All they had to do was explain how repeated Prisoner's Dilemma games work. I'm really surprised there was absolutely no mention of PD, it really would make the point easy to explain. I guess this method guarantees that anyone would understand it.

Big wtf on the "always play nice until someone plays nasty in life" philosophy ... not all situations in life are analogous to PD. There's also "game of chicken" and "battle of the sexes"
