Namco Reveals Nightmare, Raphael and Leixia!

Okay, so technically, we all knew these characters were coming... Nightmare was leaked by Daishi several months ago on his Twitter, Leixia was soft-announced at this year's EVO, and Raphael was pseudo-revealed through some clever detective work dealing with the resumés of musicians.

I myself got a chance to play these characters and more at the closed-door press conference earlier in the week and I will give some short impressions about them, and the game in general tomorrow. There are many more announcements coming during the next few weeks, so keep paying attention!

Well he's been dead for a while. He might not still be a vampire...although he does seem to still have a bat fetish.

Because Raphael isn't technically a vampire, despite sharing traits of them. He's just suffering from malefestation as a result of wounds he suffered from Soul Edge.

ok, so he 's not a vampire but for his critical finish he bit you? im confused now. . .

 

Some incredible vampire he would be, since he can fight in the rain AND in broad daylight!

Holy shit, that hat guy was Raphael after all! Definitely caught me off guard though I think they did well with this new design, the noble costume would probably have gotten old. What's annoying me again is that he doesn't seem to have aged either, it's starting to get disappointing. This also confirms that the lines on the characters select screen are not specific to either new or old characters.
Leixia looks pretty, she surely will be worthy as her mother's replacement.
As for Nightmare, he/she looks badass, so does the Soul Edge but it's definitely a human host we have this time. Looks like the Sophiemare theorists might be right after all (not really glad about it ;_;).

EDIT: Oh Nightmare was confirmed to be male. Good riddance Sophiemare :D

 

Raphael looks great! He reminds me of a witch hunter with that outfit. All he needs is a flintlock pistol :3

Nightmare still looks bad ass and a little more armored than normal.

Leixia looks very cute. Wonder if she will still be high tier. lol

 

If Raph is there, you know Kilik will be there to foil his plans. Unless Raph isn't evil any more.

Well at the end of the day, im glad that more characters are returning, but STILL waiting for Cervantes...

 

Even though Nightmare is clearly not Sophitia now, I gotta say, this is my favorite design for him. I'm glad he kept his SCIII-IV style too. I'm surprised that Raph turned out to be what I thought was a new character. Oh well, I like Raph so I'm not complaining. Even though I never cared about Xiangua much, Lexia's design is alright. I'm also digging the new stages too. Especially the forest and Chinese stages. SOOOOOOOOOO PURDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.....

I also wanted to say that I like how Leixia actually looks like an anime-ish Asian, unlike all the Asian characters in SC4 who had the same eyes as the other nationalities. Examples here:

I hope they stay that way because the first characters that were created in SC5 so far still "suffers" again from the "same, rehash eyeshape" syndrome, which wasn't present as much in past generation SCs.

Oh and from this angle, Nightmare's SE really looks like a giant pizza slice.

^Same here, for the reasons I've already written. I'd rather see a "new being" if Sophitia was host, which she probably is (of the short sword Soul Edge if it's not the same one as this).

What told you that, the fact that 90 percent of his/her body is covered in metal, or the fact that there is no other logical explanation for who else would be the host?

 

Forest stage, better than Distant Marsh. It even has a little owl you just wanna destroy when you lose.

 

wait weren't there a lot of people that were speculatin' about how NM's eyes look feminine? (Still don't know how eyes are feminine). well now I'm just waiting for Cassandra, Setsuka, and Talim to get in there.

 

Now that Nightmare has been revealed, and the "Sophie-Mare" debate is over [or should be because that Nightmare's a guy any way you look at him], lets move on to the next topic at hand:

Who the hell is this!? What's up with its right arm, legs, and head? Also, is tjat another sword hilt on its back?

 

What Raphael is wearing is a capotain. Not every capotain ever made was the same, and you'd be foolish to think otherwise. If you're gonna get pretentious over small details, make sure those small details are correct. :D

BUT, while we're nitpicking, Raphael's hat shouldn't have a buckle on it, because capotains never did. They were more likely to have plumes, or bands or what have you. Also, since he's trying to be incognito, why the hell is he still wearing his crest?

Ah thank you sir for knowing what that hat is called (a capotian). Although you do show his 3d model is clearly wearing a capotian, the concept art clearly indicates that the 3d model is incorrect. It is very clear from the art that the hat was intended to look more like the style of a flat cavalier hat (whether that is also called a capotian I do not know, however that is irrelevant). Point being that the model's hat is incorrect, does not fit the outfit's intention, and should undergo the changes I mentioned earlier. After all his hat is one of the most defining characteristics of the new outfit.

But regardless thank you for pointing out the "capotian" clarification, I will remember that.
