I'll just share a little background on how I got hooked into anime...

I was watching Shenrei's setsuka wavedash tutorial, the music that was playing in the video appealed to me so much, I found in the comments it was from an anime called "Chobits" OST: Let me be with you by Round Table and Nino, now I only followed that anime because of that intro song alone...

However the plot did get interesting, as well as the occasional wild and mild fanservice, after finishing the series I searched for 'related' anime. That's how I discovered the term 'ecchi' and all sorts...Kiss x sis, ladies x butlers, Queens blade, Omamori Himari, Nyankoi, Yosuga No Sora, Hyakka Ryoran Samura Girls, too many to name, all from different years of airing, they were the ones I enjoyed during their time of release

So I rinsed most of all the ecchi, fanservice 12/24/ova episode seasons/series, I couldn't stop myself. I took a back seat and decided to watch an ongoing series, which happened to be Fairytail, it had only aired around 8 or so episodes, so I could follow it up every week, it has such a lovely collection of soundtracks, OP and EDs that I've converted to listening to J-POP anime tunes over a period of time.

As for older anime's, especially ones that were dubbed, Haruhi suzumiya, Sailor moon, Negima, Love Hina Gurren lagann, Tenjo Tenge, ikki toussed, Card Captor Sakura, man...I appreciate them, I have yet to finish them but it makes me question myself as to why I didn't discover them sooner and follow them religiously either by youtube or stream whilst my school days were young and free...

Anime is also partly the reason I buy lots of manga volumes from my store, if the series is well known, has been adapted in an anime I know of or is rare, or just appeals to me one way or another, I'll buy it.

There's so much I want to watch, yet there is more stuff I need to put first. Then there's the spring season anime to come....

I can't speak for other people, but Haibane Renmei is one of my top 10 favorite anime :)

So...you think Fairy Tail is amazing despite having most of the things you supposedly hate about modern anime and manga in it?

Lol not to mention Fairy Tail is just One Piece light. They're so similar Toei tried to sue once, but Oda was like WTF? It's my property and i says let it go.

Either way Fairy Tail is awesome indeed.

Haibane Renmei is straight up amazing. I remember when i went on my anime buying streak, and when i had a job, and it was literally the first series in my rightstuf bin, as well as like 20 others.

Hilariously enough Mai-Hime was one of the others. I love Mai-Hime, i like it better than Mai-Otome, but i still like the universes and style behind em both. Good shit to Sunrise as always making anime awesome.

@AZYG4LYFE i understand the need to watch everything lol, my other forum name is iwatch2muchanime and it's not just a name but a way of life.....

*snip of a nice ramble*

Pocky Yoshi likes you. My story on how I got into anime is similar to yours, but he'll save it for another time haha.

Speaking of Another, I think I should download that anime since I've nothing but good things about it.....despite it being horror....*cringes*

Nothing's scarier than a 12 year old girl with an eyepatch.

You're such a snob Vince. You know it is possible to like a bit of everything. I gotta commend Ace on having the right attitude.
Oh I'm just teasin'!
For the most part i've given up on anime since now a' days its seems to be either completely inappropriate fan service, over-the-top non-stop action with a paper thin plot or those that are far to bloody/violent/gory for my taste, or of course all of the above and then some.

But finally found an anime that completely changes the game and it really reminds you that emotions are real and should be felt every now and then. to be honest didn't think it could get better then Code Geass, Darker Than Black, Tri-Gun, FMA: Brotherhood and Trinity Blood, but...

Fairy Tail

I'm sorry but it seems like you were giving up on anime cause you weren't looking good enough. The really good anime out there won't come up and introduce itself to you. You have to look for it. All the ones you mentiond you liked are all mainstream anime. They're good but the is anime out there that completely takes the cake IMO. It's just a matter of looking and asking. I used YouTube for a reference to find any comedy anime and it pointed me to one of my favorite English dubbed anime, school rumble.

Yowch, must you be so hard on a man's biased opinion on what anime suits him? I mean, some peeps really don't see things the way you do. Good anime is merely but a personal taste like music, my friend.

