NEC XII SC4 Full Results & Aftermath

The final major tournament for Soulcalibur IV is now in the books here at NEC XII in Philadelphia, PA. Competitors from across North America and Europe participated in one of the toughest tournaments that I have seen during the life of this game, along with those who came to try out the demo build of Soulcalibur V.

I would like to thank everyone who came through to NEC, to the European players for flying over to compete, to the staff who helped keep things going, and to Namco Bandai for their support of NEC XII. Everyone had a hand in making NEC an amazing success.

Sp1der! I totally asked around for you, because I had no idea what you looked like. D: But I'm glad you showed up too. I wish we would've hung out, but alas, next time.

This event was a lot of fun, even if I didn't play SCIV. I did, however, get to play a bit of SCV, and see some familiar faces of all my lovely 8wrunners. I will post up some type of props whenever.. I'm not so tired. lol But you all know I love you, and I definitely look forward to actually competing in SCV.

You know this stuff is archived right? You should be able to watch it when you get home.

Four Loko is the worst. I don't know who still drinks that mess besides Chicago.

Also Lolo beat Scud 5-1 in casuals. I wish I had more updates but I had to make 8 million trips to Popeyes for people because they don't know the area and don't want to get lost in the city.
Lol, I must agree Four Loko is as what the latter word suggests,"crazy".lol I swear that stuff is like liquid crack in a can. One can of that is the equivalent of a night at the bar.lol If you're up for getting hammered for as cheap as possible, and able to take a sledge hammer to the chest then drink away......

I was asking about you too but last i heard you hadn't shown up. Damn ah well... I blame partisan

USA beating France and the "invincible" SCUD was pretty fun to watch. What happened to NA being free and EU/France being the best? Maybe this will stop everyone who isn't part of the scene from automatically assuming France = Calibur.
Yes, USA beating France had impeccable timing. Maybe NA can now be looked at as the a**-kickers we are. The deafening silence during every match was as calming as childbirth. I'm glad we won, cause I was told pre-NEC that France is viewed as the " Calibur Hierarchy". And if SCUD was know to be "invisible", then Lolo did a reverse invisibility spell on that a**.lol

Lols, calm down Malice. I felt France did pretty well, too. DAT SIEGFRIED!!! >=D

Although...I certainly didnt see anyone use Mitsu =(.
YES D*MMNIT, THAT SIEGFRIED WAS THE TRUTH!!!! I got to play him late Friday night when we got there, and had no clue who he was until the next day.lol

Well this was good times, glad to see Namco supporting SC, though honestly SC5 kind of killed all the SC4 hype I was hoping to see. I think I was probably the only person there that wished SC5 wasnt there. But oh well I still had a good time.

Shout outs to..

Canada, it was nice staying with you guys eh

LP, excellent color commentary during all matches "Get the fuck up!"

France, good to see you guys make it, team battle could of went either way.

And oh yeah....

GOOD GAMES

But to make it up to you guys, I made sure to stream as much SC5 as possible; we have over 10 hours of streaming video from SC5!.

:D. Thank You, Jaxel. Much, much appreciated.

watched a lot of the stream Saturday morning/afternoon. Was a lil heartbroken to hear yoshi say, Maxi is getting a nerf.

Judging by the videos...Looks like I have some catching up to do. And some Soul Arenas to spy in on.

Hey guys on team NA/team Europe. I'm really sorry to have to inform you of this, but according to the respected and distinguished opinions of online nobodies posting on Soul Calibur's facebook page in response to this match, you are all really unimpressive and scrubby. You mostly just use the same moves over and over, just spamming them.

If you were good, you'd use more than just a few moves, but I guess you all just never learned how....

Good thing those guys never come to tournaments; or else they might beat us with their proven skills that we all fear and know.

