Automotive Help

HRD is sooo dreamy!

Ok, so my girl's cousin checked out and said it is the spindle but that something about a bushle or some ish. Either way, how much am I looking at to get it fixed?

hmmmm. I assume he means a bushing. lexus bushings are pretty much dealer parts. i dont think youll find one at autozone or kragens or anything. depending on homedudes mechanic ability, he can prolly replace it for you. i reckon youd have to get the spindle off the car and have the bushing pressed at a shop ( expect at least $40 there). the bushing should be pretty cheap. but its the install thatll cost ya if you cant get homeboy to do it for you.

If you feel up to it. Im curious to know what this "bushing" actually is. If you feel like snapping a few pics and throwen up here, Id like to check it out. Spindles dont TYPICALLY have bushings. But like I was saying before, some european ones do. I guess now japanese ones do

Ahh. They're on my girl's phone actually. Will get them up as soon as I can though. Thanks.

ok so i'm running into a starting issue on my newly restored bronco. :(

basically, the the battery is old and needs replacement, but not thaaaaat bad. it was brand new 5 years ago and never used. i assume all that sitting has killed it, though. that said, when i turn the key on i can hear the puel pumps start up normally. if the battery is low, it will turn over just fine but the fuel pumps shut off and it won't start. once i try turning it over enough that the battery kills and it won't turn anymore, the fuel pumps start working again! is it normal for the battery to have enough juice to turn over the engine, but not run the fuel pumps or vice versa? i'm terrified that it is clogged injectors and the pumps aren't getting enough power to overcome them.

blaaaaargh. i guess i'll just try a new battery and see if that fixes the issue clean.

do not belittle my efforts to make things difficult and save $75.

another thing about the truck which concerns me is this:

if i run it for a while, the engine doesn't really get too hot. it runs fine and the temp guage stays pretty accurate (at least i think/hope)

yet, when i touch the hood of the truck it is fucking HOT. not like 'burn me' hot, but hot enough that i can't hold my hand on it very long. is that normal? i can't figure out what could be transferring that sort of heat, of if it is normal for those trucks to just have hot ass hoods.

I wouldnt say its abnormal. Most hoods have like a fiberglass insulation type thing on the underside of the hood. That keeps the heat off the hood and thus not destroying your paint. That type of insulation shit usually deteriorates and dissapears after quite a few years.

Not dangerous or anything. But could fuck up that paint your worked so hard to fix

welp...new battery, same problem. for a while it would start, idle really low and i'd have to throttle it a couple times and then it would level out and run fine. then it just wouldn't start and i'd have to spray some brake cleaner into the air intake...yeah i know, i know, but it is what i have handy...and it would start up and run fine. now even that won't work. i'll start it, it will run for like one or two seconds and then die. if i frantically pump the gas i can sustain it at like 400 RPMs lol. strange thing is that if i just chill for 15 or 20 minutes it will usually start right up, idle a little low, and run fine again. this shit is REALLY starting to aggravate me. tonight i guess i'll replace the fuel filter and go from there. :/

Thats a good place to start. I know some of those have dual gas tanks. and theres a fuel selector valve that can get clogged up as well. If you do have the dual tanks Id look into that as well.

I would try changing the filter. And remember what happened with your vette. as far as hard to keep it idling type thing. Turned out it was a vacuum leak? Id try to look for that as well. Take some carb cleaner (or brake cleaner) and see if you can dilberatly change the idle. Spray around the intake manifold gasket area. The carb cleaner will make the idle go higher as to where the brake cleaner should make it go lower. Which didnt make sense why you could spray BRAKE cleaner in the intake hose to get it to start. Typically it doesnt work like that.

Anyone who has a '02-'07 Lancer (all models) with a leaking A/C vent be prepared to replace your blower motor or the resistor.

Design is backasswards, I tell you.

I'm just gonna rant here about how for some reason the vent tube is not behind a panel under the glovebox, but rather the motor itself is, and it would take a hell of a lot of work to get the tube. Took the car to my once-trusted car place to get the vent unclogged and cleaned out since it would have been a bitch of a job to do myself. They got water all over my gorram motor and wanted me to pay them for parts and labor to replace it.

Did it myself. Screw you guys!