Like I know you dig Maaya Sakamoto just as I. =D

I agree with a lot this. I never would have known about amazing stuff like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Kaiba, Gunbuster, Casshern Sins, or Haibane Renmei and more if I didn't look around and ask about good anime. This applies especially to manga because if I hadn't really looked, I would have NEVER found a lot of my favorites.

However, that's not to say that "mainstream" anime can't be great as well. Cowboy Bebop, Madoka Magica, all Miyazaki films, and Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex are all examples of really popular anime that are still great.

You do understand that his post was in no way negative or demeaning and your reply was insulting and stupid right?

He was straight up saying in a normal way that if his description of anime is what he thinks it all is, than he actually hasn't been looking hard enough.

The same way you tell someone who isn't into anime that it's either not all for kids or all hentai.

*shrugs* online makes things anonymous on tone. I can't say much here except my apologies on the misunderstanding. It's in my nature to simply be a blunt white knight. But if the person vincentrayne is addressing doesn't take his advice, then chances are he doesn't give a care and why should he?

For instance, when I try anime suggestions from other peeps I don't know personally, I tend to have an attitude like, "it better not suck" not because I have better taste than them, but because I'm pretty much.....how should say it? Letting them "doormat on me" with their suggestions. However if I end up liking it, then chances are I would look to them for more suggestions. Basically, I'm a very adamant yet inquisitive fool and want to be proved wrong if I wanted to get suggestions.

Otherwise when I'm not feeling lazy and idiotic to say the same thing as Leshain(love him no homo lol), I'd actually look around just like vincentrayne says. I've heard rumors Puella Magi Madoka Magica and other stuff has been regarded as great anime and I would dig into them, but just not now when other anime take my attention.

Pardon my rude post.

But that really wasn't what was going on there.

He wasn't suggesting shows as much as saying that if he believes all anime is just like some, than he's wrong. Which he is. There's no such generalization for any form of media, nobody should ever think that.

If he doesn't care about finding anime outside of his generalization nor intends to watch it than that's HIS fault and doesn't really have a true reason to complain other than to himself.

Damn anyone know where I can get some decent Eroge? Mega upload being down is pretty troublesome.
Also has anyone seen Mirai Nikki?
Is it worth watching?
(except animefreak)

Haha i told you im going to answer no matter what and to get over it. It's the internet, if you don't like others words than why are you on here?

ANYWAY Mirai Nikki is Good. Has some decent twists in there and is fairly dark.

Also do you not torrent things? I say go to hongfire, which no longer has it's own download or torrent section, however has a lot of release info and where you CAN get it.

Pretty much how I am haha. I'm not into looking a lot for anime. So in a way I'm like my buddy Leshain on how I can operate. But if Leshain denies it, Pocky Yoshi will pout yet will be thankful for being honest.

That aside, I do agree we're on the same page: "There's no such generalization for any form of media, nobody should ever think that"

True words have never been spoken imho. Now, to think of an anime to watch......*ponders*

I wasn't saying that mainstream anime is bad. I agree and love GITS:SAC trigun cowboy bebop. I'm just saying that if you only pay attention to the anime that's one television then there's a lot that is going to be overlooked unless you have anime network. Gunslinger girl is a show I loved because I randomly picked up the vol. 1 DVD to try out an anime. Yes it's a risk but it's either hit or miss and I find the experience more enjoyable if I do like it. I do the same with music on occasion. I take a risk with getting a random album. So far I've only gotten a couple put of many CDs that I didn't like.

All in all I like being that person that tells someone of a anime they haven't heard of and getting them into it too. I like standing out from the crowd. Back when everyone was crazy for DBZ I was an outlaw star and tenchi muyo fan. That was in elementary school and I have the same mindset. If someone suggest me an anime I'll give it 2 to 3 episodes and then I'll decide if I like or if I get on my friend for wasting my time(just kidding XD).

For examples friend knows I love azumanga daioh. He suggested a new anime to me called ichigo something or other. Can't remember the name but I watched a clip from the first episode and instantly fell in love with it. (I'm a sucker for school slice of life comedies). Stull need to watch it though.
