined list of names and according to Okubo, Season 2 wasn't originally planned so my guess is this:
  • It was initially supposed to be a retelling of SoulCalibur I and II in a different perspective.
  • Because the game sold well, they are looking to make a sequel to the game.
  • To set up a plot for the next game, they decided to delay Cassandra to write a story that would allow them to rewrite history.

I would say that the game isn't initially intended to be a "reboot" but they are going to make it into a reboot where the timeline would diverge in SoulCalibur VII via Cassandra's story in SoulCalibur VI.

It was made very clear right after the game was announced that it was a reboot. Then when the game came out there's some subtle changes, culminating with Zasalamel's secret final chapter confirming it at such. Finally, if there was ever any doubt before, we have Cassandra's chapter making it even more explicitly clear.

I think it's safe to say it was never meant to be a simple retelling.
