NEC XII SC4 Full Results & Aftermath

The final major tournament for Soulcalibur IV is now in the books here at NEC XII in Philadelphia, PA. Competitors from across North America and Europe participated in one of the toughest tournaments that I have seen during the life of this game, along with those who came to try out the demo build of Soulcalibur V.

I would like to thank everyone who came through to NEC, to the European players for flying over to compete, to the staff who helped keep things going, and to Namco Bandai for their support of NEC XII. Everyone had a hand in making NEC an amazing success.

Yea there were several I didnt get to meet :( I met, chacha, page, thuggish, oof, mick, jaxel, krit, kit, RTD, kowtow, greatone, Malek, landslide, sporko, typhoon, Lolo, Furzy, keef, and Eli! I just forgot everyone was going to be there and was in another tourney while SCIV was going on! There will be a next time promise!

it was nice finally putting a face to the name reddjinn, i remember playing you online quite a bit ago.

Also LP- where was the Lizard love? I think I may have been the only LM in the SC4 tourney, reppin with mad gimmicks as seemingly everyone forgot how to punish his stance :)

The weekend was fantastic. A great way to end SC4. It was great seeing everyone again, and meeting Daishi-san and Utoh-san.

My only complaint is the random tourney. I thought the point of it was to prevent people from creating over powered teams, yet having it random creates OP teams like lolo+dk. Not to mention it delayed the singles.. again.

Anyways for SC5 at next year's NEC, I say we do oldschool vs newschool again, but with a twist. It should be oldschool players + oldschool characters vs newschool players with newschool characters.

Team Oldschool will be anyone who made a name for themselves in SC2-4 and uses a character in SCV that appeared in those games (Mits, Raph, Ivy, Cerv, etc). Oldschool players who use characters that made their debut in SCV will not be allowed on the team.

Team Newschool will be any new players who will make a name for themselves in SCV and use new characters (Natsu, Zwei, Viola, Leixia, Pyrrah, etc.). New players who use veteran characters will not be on the team.

I think from Jan 31st until NEC XIII next December will be plenty of time for new players to make names for themselves. I wanna see this happen. :)

 

That's dumb. In practice, there are only 3 new characters in SC5: Ezio, ZWEI, Viola.

The other new characters are just replacements for old ones. Any old school player knows Natsu = Taki, Leixia = Xianghua, etc, etc. Limiting old school players to only using veteran characters means only 10 choices for them, when it should be at least 16 by the current roster we know of.

 

Hell nah, Aeon ain't an old school character by your logic. Aeon, Pyrrah, and Pat should all technically be new school. And it doesn't sound right to call Ceirnian old school if he were to show up with Hilde when he only became known in SC4.

I guess my point is, you can only define veteran players, not characters, without making a mess of this. Actually you could also define veteran characters, but then including Hilde in it just looks silly. It's basically saying, anything even slightly prior to SC5 is old school. People will probably laugh.

I believe Aeon is lizardman from III AND IV. So, technically, he's old school.

I agree; I suppose we'll just have to wait for a confirmation, if we get one.

And personally, I like the idea, Oofmatic. and I will be attending NEC next. However, I think it should just be kept to Old school VS New School. Regardless of the characters chosen. Makes it simplier.

 

Xeph - The reason I suggested old vs new characters as well is purely for novelty. And because old school vs new school seems to be a major theme in SCV.