GOOD GAMES
Yeah, SCV was kinda being an attention hog.lol I was really trying my darndest to split my time between both; gathering as much mechanical knowledge about SCV I can, and also give much support to my fellow SCIV players in the tournament, who were kicking a** and taking names. Although you wish SCV wasn't there, you didn't enjoy getting your hands dirty in V at all?lol

first of all, the stream was great. good quality and good shit for what i watched.

that said, i have to ask, because i work as a chef and this time of year is my busiest, and is where i cater big corporate holiday parties and make my $$$ for like half of the year...so attending the event was 100% not an option for me...

i tried to watch the stream, and while it was high quality, it was tekken 6 CASUALS while the sc4 tournament was going on for over an hour!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

pleeeeeeeease tell me that the singles tournament was recorded.

also, i don't know if i'm the only one who feels this way, but i really don't care about sc5 footage since it isn't out yet and i can't play it myself. once it comes out i will study it. people getting to play it is awesome, but i don't want to watch that. i want to watch people play the game that i already know and understand, and that people traveled across the damn world to play and find the absolute best at.

basically, i'm wondering, if it was a bandwidth issue, why you couldn't just 4g it or something? i'm pretty sure my phone has faster internet than pretty much any hotel, and i'm pretty sure that i'm not the only one with rooted 4G tethering. that said, i wish emphasis was placed on the huge international event for sc4, and not on tekken 6 casuals or sc5 "lets try shit out for the first time" streaming.

pantocrator...malek...scud...kira...all these amazing players were here! they were playing our own! why wasn't that absolutely #1 streaming priority? i feel like i missed the super bowl because instead of airing it, NBC decided to show a preview of madden 2k13.

yeah, the stream was good. yeah, it was cool to watch some people play sc5, but i was on a very limited schedule and there was no SC4 to be seen! that is what i cared most about.

i think i speak for more than just myself when i say that SC4 singles was, to me, the most important event of NEC this year, and even the 8WR stream failed to show it. sure, we got top 4 (which was awesome), but what about the rest? for the time that i had to watch the stream, i was stuck watching nameless people play tekken 6, for over 2 hours, and eventually switching to spooky's stream to watch mk9, while sc4 singles went on...and i was relying on NDK's 2 sentence updates to know what was happening. the whole time i was watching mk9 and tekken casuals i KNEW what was going on in the sc4 world and i KNEW i was missing it and it drove me insane.

this is 8WR. this is a soul god damn calibur site. this is a soul calibur community and NEC was probably the single biggest international soul calibur event since the cannes WGC 2k10, and we (the viewers) missed it.. why did we not prioritize that for the 8WR stream? i don't really buy the bandwidth issue because, like i said, pretty much any 4g device can power a streaming PC nowadays.

i suppose i'm just bitter and pissed off because i wanted to see more europeans vs americans in sc4 on our stream and instead i got scrubby tekken 6 casuals. i guess next year i'll just have to show up myself so i can take part and stop bitching.

^This - NEC stream was such a load of shit for people wanting to watch the SOUL CALIBUR IV TOURNAMENT which we were all fucking hyped for. Overall, pissed right off. ~_~
(Especially in Europe - staying up till 1AM to watch Tekken matches followed by KoF - wtf was that shit.
The closest it got to soul was when DK played Tekken for crying out loud.)

Congrats to everyone! I watched Top 4 and the team battle and enjoyed it! Especially the team battle was so intense! Pantocrator!!!! SC5 matches were nice to watch, too, but I expected waaaaaaay more SC4 to be seen.
Sounds like everyone had a great time and maybe some German players will come to the US for SC5 in the next couple of years.

However, as many others obviously, I was kinda disappointed with the schedule that was actually non-existing and the fact that we had to watch KOF while in the background I could see people playing SC4 and SC5...I hope a lot of matches from the singles got recorded. And another "bad" thing for me was that matches that were settled to 1am (in Germany) were shown like 3 hours later.

Did anyone actually read the schedule that Jaxel posted before NEC? There wasn't going to be that much SC4 streamed to begin with. Plus what is Jaxel is supposed to do when the problems with KOF occurred? Fuck over the sponsors who put $1000 to the pot and not stream it? Sure.

I'm also not expecting that to be an issue again because there will be less games that will need to be streamed, and the issues with online registration are ironed out.

Also, the issues with bandwidth are not bullshit, so expect to see more than just SC being streamed going forward by Jaxel. Or actually come to the event, bring your iPhone, and stream the tournament yourself.

It sucks that people didn't get to see the SC4 tournament. Told yo ass to be here.

Exactly. To those bitching about lack of SC4, I'm sorry, and yeah, it sucks, but there was nothing that could be done. The event coordination was largely out of our hands, and Jaxel had obligations to sponsors. If you want to be mad, fine, be mad, but be mad at the sloppy event coordination, not at Jaxel or the Soul Calibur community. He did everything he could.

Yeah, it's sad, there were tons of amazing fights, no doubt this tournament had the highest level of all.
Man, still happy about this, I just wish I could see more matches.
