Getting Used To Things.

Allow me to hop in here guys - There is a way to make Astaroth's throw game even scarier:
If you press 63214 fastest possible input and input your throw simultaneously - Astaroth will flash as though he used a just frame move. This seems hard at first, BUT it increases the power of your A+G throw AND makes the window to grapple break much smaller - if you master this, Astaroth's throw game becomes nothing short of terrifying. It really is worth the practice =)

Not totally certain its true but from personal experience, I think that Asta's just command throws are unbreakable. I say that because when Im playing and not attacking, I break A-grab CONSTANTLY. Even if Im on the other side of the map lol. And even if I am standing there mashing it, 63214 A+G justed will go right through it. I cant say for sure about his B+G because I switch to B-break when I see grabs. That way I have a chance at breaking both. But Im almost certain his just command throws are unbreakable, or Im just slow lol.

If your experience is solely from playing online, Command Throws can seem unbreakable. Consider that your average connection has 7-10 frames of lag; and given that the break window of a normal throw is 15 frames + the frames you have to see the throw animation (17) a normal throw you have 32 frames to attempt a break; Asta command throws have more like 8 frames of break window, which means 25 frames of opportunity; minus the 7-10 from lag.

Well I understand the play lag has in it but Im breaking it BEFORE the grab comes out O.o Do I have to break it within the window without making up for lag?

Short answer: Yes.

Lag really does fuck up the game THAT badly.

Edit: Try programming Asta to do it in practice mode, and you will be able to break it. Practice mode = no lag.

Yeah I know how big a difference it makes :/ Well thats lame since he can get free just grabs on me but O well. Well thanks for letting me know he isnt THAT overpowered lol

Welcome to the forum. Where are you located? You may have a community of people to play that's nearby.

I never knew lag had such an effect on the game. Are some Tournaments played online? Or Locally?

There are some tournaments online, but no online tournament is considered "legit". Most tournaments take place offline.

This late in the life of the game, most of the tournament action in SC4 happens at "Majors" which are multi-regional gatherings of players. The nearest tournament to you would be Summer Jam in Philadelphia in August, and there are people coming to that from Canada, New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Northern California, as well as individuals from a ton of other places. The infrequent amount of tournaments means the quality of competition is the very finest. Nothing levels you up like going to a tournament, just go, don't be shy and play ALOT over the weekend and it's better than 10,000 hours of online or practice mode.

As for online, in the first info post I posted, I linked to some threads trying to help detail the pitfalls of online. Many people have played only online, and sadly, don't realize the huge difference affects everything about the game. I hope you won't end up as one of those people who see's online as anything more than a learning tool and a way to have some fun; it's not meant for serious play.

Edit: Also players from France and Mexico :)

Oh trust me i wont. And would 236B+K then 28B+G be an effective combo? Ive found when charged to the fullest the opponent's HP is pretty much depleted.

If you can somehow hit someone with 236B+K, then yes. On the other hand, your never going to hit a skilled player with 236B+K.

Fully Charged, xD Most Likely. Im in practice mode atm practicing Asta combos. So im just experimenting i should say.

That's what practice mode is for, tinker around, discover things, experiment. That's half the fun of learning the game!

I mess around a little with everyone, but in tournament I play Cassandra, Mitsurugi and Astaroth. I also know how to play Rock at a high level, but he's a very weak tournament character so I keep him for casuals only.

That's a common belief, but it isn't true. The details make all the difference in the world. Just like Sophitia and Cassandra don't really play alike, neither do Amy and Raphael, Sigfriend and Nightmare, or any of the other "Clone" characters. While they may possess similar animations, or even similar weapons, their effective tactics, frame data, combo's and such are wildly different from one another once you look just beneath the surface.

I see. Lol. You know when i picked up SC 2 years ago, i never knew there was so much detail and data to the game.
It takes alot more to play efficiently. But it makes it fun!
