So they are treating their first next gen fighter (in which they bothered to do note worthy sprite upgrades with hand-drawn HD 2D sprites) as a throw away game? Where is the logic in that business decision. Does SNK like going bankrupt?
I suppose 2002UM was their saving grace if XII bombs?
Well I don't think this was planned. Originally 2002UM was supposed to be console only, as if they released it along with 12, 12 would get zero play as 2002 is the most popular KoF version in japan, and as it turns out 02UM is one of the best KoF games period
but to my knowledge, so far the response to 12 in japan has been pretty so so anyways(at least on 2chan). They already released it too late to make SBO, and if interest in a new game lowers over time, likely 12 wouldn't keep a crowd long enough to make next year's either.
So instead of having two new releases getting no play(12 because its boring, and 02UM because it's console), it seems like they're bringing 02UM to arcades since 12 tanked on its own anyways. And a game like 02UM will probably end up not only making it to SBO next year, but being a regular at the annual orient tournaments(DuelingTheKOF) like 98UM.
Most of this is speculation on my part but that's what the facts seem to be pointing to.
They spent about a billion times longer working on KOF XII than KOF 2k2 UM I'll tell you that much.
Yeah but at the end of the day, the game just doesn't look like alot of fun imo. At least in comparison to previous KoFs
For me at least, alot of the characters have lost what made them fun and hype in previous games. While 2002UM only added more to them and balanced a game fans already have loved for years.
I think KoF was just the wrong series to give this kind of overhaul to. I think the game would have been received alot better if it was Garou 2 or something.
Americans seem to like the game alot though(Like garou) so it'll probably have a larger scene in the US than any KoF before it if that's any consolation.