Just finished my motor for my 55 buick, and Im so proud I thought Id show it off.

it starts as a 454 chevy that has a 6.385 length rod and a stroked crank of 4.250. Which bumps up the cubic inches to a whopping 540 cid!! the compression ratio (which is the basic foundation of any high performance motor) is....*drum roll please* 275lbs which equates to 13.5:1.....holy mamma!!!

running a 312/514 cam with a 106 lobe sepration which will give it the "barely idling" lumpy sound to it. I expect to make bout 600 fuckin horsepower!!! thats just with the engine itself. The horse power will only climb when I start adding intake manifolds, headers, demon carburator etc. I havent decided on the specifics of the bolt on shit yet, but it will be NASTY AS FUCK!!!

I still have a long way to go. Ive been working on getting the body in order. Got lots of rust and shit in the trunk and quarter panels and tryin to replace sheet metal throughout the car. Im shaving the door handles so it will open with the remote on my key chain.

Next comes the suspension. It will be lowerd 2.5 inches all the way around and tucking 18 inch rims. Going 24 wide in the back and some pizza cutters in the front.

I still gotta get a tranny figured out along with proper rear end gear ratio.

But the motor looks sick as fuck!! Im excited as hell!!

on another really good note that Im excited about:

the short story version.....My high school auto shop teacher was a huge role model to me. He pretty much steered me in the right direction at my young age and took me under his wing and showed that life doesnt have to be full of hate and greed.

So 20 years has past since then and I have been trying for the last 10 to be a high school auto shop teacher. Well....I finally got my foot in the door teaching night classes at a local high school. Its for an adult program called ROP (some of yall mught know what that is). Its pretty low paying (almost volunteer type shit) but it gets my foot in the door to get into high school auto shop teaching. Im pretty excited. Ive been wanting to do this for years!! Now I finally got my chance!! Unfortunatly these days teachers period (much less auto shop teachers) dont make a whole lot of money. But Ive always wanted to make a difference in some yougsters life like someone did for me when I was young, dumb, and reckless.

Funny part is, my real last name is Carr. Kinda fitting huh? "good morning class" "good morning Mr Carr." I love it!!

First off David Carr? Lol! The most beat up quarterback in history. 2nd, 4.250? You know you stroke your crank a whole lot more than that. 3rd, good luck on that teacher stuff bruh. I believe they are waaay underpaid so I commend you in wanting to go that route.

uuuuggghhh....You know how many times a week I hear "David Carr, Should you be getting ur ass handed to you in a game right now?" My reply is.....yeah thats not me funny guy. My name is Dave. You call me David again and Im shove my ratchet throught your forehead.

2nd....You perverted fuck, thats how far my crank goes up and down.....wait....thats not helping....LOL

3rd. For years Ive been practicing lessons in class. Ima not be a total dick, Ima demand some respect and give it return. I aint trying to be your best buddy either. Your gonna come to my class and learn. You aint fuckin around!!

Thanks man. This is like the first step in a goal Ive been trying to reach for fuckin ever!! Im really happe bout it!!

The engine looks cleaner than my kitchen table!

Ya, if you like teachin do it cause you love it (re not for the 'money').

PS
Don't blow that engine (and I mean it in every way, haha).

No. The heater and the AC system are 2 totally different things. All the harmful gases have already escaped out of your car. So theres no danger there.

The issue is "benign" so I wouldnt worry bout anything getting any worse.
Potential necro, but I have an update.

Finally went in to have the AC fixed. Turns out my power steering thinggie had gotten bent and punched a hole in the condenser unit. (The power steering itself wasn't really damaged though. It's not leaking fluid etc. Just got bent up.) Also my a bolt on my exhaust system rusted through so I've been apparently been huffing emissions under my driver's seat for a while now.

LOL....I remember that now. By all means this thread has no necro limit to it.

But yeah, that sounds bout right. Your condensor is located in front of the radiator and is the first thing to break when you hit a small child, or coyote or whatever it was.

Watch out for run-away coyotes I guess huh?

Pretty much. I was going 50 at the time, it was completely dark, and I only knew something was there when I saw a tan blur pop up about a foot in front of my left headlight.

Just glad they noticed the exhaust issue too. Not happy at the thought of breathing carbon monoxide fumes every time I got in the car. (Might explain my month long headache tho.)
