DEVASTATION 2010 - SC4, T6, SSF4, Halo 3 and more!

or you could get blackmamba i heard he has this really good tactic were he tells you to look at something then he does a suprise attack.

The main thing I'm trying to do is have fun and hype up this tournament, but I'm putting somebody out though. So get ready.

The descriptions of vicious ive gotten from noface make him sound like a god. Noface said he runs you to a edge so he can do a 1K 66K RO mixup and if you try to stop his run he GI's you on reaction then keeps running. Along with other tactics ive heard he sounds like he would be really troublesome if he makes it.

DEVASTATION Countdown: Two Months Out!

Hey guys - just a friendly reminder that DEVASTATION is now only two months out...

It is scary how fast the last two months have flown by and I imagine that the next two will move by even faster. So, while we get our stuff wrapped up, you should as well. Better to get all your stuff taken care of now than waiting until the last minute.

We drafted a little something up to help you guys get prepared.

A checklist post for everyone thinking about attending this year: http://www.devastationevent.com/2010/04/18/two-month-countdown-and-checklist

I've been practicing constantly for this. Hopefully i'll actually be able to GO, haha. Strangely, i'm not too worried about the Dualshock 3 being a problem, even though Baba, Dragon, and Noface/Babareciever seem to despise it. I'm more worried about losing my cool and making stupid mistakes due to my lack of tournament nerves.

Ok so I'm noticing for the first time that in all that information listed up there that they don't mention that it costs you FIFTY fucking dollars to enter one damn tournament. If I would have known that I damn near wouldn't have shown up but my stupid ass already bought a plane ticket so I guess I'm stuck. Plus, someone mentioned this but I forgot, the SC4 tournament is on FRIDAY at 10am. I think it was so that they could get SC4 out of the way and to be able to stream the matches....but still sucks for me because my flight won't land in Phoenix until Friday 11:40am. If they don't start it later then I might not even enter the tournament, but I'll still use the weekend to see old friends and get casuals in. I won't mind not having to pay $50, just seems too excessive. Even EVO, which is the biggest fighting game tournament in North America, doesn't cost that much to enter for one game.

NOOOOOOO Krayzie! I hope they start the tournament a little later...10AM is ridiculous.

And $50 is very high, especially considering the total amount of prizes is what, $600?

what the fuck? 10 am on friday? thats not cool. 50 seems excesive as well.

$50 is high, but EVO is $40. I wish I would have took advantage of the pre-reg for DEV when the entry fee was cheaper, but I had no idea I was coming out until not that long ago. Plus I am sure EVO can keep their entry fee and tournament fee cheaper by $5 because it's the largest open tournament in the world. Economics yo.

If you want to compare this to GAMME, entry fee for GAMME is $36.86 which is $1.86 more than DEV until it goes up in May, so if you enter that tournament, you'll be paying $46.86. And that extra $5 for the tourney entry fee for this tournament is going to the pot for Calibur itself, so meh. If that $5 wasn't going to the pot, then you would be looking at $45. Either way, you are going to be spending money unless you stay home and miss out on the fun.

If Devastation was at some hotel ballroom and not a convention center, then I would be like WTF at the price, but I can't complain about $10 which I am sure to waste on either food, alcohol, women, and or asshole money matches. And when I read through the aftermath of last year's tournament, outside of Hilde bs, everyone had a great time.

And to give you guys some more math, the hotel rooms are $79 which is $10-20 cheaper than what I normally see and much cheaper than the $149 I would spend at EVO if I was actually going there. When I go somewhere, I look at what I would be spending entirely and not focus on one or two things. And you guys should be coming through with a couple of people to split costs. So if you can afford it and trying to come, hurry up and register before the entry fee goes up another $10.

I'm looking at the schedule and it says the first event is scheduled for 10AM and not SC4 specifically starting at 10AM.

http://www.devastationevent.com/schedule/

Plus the schedule is still tentative and subject to change. But let's make sure that SC4 doesn't start at 10AM because I arrive in Phoenix at 10AM. I can't hype up a tournament that has started without me. Plus we want people to be able to watch the tournament from the internet.

Certainly money is a factor, but if I was going to play a game and enter tournaments for the money, I would be playing nothing but Street Fighter since more people play that game than any other fighter, it gets more sponsorship since more people come out to tournaments to play it, so mathematically, it makes more sense. Or better yet, take that money and play the lottery since only a couple of people actually get paid if the payout is 70/20/10.

I play Soul Calibur 4 because I love the game and the community for it is 10x better than the ones for any other fighter. If I just played Street Fighter, I would only matter if I placed in top 5 and probably be called a pot monster if I didn't since it's the thing to do these days. Plus where else are you going to travel to for Calibur besides the East coast, Toronto and Texas? So if you love Calibur and can make it, bring yo ass.

Other than that, I'm hyped as fuck for Devastation. I also should be doing colored commentary with Bibulus. Hope to see you there.

Malice: Sure we all love the game, that's why we're on the forum and willing to travel to play in tournaments. But I have never paid $50 to enter a tournament, that's all. Evo is $40 and like you and I pointed out already is the biggest fighting game tournament so that's to be expected. $50 will be the most I've ever paid to enter a tournament so I WILL expect this thing to be on the level of Evo as far as equipment and organization, etc. The Friday tourney date already has me kind of bummed out because I'm so used to being able to fly in Friday and chill with the peeps that are housing and meet up with other players who are arriving and get casuals. Instead, I'll have to fly in and immediately get to the tourney location and scramble to get some casuals before I play in the tourney, and that's assuming they start later than 10am, if they start on time then I'm screwed. Those 2 things are fucking with my 'hype mode' for Devastation, so pardon me for not being so excited right now.

EDIT: Krayzie, I talked to IceColdEdge and he said it's pretty close to the level of Evo. It will cost me 65 cause I am entering T6 also. For everything available, that's not bad. I thought it was $50, PLUS each tournament fee lol. For all you are getting, it's acceptable. I'll be there.

ewwwwwwwww

Idk if i wanna come to this now. It's already a tough time to get off of work, but on a friday? Why can't all the shooters be on Fri, and all the FG's be on saturday? I mean it would make more sense...wouldn't it?

and also the price, i understand it's a Major, but DAMN MAN.....F'N $35 VENUE FEE????

is there like a Daily pass that i can pay?

(gotta be as cheap as possible...kids man...they gotta eat too lol)

Just spoke to the TO. He's going to get w/his team to see if he can MAYBE move Dev to Sat at 10am. I made my case and if they have the time and room, we have sat at 10am, but it's not 100% yet. He should be making a post soon.

All I have to say is, THANK YOU NORI!!! Hopefully they can get it moved to Saturday. I don't mind the early start Saturday, just as long as I have Friday as chill/casual time.
