Let's be honest. Supernatural fighting time is about as over done as mecca in anime. You're just so negative because you perceived it as stealing deserved popularity from something you liked. By the time bleach came along though Yu Yu Hakusho was all wrapped up, people had moved on and Yu Yu wasn't going to maintain popularity for 20 years like a DBZ, it would have been unrealistic to expect that. I'm not going to get upset because the kids aren't nuts about Outlaw Star or Iria anymore.
I've heard that Bleach recently "copied" an Arc from Yu yu Hakusho.

Recently watched a bunch of anime, all of them I enjoyed a lot.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
Sora no Otoshimono
Kore wa Zombie desuka?
ore no imouto ga konna ni kawaii wake ga nai
Baka to test

All of these were awesome and I have no complaints about any of them. ( nor do I care about anyone else's complaints about them )

I think its sad that some people actually think that Naruto/DBZ is the end-all- be all show for them. When they die, they leave the anime community.. Not enough people (especially shounen jump fanboys) don't like to explore the entire medium. There are many shows people can watch that are a differnt form of storytelling all on its own, perhaps there are shows you may like MORE then Naruto or DBZ. I've found mine, Deadman Wonderland is still my favourite series right now, but the anime is too short.

I've recently "finished" Oreimo and actually think the story is pretty deep, and commend it for exploring a realistic issue thats not based on overpowered kids with magical powers they cant control. It deals with The prejudice of people towards otaku as it is in japan. Parents not liking a hobby they can't understand and friends who just can't accept that it's your thing. Its interesting because it can happen to anyone, but the impact these choices have on how the characters deal with them is what made it interesting to watch.

Personally I can't wait for Naruto and Bleach to end so other shows can be exposed.. wether or not they're good shows is up in the air. One piece is still strong but I never got into Toriko... Gintama is better, and IS shonen jump. (I think)

Hate to sound like a biased jerk, but not everyone is the same as you. While I do agree peeps that are into Shonen stuff like Bleach and all that, I really can't say that all is bad. Personally, I would like Bleach more if there wasn't so much filler arcs and more to the point. But the series was milked for more $$$ and I just became tired of arcs that catered to this same cycle:

Ichigo is introduced. Ichigo pwns. Ichigo and company meets an adversary that forces him to struggle. Ichigo and company find the solution and go beast mode to win. Repeat except with some other filler arc.

That aside, not many people such as I want to explore anime. So I just go on rumors, suggestions, or actually dig for anime to watch(if I'm not lazy).

My favorite genres tend to be the cliche CAR(Comedy Action Romance), but I'll watch anything if it manages to impress me enough. Basically, I will try some stuff out to see if I like it despite popularity.

Or you can be the other side of the spectrum like me and watch LITERALLY everything start to finish no matter how good or bad it is.

I mean Bleach anime is ending and gets a HOLLYWOOD live action movie for it, gonna be awesome?
Naruto has been ass since ShiTPOOden began, again i only talk anime not manga.
One Piece is still arguably the best anime still airing for going on as long as it has and literally only getting better as we go, that's hard to do man. This is filler and everything.

But who cares about those action shows? I tell you who did. Satoshi Kon. Satoshi (creator/director of anime like Paprika, Paranoia Agent and Perfect Blue) said, before he died, that if the Big Three, aka Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, ended than the anime and more so the manga industry would be dead in 10-20 years.
He later went on to say by big three he meant One Piece and the two stragglers, which i laughed at.

So these shows are important to exist, sort of like how SF4 is important in reviving the fighting game genre, and it's only better if the show is good like ONE PIECE

But hey i like any kind of show man, but it still has to be good. And at least 2 of those shows listed by Acefrost had some things that can easily be negative about them.

Also did i mention

On another note i just marathoned a good chunk of Amagami SS, and that shit is good. More shows should go the omnibus route, even more so if they can do it half as well as Amagami does it.

What was that? Watch the original 90 HxH too? I agree.

I like Amagami. This anime actually kept me satisfied imho. The only nitpick I will pout about, is that one of my favorite heroines Kaoru, has a rather meh arc. That aside, the male lead is actually fun.

YES!!! AMAGAMI SS FOREVER!! This is one of the few animes I will forever appreciate, I had to buy the whole album, every single OP, ED, drama vocals...EVERYTHING!!

Other than that my regulars are Fairytail, Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream (HOORAY FOR A SEASON 2!!).

Also can't wait for Medaka Box to start airing in april.

