I can't play every FG that gets on the market. At the current my limit is 2, Tekken and SC. If I had a better computer I would probably drop T6 for starcraft2. The only reason to picky any fighter IMO is to work your way to tournament level. Playing FGs like a FPS is a waste of time, they take too much of your time to get down. Playing more of them just for fun is not worth the time.

Spectating is what I do mostly. Since I stopped watching TV, watching competive gaming is the my new ESPN.

There are people out there who play their FPS's the same way you play your fighting games and would probably take umbrage with the idea of those being just for fun. With that in mind I hope you're tolerant at least of other points of view. I personally think it's a little sad if you're playing a game and not having fun in some fashion but man I understand what you mean about them taking up too much of your time and I can understand not playing them all seriously. Speaking of which I dunno what the problem would be with playing every game a little while only being serious about a couple. Then again I never had a problem with not being the best, so long as I'm not the worst.

Anyhow, it's hard to judge a game by watching matches alone. I tend to find for instance that watching matches for games is more exciting when I've played that game a bit and have an understanding of the principles and rules involved (like any sport, really). If you never played SC IV how exciting would it be that "that little circle thingy" is flashing red when both players have "2 little red rectangles" next to their names in a 3 out of 5 match and one player has been forced into a 50/50? You wouldn't even know that 50/50 is coming. That's like watching a baseball game and not knowing what the difference between a ball and a strike is. No wonder you're bored.

I like to play all fighting games, but I feel like, if I really enjoy a game and play it a lot, that I may as well at least try to understand and be decent at that game.

Other than that, I'm fast becoming fond of Genghis's posts.

If I feel a game has competitive value for me- I'll make an effort to learn it, at least until the effort required is greater then what I'll gain. (VF, Tekken, KOF98)

The real problem is I know I won't be hitting tournies anymore- my life doesn't allow it, that kinda kills the drive. I like to win though, if the game doesn't make learning to win a complete chore.

If it doesn't, like Marvel, I'll just herp derp it.

Ghengis is right. If you don't have an understanding of at least the fundamentals of a specific FG, then you have no solid basis to make inferences from watching matches. Also if you really can't have any fun learning specific FGs and feel they aren't worth playing unless it's totally serious and with hours upon hours of devotion, then I'm sincerely sorry. Money is one thing, but not being able to devote just a couple of hours to get the basics down and be able to play is another.

I guess I'm the only one who liked killer instinct. I grew up playing MK, MKII, SFII, Tekken and SC. I played the first VF and was not very impressed with it when it was in the arcade. Soul Calibur has pretty much ruined all the 2-d fighters for me.

KI on SNES was my first fighting game. I can't wait for KI3, but I think there might be licensing issues between Microsoft and Nintendo.

No, I loved Killer Instinct. C-C-C-Combo Breaker all day, dawgy...

I'm still praying it's not just a rumor Rare is making a Killer Instinct for 360.

World Heroes was such a fun game. A SF2 ripoff, but still fun as hell to play with friends on a Saturday night when rented from the local movie/game store (before blockbuster came around).

For one thing unlike GG, AH3 and MB aren't dead and getting people who seriously play it to come out isn't nigh-impossible. Well, MB is pretty dead in the US but whatever :V
Secondly BB is pretty fucking garbage and that won't likely change.
Third, it's a different game.

AH is more or less pretty close to what I feel is an ideal fighting game. Low execution requirements (for the most part), encourages creativity, fast, hella deep and most importantly, fun. A lot of the things I like about SC really.

I would say GG is probably the better game in terms of sheer competitive value. However, AH is simply more fun to play. (For me anyway.)

AH is definitely better than BB though. Which should make sense since the series has been around longer. And while I feel BB still has plenty of potential to grow, I would argue that as of now, any iteration of AH is better than any iteration of BB.