How would you know that if they aren't on regular TV. Naruto's only popular because of when it came to America and it being mainstream. Its doesn't exactly that deep of a plot compared to other shows consiering thats what it's credited for.

Naruto is shonen which can be slightly edited and can appeal to young peeps. Just like DBZ and other shonen, it's meant for all ages. And imho, you can't beat out that.

Shonen is like Pokemon. It never stops and will always keep going. And quite frankly, why should it stop if fans are the source of their $$$. Hell, Pokemon is basically my shonen thing because the simple "Gotta catch them all" still runs deep within my veins haha.

Certain anime that we personally like over it may or may not cater to peeps who just prefer the same shonen build. While some aren't popular, I like to say they're popular with me because I like it and not because everyone else's opinion. Pardon my post.

Another anime which is awesome and have no complaints about maji de watashi ni koi shinasai.
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH the mediocrity of your shows is blowing my mind.

@Yoshi, you understand that Naruto, Bleach and the Almighty One Piece isn't going simply because of money right? It's a story that they created and designed to last long, it didn't keep going because they got money from it.
Pokemon, Digimon, and YuGiOh are all different than that because they start as merchandise and then become a show, and the show will go as long as the toyline exists and/or is a basis for the next set of toys to hit the market.

COMPLETELY different things.

AMAGAMI is amazing, and my only complaint is that because of it's style you start to miss the previous characters interactions with the main guy. Those characters continue to show up and be funny but it's just not as funny as with what they did with Junichi.
But the way that's being fixed is that the show keeps going. Amagami got the 2nd season and it's MORE from each arc thus quelling that thirst you had. And since it's not just based on a manga but numerous manga, many of which still being published, it could go on for some time. I LIKE

I want you to compare the ticket sales for George Lucas films and Wes Anderson films. Yes there's a market out there for Wes, just like there is for Oreimo or Goodbye Mr Despair. But let's face it, it's always going to be a niche market. There is a clear-cut formula to blockbuster success that is as old as time, I refer you to the work of Joseph Campbell and his book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces:
http://moongadget.com/origins/myth.html
Campbell argued that the stories that persist and resonate with people across time or cultural borders usually shared common elements, because these comply to the universal image of a "hero". Compare the steps and elements of the hero's journey as found on the referenced page to those found in Bleach or DBZ, it's easy to do if you're familiar enough.

This man is following the formula.

This man... maybe not so much.

Even if the two-fisted explosion filled tales of good versus evil and hero gets the girl that are around now suddenly stopped production, new ones would emerge because those are just the stories that the majority of people want to see. It's why the end of Dragon Ball brought us three count em three of the same types of new stories at the top of the heap and still more of the same stories continue to spawn. I'm not assuming anything, the entire history of human literature is on my side.

That's not to say that less popular shows are bad, or don't have important things to say, nor to say that they can't entertain or make you think or feel. But they will never be the darlings of the masses in the way that fighting hero tales are. Your whole problem is that you think those kinds of shows are holding your favorites back from their deserved place in the limelight. I don't think that limelight could ever be theirs though. A guy like Satou for instance is just going to be harder for the average person to identify with or root for. Kids can't watch his show at all and old people probably won't care about his exploits. His show is battling both subject matter and demographic concerns. You yourself said it, Naruto is mainstream. How could you expect something without mainstream appeal to ever become mainstream?

Fair enough, just a heads up, I am setting you as an ignored member so there is no need to reply to my posts any more.

Another great was Skip beat that I just finished.
Moving on to School days now.
Oh but im gonna. Good or bad.

@Genghis Do you find japan to kind of be a distortion in that thought though? I mean Haruhi Suzumiya became mainstream and one of the highest watched, rated, and purchased shows there. It became a phenomenon that took over the country, let alone it's fairly popular overseas as well. But it's definitely not the conventional hero tale that is so huge.
It was big enough to cause problems for traffic, subways and police officers. Not to mention the fans through bricks through Kyo-Ani's windows for giving us the Endless Eight.

Oh my god. People and their mainstream media. No one don't know about that texhnolyze or haibane renmei or gilgamesh. Just got done watching Mai-hime. Really good. Really good.

For the most part i've given up on anime since now a' days its seems to be either completely inappropriate fan service, over-the-top non-stop action with a paper thin plot or those that are far to bloody/violent/gory for my taste, or of course all of the above and then some.

But finally found an anime that completely changes the game and it really reminds you that emotions are real and should be felt every now and then. to be honest didn't think it could get better then Code Geass, Darker Than Black, Tri-Gun, FMA: Brotherhood and Trinity Blood, but...
